  2. Ed The Spread - "The Bauhaus Movement" (7:13)
  3. Grant Nelson - "Move Close" (4:47)
  4. Rocket Dubz - "Dirty Bath" (5:09)
Review: You should know by now that Plastik People is the go-to spot for the most upfront garage house done in a classic style, and they're spelling it out good and proper with The Sound Of Garage House. Marc Cotterell leads the way with the jazzy vibes and deliciously liquid chords of "Those Days" before Ed The Spread brings a nagging shuffle and sharp string stabs to hard-stepping bumper "The Bauhaus Movement". Grant Nelson keeps things tuff with the natty piano hooks and diva slices of "Move Close" while Rocket Dubz ups the funk to 11 for hands in the air party starter "Dirty Bath".

  1. Felipe Gordon - "Rio" (6:12)
  2. Freudenthaler - "Bel Air" (6:25)
  3. G. Markus - "Cherchez Le G" (6:58)
  4. Reece Johnson - "Montreux" (5:48)
Review: Sheffield's Moment Cinetique has laid down a distinctive MO within the deep house field, favouring dusty, sample-heavy rollers from a close circle of artists. On this various artists release they call on friends new and old, leading in with Felipe Gordon's rolling and tumbling "Rio" which is as crooked as it is funky. Label mainstay Freudenthaler has some choice jazz licks strapped to an irresistible beat and wandering bassline on "Bel Air", while G. Markus channels a touch of Moodymann vibes on the looped up, feverish "Cherchez Le G". Reece Johnson takes things smooth and smoky on the top end of "Montreux", but flips it with a gritty kick drum to lend the track some rugged weight for the dance.

  6. Lu York - "C'mon & Dance" (7:35)
  7. Chris Fry - "Can't Stop" (6:08)
  8. Andy Buchan - "Eighty Four" (6:06)
Review: 124 Recordings are always a safe bet for true school deep house business, and they're also dab hands at putting together killer compilations as evidenced with the "Levels EP" last year. They're back at it again with this crucial double pack, which kicks off in fine style with bright and bold vocal bumper "She's On Fire" (feat Francois A)" by Ortella. There's a deeper, trippier vibe to Chocky's "Lower Synth", while Rotty's "Secrets" chops the samples up and ramps the swing up to 11. Heat Alliance has a tough, freaky NYC touch on "Got The Groove," while Reece Johnson piles the organs on heavy on "I Like The Way You", and that's just half the set. A whole lot of house goodness to chew on, with every track purpose built for maximum dancefloor damage.

  1. Out There (7:15)
  2. What Is Love (8:13)
Review: German artist Ben Rau has been amassing a fine back catalogue on two of his own labels, Inkal and Meta, since first debut on Fuse in 2011. Seth Troxler and The Black Madonna have been dropping plenty of his material in recent times and this firmly club focused new 12" is another useful weapon. "Out There" in particular is a big house track with propulsive drum programming and busy bass that will get large crowds bumping. "What Is Love" on the flip is a deeper but driving cut with spaced out pads that will be perfect for later in the night when things get more cosmic and introspective.

Review: Following up a great release by Wyndom Earl earlier this year and a couple of wicked ones by label boss Arsy, the ever reliable Hamburg stalwart Christopher Rau (Smallville/Money $ex) presents the next installment for Berlin-based Rixdorf Jams - serving up material that's much more ferocious and upfront than we've ever heard from him. From the hard hitting subterranean electro-bass of "Lapidem", to the hypnotic tribal techno banger "MTP" and the mesmerising B side cut "Drei Und Zwanzig Karl Heinz", this is exactly the type of utlra-deep mood music you have come to know and love from Rau.

