Review: Some serious peak time weapons for the main room on offer here, from the ever reliable Swedish label Drumcode. Usual heroes of the label such as Luigi Madonna, Sam Paganini and Joseph Capriati step aside for some other equally reliable staples. On the A, side label boss Adam Beyer teams up with Enrico Sangiuliano on the evocative and life affirming "Preset Heaven" which takes its cues from early trance with its amazing chord progression. It is something more typical of the label next, on the pummelling warehouse stomp of "Muzik" by Bulgaria's Timmo. On the flip, there's more trance nostalgia on offer again - this time from legends Pig & Dan on the hypnotic/melodic bliss of "La Bruja" which we could imagine melting the minds of festival crowds well into the new year. Finally they save the best for last with French peak time specialist Julian Jeweil, serving up the furious, tunneling and strobe-lit ultraviolence of "Nasa" which will have your adrenaline going from the first beat. It has been a stellar year for the powerhouse label, with great releases by Moby, Dubfire and newcomer Layton Giordani.

Review: On this latest drop on EPM, the steadfast UK techno label welcomes steadfast UK techno titan Mark Broom for a collaboration with Australian in Berlin Patrik Carrera. The result is four slices of no-nonsense jackhammers from two experts in the field, leading in with the edgy loops and bludgeoning kicks of 'Kos' and neatly stepping over to the shoulder-shaking pressure of 'ZZZZ'. 'Track 4' features one of those deadly chord stabs which just lands squarely between the eyes, while 'F9' rides the cymbals mercilessly and keeps an abundance of funk in the low end - pure dancefloor dynamite in action from two well-versed detonators.

Review: Monstrously glassy, yet heavy hard techno cuttage from the French RAW crew, who welcome four stunning audio fragments from various artists in their orbit. It's the seventh release in the Gemstones series, which is in turn inspired by different types of precious stones. Opener 'Neo Tokyo Vision' is an exciting and cutting tittilator, with massive rave stabs and a nigh-perfect balance of weight and highs, evoking the feeling of freely trawling the city at night with reckless abandon. Things grow grungier from thereon, with the likes of 'Black Mesa' and 'Burned Out' hearing the EP grow increasingly soily, subterranean.

Review: The Sound Migration label takes another trip back in to the CATT articles to explore the proto-trance and early bleep techno sound they were pushing from 1988-1991. Another five essential gems from the modestly sized catalogue get an airing here, kicking off with Confidential's haunting 'Amphibious Carbine' followed by the boxy pressure of Exocet's 'Nitrogen'. This is astounding stuff throughout, not least the freak-zone trip of Holy Ghost's 'Walking On Air', which sounds like the common denominator between Ibiza and Goa in their nascent days as party destinations. Don't sleep on the clattering funk of Exocet's 'Overdose' either, a seriously snappy groover with all kinds of oddball sampling going on.

Review: Aussie duo Echo Inspectors join forces with yet two more cretive forces of nature, Subset and Prince Morella, to deliver 'Youthman' - in the artist and label's words - a "slung dubbed out, rootz laiden steppa". The dub influence rings as clear as a translucent glass bell that's just been peeled off the blowpipe; the track's vocalist, Morella, has already worked with Lee Perry, King Tubby and Scientist, so this is certainly a collaboration for those willing to follow the threads of dub as a lineage into dub techno. The original is slow and pacey enough - with Morella singing of broken barriers and Babylons - but it's the organic-atmos remix from Biodub that really takes the cake for us, with its daring additions of swing and future garage influences.

Review: Greyscale continues to mine a particularly engaging corner of dubby minimal tech house with this high-grade compilation featuring some emergent names from the underground. Grush exercises great restraint unfurling the sublimely reduced groove around 'Raizel' while Philipp Priebe locks into a slinky strain of house with some premium metallic chords shimmering through the haze. Nicolas Barnes has a fine combination of rugged low end and pin prick bleeps up top on 'Sonic Shadows' and Cirkel Square locks into the snappiest swing on the record with the funked up 'Grey Rythem', proving Greyscale to be right on the money like always.

