Review: This 12-inch picture disc version of Madonna's 'Erotica' single (taken from the concept album about sex and romance of the same name) is a thing to behold. It arrives, finally, courtesy of Warmer Music and is in honour of the tune's 30th anniversary. The picture on the vinyl is from Madge's Sex book but was withdrawn before it actually got released back in 1992. Three versions are presented here - the original album version, plus an instrumental and a radio edit.

Review: It has been six years since Macklemore dropped his last album Gemini in 2017. Ben is a welcome return to form after long battles with addiction and some sad relapses for the artist. 'Faithful' here is a very personal song that reflects those battles. "As long as I can remember, I've wanted to be clean, and yet the disease I have is always present, it always follows me," he says. That is well expressed through this record with four sides of deeply intimate and tightly packed hip-hop bars that make a real emotional impact.

Review: Six albums in and Madness had firmly established themselves as part of the British pop firmament when they released Mad Not Mad in 1985. It's a divisive album which captures Suggs' Camden Town likely lads in a period of transition as the 80s wore on and musical styles shifted. Moving on from the chirpy ska of their early days they moved into a more polished pop sound which landed them a billing on NME's 'Greatest Albums Of All Time' just weeks after its release. Review: There are a slew of live albums dropping in January whether by fluke or by design and one of the best ones is this. Madonna's Live In Dallas 1990 album comes on grey marbled vinyl and was originally recorded for a live radio broadcast. Her brilliant performance at Reunion Arena, on May 7th, takes in all of the very many Madge hits of the era, as you would expect. There is a particularly sensual version of 'Like A Virgin', an empathic version of 'Like A Prayer' and plenty of crowd-pleasing part starters such as 'Papa Don't Preach'.

Review: Canadian R&B duo Majid Jordan's self-titled debut album is five years old. It landed on Drake's Ovo Sound label and featured well known songs 'My Love' and 'Something About You' which exemplify their dark, insular, spacious sound. Vocalist Majid Al Maskati serves up all the heart aching hooks and rueful choruses while producer Jordan Ullma (with a little co-production help from Drake himself) lays down the stripped back sounds. Hip hop, R&B and neo-soul all colour the tunes and make this the sort of record you want to listen to on a late night drive. This special Record Store Day reissue comes on two slabs of transparent blue vinyl with a new insert.

The artists chosen to remix were all selected by McCartney himself and are said to feature "friends, fans, and brand new acquaintances." The record has picked up plenty of positive reviews already and that should be no surprise given the heavyweights included. The likes of Beck, Khruangbin, Dev Hynes, Ed O'Brien, Damon Albarn, Josh Homme, Anderson .Paak, Robert Del Naja, and Idris Elba all make for a contemporary mix with diverse results.

Review: Acclaimed and now rather veteran singer-songwriter Katie Melua is back with her ninth studio album Live & Money this March. It comes after she had a fine 2022 that included an acclaimed collaboration with Simon Geoff called Aerial Objects and for this one she links up with sometime Ghostpoet, Brian Eno and Regina Spektor producer Leo Abrahams. The album was recorded at Peter Gabriel's Real World Studios while Melua was pregnant and finds her reflecting on her place in the world. "It's about the scene changing and being a woman in the music industry and how strange and lucky I feel to have a job I'm addicted to." It's a great listen.
