Review: Groovin Recordings is kicking off a new series in brilliant style here with three killer disco-boogie tracks. They were all first released between 1979 and 1982 and first up is Arthur Adams with 'You Got The Floor.' It's an uber cool groove with AOR vocals, loose drum funk and sprinkles of disco dust. There is more theatre to the soaring strings of Millie Jackson's 'We Got To Hit It Off' which has rickety drum loops and funky bass riffs. C-Brand's 'Wired For Games' closes won and might be the best of the lot with its coy male vocal, playful guitar twangs and nice raw claps.

On this instalment we have five different joints to get stuck into, from the slow Afro house throw down of Alexny's 'Meneao' to Siggatunez's slinky, soulful groover 'Boogie'. Review: After All Is Well visited his friend Martin Iveson in his UK studio, the pair had lay down a few killer cuts, but the most standout of the lot was this one, which is sort of what it might sound like if Jean-Michel Jarre did Norwegian Cosmic disco. It's defined by the Korg Monopoly's weird paraphony and is rhythmically sustained by the Arp 2600 Bass line. Who else to remix but the legendary Prins Thomas, who layers in deep, funky bass, then Telephones explore the edges of the cosmos with a Subspace mix before a beatless version is also included.

Review: The original 'Subterraneans', composed by David Bowie from their 1977 album 'Low', was an emotionally striking piece that illustrated the struggles of withdrawal. German legend Alva Noto teams up with Depeche Mode's Martin Gore and ambient wizard William Basinski to transform the piece into an ephemeral, ghostly number that is almost even more chilling - with ambient synths and vocal echoing that conjure being lost in a deep cave, something almost supernatural at every turn. Review: Sonet's second Various Artists affair is another exploration of the deep and dark end of the minimal and tech house spectrum. Denis Andreev kicks off with a weird and wonderful exploration of hypnotic rhythms overlaid with detuned chamber music sounds and wonky strings. It's brilliantly creepy and perfect for the afters. Gruia's 'La Izvoare' then operate sin a more airy and heady space with deft synth modulations over slinky drums and snaking bass. Last of all comes the heaviest and most bumping cut of the lot from Mortalyf. 'Triple' has super smooth drum loops overlaid with futuristic drones and pepper with squelchy synth textures.

As has always been the case over that 10 year period, the sounds it serves up are deep and housey. This various artists affair kicks off with AsTreJinkins' slow and propulsive 'Terror' before some nice airy and live sounding broken beats from New Digital Fidelity. Review: First released on Perception Records in 1991, Atomix's debut single 'STK (Eternal)' offers a musical bridge between the electro-influenced bleep techno sound that emerged from autumn 1988 onwards and the later, breakbeat-driven hardcore rave sound. Review: Some high-grade re-edit action here, as dusty-fingered Chicagoan crate diggers Sadar Bahar and Marc Davis join forces with pal (and credited mixer) Rahaan on two fine tweaks of suitably obscure tracks. Review: Italian label Spittle have launched their new Dependance sub label to champion all things Italo, and they're following up on reissues of Zed's 'Plastic Love' and Trophy's 'Slow Flight' with this gem from fabled Italian DJ and producer Massimo Barsotti. Originally released in 1983 on Alexander Robotnick's Fuzz Dance label, we're absolutely treated to a peak Italo version of Led Zeppelin's 'Whole Lotta Love', which takes the original and runs with it in the best possible way. As well as the original we get the killer 'W.L.L.' version excursion on the flip, which rocks out just as hard.

Review: On his contribution to Watergate's mix series, Biesmans has decided to showcase his own tracks, and mostly a dizzying array of previously unheard collaborations with some seriously talented producers. It makes sense then that the German imprint has decided to show off the best of these across two vinyl samplers, of which this is the second. It's a great collection all told, with opener 'Quantum Computing' - a bumping piano-house hook-up with one of his musical heroes, Mathew Jonson - and the effortlessly funky nu-disco workout 'Me Gusta Acid', co-produced by Kid Simius, standing out. Elsewhere, solo cut 'Hipster Paradise' and Johannes Albert collaboration 'Luft' are also well worth a listen.