Review: Kiko & POPOF deliver a new 'minimal' EP that both kicks and pops off. 'Night Sky', however, abstracts the 'minimal' style into something that is actually quite maximal; though duly working in the tech house formula, the sound palette is dystopian and dark. Doing justice to the French pair's long-standing good rep - Kiko has but 500+ releases to his name - it's only natural that we hear something so fresh. Transformer sound FX and sci-fi impacts adorn each transition, especially on Yulia Niko and Mia Mendi's remixes, coaxing out twin states of ecstasy and dread.

Review: Of all the many projects tangled up in the late Pete Namlook's mercurial Fax +49 label, his enduring collaborations with Move D were surely some of the finest. Given they managed to commit to over 20 CDs in that time, it's no wonder many have struggled to get to grips with the sheer volume of material on offer. Luckily Away Records are manning a reissue operation which looks through these vast volumes and offers up some of the finest cuts. They last did this back in 2019 and now they're back from round two, picking the low-slung sci-fi electro funk of 'Silk Route' and the dubby ambient house mastery of 'Sleeplearnin' from 2008 and 2006 respectively as the abundant gifts to spoil our ears with.

Review: Move D and the late Pete Namlook recorded a lot of material during the heady years of Fax +49 Records, with some 24 CDs issued up to 2010 and additional singles besides. It's a lot of material to make sense of, but thankfully Away Records have taken up the mantle of providing a filter by means of this series of reissues, which started in 2019 and now returns for a second round. Picking just two tracks this time around, they've chosen two surprisingly energetic tracks from a partnership more commonly imagined traversing vast spaces of ambient electronica. 'Silk Route', pulled from the 2008 album Travelling The Silk Route, is a punchy affair with shifting sands of synths and samples atop a punchy electro-techno rhythm section. On the flip, 'Sleeplearnin' is a masterclass of deep and dubby house music with an abundance of ambient techno flourishes on top - a combination which works beautifully. Collectors rejoice at this red vinyl edition, no less!

Review: Away Music's series of Reissued 12"s are a valuable portal into the oceans of music recorded by David Moufang and Pete Namlook through their many years of collaboration. With so much material tucked away on hard to find CDs, it's incredibly helpful having someone sift through and pick out some of the best moments and press them onto a 12". There's a lot to enjoy on this three-tracker, moving from the warm and bubbly house of 'Der Strahlende Verlierer' which bears the hallmarks of classic Move D through to the scuffed, richly detailed electronica of 'Hardwired Tangent' and the dub techno extension of the track, 'Hardwired Hypotenuse + Asymptote'.

Review: A part-posthumous reunion of a longstanding collaboration between two titans of German ambient, Move D and the late Pete Namlook hear three of their most enduring classics reissued via Away Music. Drawing on slightly different traditions - D hailing from sophisti-minimal and Namlook a denizen of the more beatless, heavenly ambient and trance flaunted on his FAX label - the pair almost always produced an unmistakable style together, mired in many-a hazy, padded cloud and modular texture. These hallmarks are on full display here with 'Hardwired Tangent' on particular - what sounds to be an early alt-version of their beautiful compilation cut 'Wear Your Love Out' - while the blissful B-sider 'Hardwired Hypotenuse + Asymptote' stands out as a more mathematical ponderance of ungrounded space.

Review: Yore Records have past form in sneaking out Detroit-rooted gear from legends masquerading under pseudonyms - rumours abounded around the one-shot Trackleton release back in 2009. Now here comes P0lyrhythm with a minimal amount of background information and some highly refined machine soul referencing the origins of techno in its title. It's either an extremely authentic-sounding tribute or a sneaky gift from a pioneer, who knows for sure, and more to the point who cares? It's magical techno with pure uplift in its bones, offering the kind of restorative approach which is so desperately needed when so much club music tilts towards annihilation. Highly recommended for all lovers of the original techno sound.

Review: Yore is a low key but always worth checking label which has got together one of its best releases in some time here. P0lyrhythm is the artist behind it and the title, 'Motor City Dreams' gives you an idea of what to expect inside - Detroit-style techno with retro-future synth work. Opener '313 Hazy Days' is just that - an acidic mix of swirling pads and driving techno drums full of hi-tek soul. 'Shimmering Lights' has old school percussive sounds and singing synth patterns that light up the deeper drums and then the title cut takes off to the stars on wispy leads and sleek beats. 'Ray Eyes' completes this most tasteful of deep techno EPs.