  1. I Don't Dance I Make Money Moves (6:03)
  2. 4AM (6:23)
Review: Little known fact: the coloured kiss marks on Puss' white label releases are made by "real live humans". Or at least that's what label bosses Kornel Kovacs and HNNY say. That's pretty much the only information about this release, which appears to have been made by producers with the initials "RD" and "KF". "I Don't Dance I Make Money Moves" places Cardi B's hip-hop/R&B vocal over a warm and melodious backing track that sits somewhere between snappy electro and Balearic deep house. It's summery as hell and twice as hot! "4AM" on the other hand is sludgy, sleazy and percussive, with Afro-house style rhythms and chunky bass underpinning jaunty steel pan melodies. In other words, it's a tasty tropical house workout.

  1. It'll All Be Over (3:55)

  3. It'll All Be Over (DJ Koze remix) (5:03)
Review: British producer Gerry Read returns with some roughed-up soul/disco workouts on this new one for Pampa, all reinterpreted via his idiosyncratic, lo-fi style. We're loving infectious, dusty opener "It'll All Be Over" with its sweet soul vocal samples, jazzy guitar licks, blocky Rhodes chords. That's not all, label chief DJ Koze contributes another misty-eyed disco-house remix on the flip, careful not to deviate too much from the original, but injecting it with just the right amount of dancefloor dynamics. We're also loving Read's second cut, "Satyricon", with its intoxicating and hypnotic melody, driven by a deep mid-tempo groove peppered with sultry Spanish phrases.

  1. The Path (6:24)
  2. The Path (remix) (6:17)
  3. 319 (6:51)
  4. Give Me Insanity (5:30)
Review: New York techno mainstay Reade Truth has skirted around widespread recognition with a long-standing commitment to underground techno approaches recognised by those that know as some of the best in the business. This release sees him dust down the first release on his label Path, 20 years after it originally did the business. It's high time tracks like "The Path" that get a fresh airing - the dynamic, detailed approach to drum programming and warm acid undulations sound as relevant now as they did back then. "319" is a more reflective jam that heads into emotive, moody territory that highlights the breadth in Truth's sound, before "Give Me Insanity" round things up by taking it super-deep thanks to expansive pad sweeps and shimmering hats aplenty.

Review: Cartulis bounce from the essential release from Eliaz to this intriguing slab by Reade Truth, a New York techno original who was last spotted on Warm Fiction, Blkmarket Music and Path Records. His "Wires, Everywhere" album was a big release for Cartulis last year, and now he's back with further ruff n' tuff cuts that drip with Big Apple attitude. From the deep diving "Starflight" to the epic, ranging "Space Out (Expression)", you can sense Truth's hard earned swagger but it's also balanced out by subtlety, a sense of space and groove that makes each track a pleasure to sink into.

Review: Italian producer Reekee is back on his Wrong Notes label with another assured take on the soulful house template, which leads in with the bugged-out funk of "Another Day." Erik Rico's vocals sound on-point for this track, pushing Reekee's production into the stratosphere. "Tell Me Something" keeps the vibe resolutely deep, while "Feel Good" shuffles through a heads down club workout of the highest caliber. You'd be forgiven for thinking this record was landing on a label like Kai Alce's NDATL. Patrice Scott lends his masterful touch to "Another Day", edging the track into a different plain of emotional expression without losing the focus of Rico's vocal.

Review: Let's get one thing straight: Ravanelli Disco Club is exquisitely named. The output has proven just as tasty, too, and with Eben Rees at the buttons of this latest EP, you'll want to tuck in once more. He serves up a brace of breezy disco house tunes: opener "Bongo Boulevard" is a funk licked and perfectly carefree sort of tune you'd drop at sundown to hint at the fun to come, while "Dyfal Donc" gets more upbeat with an eco system of cosmic leads and pads dancing above well swung drums. Freerange man Jimpster provides a remix laden with wet claps and funk riffs, and Tech Support's rugged disco arps will make any floor take flight.

Review: Munich duo Rhode & Brown have been bringing the good stuff to Toy Tonics for some time now, and they're sounding especially vibrant on this new joint. "Nine To Shine" is a sweet and soulful, 90s flavoured deep house jam with catchy vocals and a bittersweet mood to help you throw off the baggage of the working life once the weekend rolls around. "Honeymoon Affair" piles on uplifting piano chords and smooth acid bass for a full-fat house burner, while "Sumthin" chops up some serious funk samples for a massive dose of feel-good. "Your Beauty Is A Spoiler" completes the set with a wistful mood centered on an impeccably edited soul hook, making this a house 12" with plenty of mileage for a multitude of situations.

