Review: New Digital Fidelity has been making sweet moves recently with a debut on the lauded Moods & Grovers label out of Detroit followed up by a single on his own Scopic Records. Now he brings his class to Crush On The Beachside and again shows off his love of Detroit house vibes. Opener 'Crush On The Beachside' is raw and intense with humid chords and jacked-up drums, then 'Shattered' brings more loose and jumbled beatdown grooves and 'Crush On The Beachside' (K15 remix) is then bubbly, jazzy and cuddly. 'Cracking' rounds out with more rich chord work and bristling drum funk.

Review: Jalen Ngonda shares two 7"-incarnated selections from his debut album Come Around and Love Me. Anyone who has had the pleasure of seeing Jalen perform live knows that he is one of the most captivating performers on today's soul scene. His voice, equal parts raw feeling and elegance, exudes confidence and charm - disarming packed rooms of rowdy concert-goers, leaving them silent as they hold fast to every syllable sung. For his studio project, however, Ngonda and his team at Hive Mind Studios in Brooklyn developed skulful blends, heavy arrangements and introspective lyrics with a Motown sophistication, leaving the listener in a blissful wash of wonderment. Ngonda creates a classic approach that is rooted in the sounds of revered pioneers, without falling into imitation; most symptomatic of this is the beautiful cinematic soul echoer 'What Is Left To Do', a song sure to dazzle for years to come.

Review: Initially presumed lost in a warehouse fire during relocation in 2015, Suit Yourself Music has unearthed a treasure trove of 150 vintage 45s. After licensing and rebranding, these records are poised to become coveted rarities across diverse music scenes, from mod to dance. Among these finds is this lovely gemia lively, uptempo vocal rendition of Ivan "Boogaloo Joe" Jones' jazz dance classic by acid jazz pioneers, The Night Trains. Featuring the soulful vocals of gospel singer Natalie Maddix, this release was slated for 2015 but lost until now. Secure your copy for guaranteed good times.

Review: Named in honour of an experimental silent movie of the early 1920s, Polish duo Nanook of the North are a unique proposition: a collaboration between composer/violionist Stefan Wesolowski and electronic musician/guitarist Piotr Kalinski that defies easy categorization. Heide, the pair's second album, was recorded pretty much in the middle of nowhere, and its' musical blend of effects-laden ambient electronics, simmering strings and acoustic guitar motifs was reportedly inspired by "wildness and untamedness". It's a genuinely brilliant, ultra-atmospheric affair that uses repetition magnificently (a nod, we'd argue, to American minimalism) and benefits from guest contributions from mezzo-soprano Margarita Slepakova.

Review: When he sat down to record and produce Tender, his latest album, Mormito Naoki decided to take a different approach. Before beginning work, he assembled a huge array of musical snippets - strummed guitar notes, twinkling piano motifs, echoing keyboard sounds and so on - and fuzzy field recordings. He then "carved and reconstructed" these further, before stripping back the dense sound collage and arranging what's left. The resultant tracks hiss, pop and crackle, but uniformly offer breezy, morning-fresh beauty that hazily blurs the boundaries between loopy experimentalism, folksy minimalism, softly shuffling ambient beauty and yearning Balearic bliss. A genuinely inspired album all told.

Review: Iranian DJ/producer Ramtin Niazi (1000PA, Ben & Jerry, KAHKLI Cru) inaugurates new imprint Needlessness with some sleek and ravey tech funk on his new offering titled 'Reaction'. It comes with two remixes: London's Voigtmann (of Toi Toi fame) injects more groove into proceedings with his minimalist take, while Tbilisi-based Giorgi Koberidze aka Cobert (Casa Voyager/Partisan) equally impresses with his swing-fuelled electro beat re-rub, over on the flip.