Review: Sam Paganini is a long time techno legend and Drumcode is about as big as techno label get right now. Togtjer then make for a mighty force on this new Raev 12" especially as it comes with a remix from the boss man Adam Beyer in collaboration with Layton Giordani. Their take on the title track is a hefty one with industrial overtones, saw tooth synths and squealing synth sounds that makes for an intense atmosphere. The original from big man Sam is a more stripped back and seductive deep techno roller with infectious drum loops.

Review: First released digitally last year, Lilly Palmer's Drumcode label debut has finally made it on to vinyl. All three tracks have proved popular with digital DJs, and it's easy to understand why. Title track 'Resonate' is a fiendishly heavy, near brutal techno excursion in which tight, mind-warping acid lines, creepy aural textures and razor-sharp synth sounds leap above a blistering beat and doom-laden bassline. 'First Time in Space', in which she takes to the mic, is a frankly breathless and insatiably intoxicating acid techno stomper of the sort that Drumcode does so well, while 'Ultimate Feeling' pairs the booming, ten-ton beats associated with Belgian producer Amelie Lens with layers of creepy electronics and warped industrial sounds.

On this 12", we hear the LP's first part, with the no-fuss garagey 'Hole Away' and the stabby 'Changing Channels' piquing particular interest.

Review: It's been a long time since we heard from Pangaea, one of the three famous faces who made up the original Leeds label come ubiquitous DJ's DJ's DJ imprint - Hessle Audio. Though perhaps less appreciated than his contemporaries Ben UFO and Pearson Sound, now's his time to shine again: Changing Channels is his second ever album, following up 2016's In Drum Play (which for all its quality, rough, juddering techno experiments, will always line the shelves of many a budding selector). Like its predecessor, oddball bassy techno is here Pangaea's preferred mode, whether reflected in the sassy femme vocal cutups of 'Installation' or the spitting basses of 'Squid'. This is one of two vinyl 12"s over which the album is spread; an effort to enhance its playability for DJs.

Review: Raj Pannu has past form working with Coldcut, but he's making waves as a solo producer and following up a record in 2017 with this stand out slice of broken techno for To Pikap. The Greek label prefers taking a sideways approach to club music, and that's evident from the deft swerve on Pannu's 'Brute' as it glides through fragmented synth licks and syrupy bass. Tapping into a vein somewhere between Livity Sound and Fever AM, this is modernist gear for the crooked crowd. Subtlety comes as standard, but not at the expense of flair and finesse.

Review: Pearl steps up to make some arresting and high octane techno deliveries here via the first release from new label Koas. The Light We Chose is full of express dancefloor burners, not least the opener 'Patience'. It's a thumping techno cut with oversized hi hats and jittery low ends. 'Adrenaline' is just as raw and surging with synths peeling off the brutal drums and 'Unknown Discipline' then gets loopy and textured to lock the floor into a hypnotic sate. 'En Lo Exotico' then bangs the box with more unrelenting techno energy and two further cuts drop into slightly deeper but no less effective rhythms.

Review: Asher Perkins is one the seemingly endless stream of underground talents to emerge from the hallowed streets of Detroit and make it onto the world stage with their own distinctive take on the Motor City's signature sound. Here the former Minus man arrives on hometown label Beretta Grey with some fresh acid and minimal mutations. There is a subtle intensity to the scraping hits and fizzing pads of 'Your Attention Please' while 'The Chaos Proceeds' is more stripped back with gloopy synth daubs and soft shakers over a minimal drum line. Review: Soon as you drop the needle on PH Project's opener 'Blue Yellow Twist' here we guarantee you will be twisting your face in mock disc guts. The bassline is a filthy and old-school gem with organ chord stabs and spoken word snippets adding the irresistible sense of naughty house funk. DMA then bangs the box with cosmic synths and hints of 90s post-rave, Pilot System cruise on a chunky bit of bass-driven house and Frozilla & TJ go deep on far-sighted chords and bubbly bass. This is unpretentious, functional but fun house music from a small but already well-formed label.