Review: It feels like this reissue on the mighty Vibraphone has been a long time coming. While the Italian deep house bastion seemed to be focusing more on contemporary releases, they kept this gem from their back catalogue in their back pocket and now its time has come. Ricardo's "High Flyer" is a stone-cold deep house stunner, whichever version you plump for. The swooning pads and sweet organ lines are great on the original version, but for us the "Angel Mix" pips it with the edges smoothed out for a pure escapist strain of deep house truly sent from the heavens.

Review: NDATL's latest release is something of an all-star affair, with the brainchild of blind Cape Verdean keyboardist Ricky Corey being joined by a studio collective that included producer Kai Alce and lead vocalist Anthony Pearson (AKA Chicago house legend Chez Damier). On "Who Do You Love?" the assembled cast gives us their version of Bernard Wright's synth-soul classic, re-imagining it as a shuffling chunk of gentle Afro-house/'80s boogie fusion. Remixes come from Blaze man Josh Milan, who first offers up a squelchier, warmer and richer boogie-house interpretation (the "Honeycomb Mix") and a slightly heavier Dub mix rich in D-Train style kaleidoscopic synth solos that segues straight into a loose and groovy Instrumental take. While technically two tracks, it plays straight through as one wonderful 17-minute workout.

Review: Representing Californian house music culture with its heart on its sleeve, 12 Inches Deep return for a second volume of "West Coast Dance Traxx" that features four up and comers from the underground. Ricky Tinez captures a perfect hazy summer mood on the dub mix of "That Day" - a true product of his environment. Akumen brings a sweatier vibe to "Inner Life (All Of Music)" which captures a little Chi-town pressure and then blows it wide open with some choice organ licks. Le Smoove is on a serious garage tip with "G Groovez" and Urbanite reaches skywards with the utterly infectious "Triple Filtered", spilling good vibes out from every angle.

Review: Rimarkable, The first signing to boss man Waajeed's DIRT TECH RECK label based in Detroit. Presents her stunning debut with the single, "I'm in Trouble", over eight minutes of planetary prayer from Purgatory. Produced, mixed and arranged by Waajeed, this elaborate dance floor offering is a marriage between deep Afro House and Detroit Techno, with potent and memorable vocals by Rimarkable.
As a seasoned DJ in New York for the last decade, Rimarkable is clear this track will be welcomed on dance floors worldwide. "This song was produced and performed from a DJs perspective," she says. "It will take the dancers to a place of possession, and allows space for the DJ to officiate and build a bridge to wherever they'd like to go next. It's definitely something to keep in your crate of arsenals."

Taking his bow on Voyage, we hear McPike venture into deep and introspective territory on the "Circling Architecture", featuring tracks such as "Engineered Ruins" with its intergalactic broken beat hypnotism reminiscent of Peacefrog's seminal back catalogue, the emotive "Decompression" coated with the aesthetic of Aphex Twin, and the slo-mo techno of closer "The Edgelands" which crosses into a deep and introspective territory that would work as well on the dancefloor as it would in the armchair.

Review: Welcome to the small-but-perfectly-formed vaults of Italian early house imprint Antima's cult "Riviera Traxx" series. Almost all released between '91 - '93 (although there was one last outing in '97) the tracks by the collective capture the crystalline essence of original deep house. Post-Italo, pre-piano, these uncut Italian house gems have been curated by Mona Musique bossman Nick V for a forthcoming mix compilation. For now, we're treated to the sampler where the concrete chugs of the '97-released of "I Have Got It" set the jacking pace before "Tribal Love" whisks us away on a magic carpet made of pads, before the dreamy organs of Subway Ground Master's only ever single "Queensway" bring us back to terra firma... and leave us wanting more. Bring on the full collection.