Review: Legendary Belgium club Fuse knows a thing or several about techno and so it makes sense they have not got the label going once more. Phara is in charge for this one and pulls no punches. 'The Wall' will have you pinned to just that with its unrelenting loops and howling synth winds. 'Blaes 208' is more bouncy and buoyant with bright neon synth lines glowing warm and rich through the middle of the mix. 'Hush Now 206' hits hard once more with a dark warehouse sound and unsettling synth riffs, while 'Motion Steps' closes out with thudding kicks and twitch synths that take you into the future.

Review: Phara's Falling Forward EP is about just that - leaning into a still techno breeze and letting it sweep you off your feet. The title track is an expertly economical yet dynamic sound with panel-beaten techno loops, bulky drums and subtle synths lashing about for extra edge. 'Order Disorder' brings more intensity with its urgent and paranoid synth loops front and centre while 'Gate1' is another streamlined banger a la early Skudge. As with so many techno EPs, there is a nod to the Jeff Mills school of interplanetary minimalism on closer 'Cerulean Blue.'

Review: It is now well over a year since we got hyped by the first release from Phara on the Phaar label. Thankfully we are finally blessed with a second hand-stamped 12" that contains more brilliantly supple yet powerful techno. This is techno that is warm and has a real sense of machine soul no matter the mood or tempo. Things open in artful fashion before the pace picks up on 'Fleshy Part Of The Thigh' with its cantering kicks setting a heady pace while lush harmonics peel off the top. 'In Dubio' is a dub techno banger while 'Float' captures the essence of early and soulful Detroit techno in a modern framework.

It will feature tracks made on that bit of gear and played during his live sets. Review: Phillipi's second solo EP 'Terra Gira' lands on Deewee and is another full-throttle club excursion. 'Hacido' kicks off with pulsating techno drums and layers of shiny synth that are topped off with rubbery acid loops. Review: Unbelievably, Drumcode Records celebrates its 25th year in business in 2021. Adam Beyer's popular imprint has already delivered a swathe of must-check releases this year, and this collaborative outing from Pig & Dan and Victor Ruiz is another that label fans would do well to take note of. A-side 'Consciousness' is particularly potent, with the trio adding gnarly, mind-melting, dark room-ready riffs to a throbbing, trance-inducing techno groove. If tech-trance/neo-trance isn't your thing, turn to the flip. They're you'll find the moody and stomping big room techno of 'Music Takes You' - all doom-laden stabs and kick-drum driven heaviness - and the more melodious, colourful and rushing peak-time bliss of 'Silk', whose lengthy breakdowns are likely to send shivers down the spines of suitably refreshed dancers.

Review: Some techno is hard, some tech is cosmic, some techno is minimal. And some techno, like this EP from PO, is fun and funky. The drums are programmed in a way that gets you on your toes and tapping out various patterns while your mind is lost in the intergalactic synths work. 'The Time' is the finest example of that while 'We Are Wvil' gets a little more stripped back and serious but still has intriguing melodies and inventive bass shapes. Flip it over for further excursions into comics techno with an 80s feel, slap-funk EBM influences and brain-rewiring hardcore.

Review: Pole's 2022 album Tempus featured one particular track, 'Stechmuck' which was centred on the sound of his dying Minimoog. It's a tidy continuation of the faulty Waldorf filter which inspired his project name in the first place, and now Stefan Betke has taken the inspiration of his broken gear further by inviting a heavyweight cast of remixers to reversion the track. You might not have expected UK electro punk agitators Sleaford Mods to be crossing paths with German minimalist dub, but here we are and the results are incendiary. Elsewhere, Rrose delivers a textbook slice of writhing, tactile techno and Alessandro Cortini brings his grandiose synth expertise to bear on the track.

Review: It's silly but true that anything which has the words Detroit on it will immediately get more attention than something that doesn't. 99% of the time though the music lives up to that reputation as is the case here with a fourth offering from Detroit Sound Odyssey. It's a four-tracker that sees Isaac Prieto hook up with different collaborators on each tune. Moppy and 'Double Bass' open up with a well-swung house kick and deep bass combo while the machines get a little more unhinged on 'What Do You Want' with G&J. Javonntte brings his signature depth to 'Imperfections' and Ali Orlandi adds a heavyweight downbeat headiness to 'I Like That'.

Review: Remastered rarities by the late Susumu Yokota under his 246 and Prism monikers. Go Up was originally a defective release which has since been corrected and remastered and Vol 3 - 02 was not released. It also features a megamix of Ambient Love and Squeeze Up (which feature on Cosmic Soup 005) by Gene On Earth and a remix of Flare's Grip - Prism Remix by Matthew Herbert titled "Herbert's Make It Right Dub". Review: On their latest deep dive into the archives, Re:discovery Records has dipped into the vaults of techno producer Dietrich Schonemann, serving up selected tracks from two projects active between 1993 and '95: Portotype 909 (a trio that also included Jason Szostek and Taylor Deupree) and Facil (a collaboration with Abe Duque). Two tracks from the latter take pride of place on side A: the sparse, creepy, sub-heavy, ambient techno-goes-electro shuffle of 'Tree Frog' and the gorgeously sparkling, slow-motion IDM dreaminess of '700x7'. Prototype 909 is celebrated on side B, with the dreamy deep space chords, bustling breakbeats and psychedelic acid lines of 'Transit' being followed by the pitched-down TB-303 chug of 'Planet S' and the intergalactic IDM laziness of 'Same Place'.

Review: Re:discovery records are a 'chillout' techno label committed to reissuing lost gems from the 1990s and repackaging them for the modern listener. Their sound is downtempo and minimal, usually opting for more experimental post-EBMmy takes on the techno and electro sound. Emblematic of their focus is this new rerelease from Prototype 909 and Facil, 'Excerpts From 1993-1995', which slows many stock techno components down to a snail's pace; '700x7', for example, brings balearic moods to an otherwise bass-heavy kick-centric beat skeleton, the latter of which could otherwise have only come from the post-industrial bassweight that techno brought. 'Transit', meanwhile, is a pinnacle of acid trance. We advise you listen.

Review: Public Request kicks off the Oyster Ass label with some warm and punchy electro techno which should appeal to fans of labels like Partisan, Eya and Kalihari Oyster Cult. There's a smart balance struck between analogue synth flex and wiggy trance vibes on 'Mathematics', while 'Pulse Work' has a rich and agile sonic spectrum strapped to a classic slice of 90s organ house in the 'Plastic Dreams' vein. 'Low Pressure', 'Trans-Ition' and 'Absolute Space' maintain the playful, full-bodied production style shot through with playful vocal sample touches on the B-side, making for a strong debut turn from an artist we're sure to hear more from in the near future.

Review: There's plenty to get sucked into on this latest 12" transmission from Germany's Movida. It is Part 1 of a new Waterdrop EP from a quartet of artists. Somfay goes it alone to start with on the far-sighted and zoned-out house of 'Arborvitae (A Voice Like Water). Luc Ringeisen & Funk E then link up for 'Treinta Y Siempre' which is a lithe and sleek electro-tinged rhythm with lovely downbeat bass notes and more uplifting melodic patterns. Last of all is Polyfan Polyphenix, a jittery and rugged rhythm with razor sharp hi-hats and twisted vocals that bring a leftfield sound to 'Polymorph 2.'

Review: Perc Trax has long been excelling at caustic and industrial-tinged, white-knuckle techno excursions. Former 3 is another case in point as various artists come together to nail you to the floor of a gritty warehouse. The boss himself, Perc, appears with Million on the squealing, blistering workout that is 'Rotopod' while EAS brings wild video game soundtrack madness to his intense 'Ryu Acid.' Add in linear bangers from Somniac One with 'Junkyard Shift' and Exos's gabber-tinged, flat-footed stomper 'Warlion' and you have an absolutely monster EP of techno.

This third part of the A Sides collection brings together a towering selection of names from that scene including Tiger Stripes with the smooth cruise that is 'Altar'. Veterans Pig & Dan vs Gregor Tresher get more intense with frosty loops and dubby hits building a vibe and Wehbba ups the ante with acid daubs and fizzing drums on 'The Next Step.' Review: The sophomore release on Miami's Alchemista comes from Translate (Teo Pellegrino) and Joel Pulso, two rising Argentinian producers who join forces for some seriously mental techno excursions on 'Cuadricular Dreaming Pannel'. The first side of this essential 12' features the hypnotic interplanetary minimalism of 'Specific Angles' reminiscent of classic Sleeparchive, followed by the majestic and cyclical title track which this time takes its cues from Jeff Mills' unmistakable Axis sound. Over on the flip, the title track is treated to a surefire remix by the inimitable Oscar Mulero, head of Pole Group, who manages to inject more dancefloor dynamics into the arrangement, accentuating the spacey elements underpinned with a stronger rhythm department while staying true to the vibe of the original.

His long player "depicts the journey of an individual traveling through a field of energy that connects different locations in space," we're told, and along the way, it warps space and time to leave you spellbound. Punchy broken beat drum programming, hyper-real synth lines and cosmic colours all bring this record to life. It's a psychedelic mix that sometimes sounds like an MPC jam amongst the stars, at others like you're in freefall through the cosmos and sometimes laid back, stoned as can be gazing off into the heavens. Review: When it comes to jackin' Chicago style acid house revivalism, few can hold a candle to Paranoid London. As this long-awaited second album proves, the duo is the undisputed masters of sweaty, TB-303 driven jack-tracks and - as recent single "(Vi-Vi) Vicious Games" and LP opener "Starting Fights" prove - classic-sounding vocal cuts that recall the glory years of Fingers, Inc in the mid-to-late 1980s. Interestingly, "PL" boasts far more collaborations than we've seen from Paranoid London before, including a string of ragged club cuts blessed with evocative spoken word vocals, a thrusting acid throb-job with lead vocals by Simon Topping and a suitably twisted, machine-driven hook up with Arthur Baker and Alan Vega (the raw and weighty "Angel Of Hell").

Review: Perel's sophomore album Jesus Was An Alien continues in some ways from the themes she brought to her debut, 2018's Hermetica on DFA. The tracks are rich, lush in design and multi-layered with plenty of emotional uplift. While inspired by a raft of the best indie hitmakers she has her own sound which is perfect for the dance floor but also suited to listing away from the club. "Jesus Was An Alien is a discourse about whether Jesus was an actual alien" she explains, amusingly. When the debate sounds this good, no one cares about the answers.

Review: Back in 2021 Adam Pits heralded the start of the On Rotation label with his own debut album, A Recurring Nature. Now he's back with a follow-up which finds him stretching out as an artist ever more - a fact which is absolutely evident from the gorgeous ambient swathes of opening track 'Lost In The Ether'. Even when the drums kick in on 'Sleepless', they're more tilted towards fragmented patterns and organic tones rather than rote drum machine sounds. There's space for peppier electronica and steppy heads-down gear, but throughout Pits imbues his sound with the richest synthesis imaginable. In that sense, you can track the path of development from his earlier work while enjoying the adventurous new terrain he's exploring as an artist.

Review: Mario Piu is a tried and tested techno workhorse who has been at this since almost day once. He started in the golden days of the 90s and still keeps on turning out the jams today. This new coloured album on ZYX brings together some of his best bits from over those years. Some are originals, some are remixes, all of them are detuned to remind you of his great contribution to the scene as well as light up clubs all over again. Of course, his most successful tune was a real club classic, the 1999 single 'Communication', which is included here.

Review: Pixel82 hails from Portugal and has been making music for the last 20 years. Early on they made punk/industrial and were then in a metal band but now they deal in powerful techno. Infinity is a concept album about "the continuum of life, of a constant loop that evolves over time. It is a discovery of myself musically, a rediscovery of the past to find the future." It is also full of club cuts designed to drive a crowd into overdrive. These are emotive tunes laden with synths that bring rushes of euphoria and plenty of psychedelic colours. It's a widescreen and rewarding listen.