For that reason alone, the 12" is well worth checking out. Alce begins by offering up his warm, soulful and groovy vocal revision of Emdee Brown's "Again", before treating us to two versions of DJ Kemit and the Lounge Lizards' "Wake Up Stand" - a righteous vocal take and a "Hardubb" that brilliantly recasts it as a rolling late night bumper. Yet that's exactly what's on offer here, as the Hardwax founder delivers two typically deep, dubbed-out techno outings crafted from portions of the pair's collaborative cut 'Badman', which is due to feature on Calbre's forthcoming sixteenth studio album, Feeling Normal. Review: Does drum and bass get any better than this? Two of the finest names in the genre club together for "Run Away", met in the middle by the man like Fox who puts his vocal stylings into the mix. Rolling out smooth, it's that lulling bassline and softly-spoken chorus that takes the edge off punchy drums and signature Intalex-style strings from the pad section. Fans have been waiting for a release on this for some time now - finally, it's ownable. Rallying round in support of World Mental Health Day 2020, Shanti Celeste kicks the record off in style with the rapid fire, deep-diving workout 'Fantasma'. OCB keeps the pressure up with the psychotropic techno of 'RS3', while Michelle works up some delightfully freaky synths on playful jacker 'Aesthetic'. Review: Synkronized is just three releases deep now but is already an assured and reliable outlet for fresh house sounds. This latest offering takes the form of a various artists EP and opens with the brilliantly spaced out electronic house of'Lorenzo Chiabotti & Just_Me's 'Darko FM'. It's a silky one with balmy pads that encourage you to dive right in. Martin M's 'Pleasure Minds' then strips things backed to a nice and empty but rolling groove and on the flip Chad Andrew & Imbue get crunchy with their broken beats. That leaves just Den Haas with his mellifluous and pillow deep house cosmic delight, 'The Spot.'

Review: Monstrously glassy, yet heavy hard techno cuttage from the French RAW crew, who welcome four stunning audio fragments from various artists in their orbit. It's the seventh release in the Gemstones series, which is in turn inspired by different types of precious stones. Opener 'Neo Tokyo Vision' is an exciting and cutting tittilator, with massive rave stabs and a nigh-perfect balance of weight and highs, evoking the feeling of freely trawling the city at night with reckless abandon. Things grow grungier from thereon, with the likes of 'Black Mesa' and 'Burned Out' hearing the EP grow increasingly soily, subterranean.

Review: Adam Beyer's notable techno label Drumcode seems to be as busy as ever of late. The label here rolls out a fourth part of its ongoing A Sides series, which is now up to volume 12. Though the Swede himself doesn't feature, some of his trusty sidemen do starting with Chris Avantgarde who brings big room, hard techno energy to 'The Last Time'. Bry Ortega keeps it just as intense with the machine-gun like synth fire of 'Discover 9', Massano brings some brighter synth loops to the stomping 'Betraya' and Spektre shut down with a mix of hardcore, trance and techno potency on 'Too Far Gone.' Some great DJ weaponry here, for sure.

Review: Sweat It Out Records kicks off their tasty Sweat Sampler series with their first volume, cutting niftily across four exceptionally sweaty bops, spanning tongue-in-cheek deep tech reworks and downtempo disco delights. First off is the dream team of Cid and Havoc & Lawn, whom together deliver a hilariously effective house version of America's 'A Horse With No Name'; this is shortly followed by Saturday Love, Kon and Furious's 'Come Out', a rejigged nu-disco samosa packed with some rare vocal spices; then there's 'Give It To Me' by Marco Lys and Ben Miller, a bass-driven bouncer unafraid of lasershot winddowns, injunctive vocals and risers; and finally, there's Set Mo's 'Could I Be', the anthem of the bunch, whose buildup and drop is alarming, affecting, cumulatively awe-striking.

Review: The Spanish Hypnotic Collective label attempts to capture its take on the Detroit Legacy with what looks like a new series of various artists' EP. There is plenty of Motor City soul in the gorgeous synths of Cignol's muted acid and deep house opener 'Distance' which is a soothing and reverential groove, but then its pure party from Barce, Alex Martin offers up 313 style tech and three further tunes on the flip explore blistering electro with high-speed funk and cosmic intent. Mission accomplished and we're already looking forward to the next one.

Review: Collab EPs are back in fashion, and Tropical Disco are leading their charge. The boundlessly potentiated space between disco, dance and jazz is their game, and 'Tropical Disco Volume 23' proves they can win it time and time again. Four tracks of trumpetting 4x4 glory-buzz dominate this EP. Clean Is Good wipes the floor with disco-edit edge, while Moodena comes through with a mighty mood of motor city madness, and Sartorial and Infrasoul share the B-side with a pair of broken, drum-banging and glass-shattering instrumentals. There's even a disco flute in there somewhere.

Review: Christian Smith's esteemed Tronic imprint recently deployed the second edition in its More Than Machine series which explored more underground sounds than expected, mainly in the form of electro. British newcomer Client 03 drops some sublime futurist beats on 'Default Mode Network', legendary Belgian Marco Bailey delivers something different from his usual main room techno sound on 'Smoke It'. Over on the flip, Smith's former studio collaborator John Selway makes a welcome appearance on the sci-fi bass explorations of 'Phase Vortex' and Kanzleramt staple Alexander Kowalski delivers the EP highlight on the dystopian machine funk of 'Flickering Lights'.

Review: The third vinyl release of the year from Blur Records sees three distinguished producers - ColorJaxx, T.Markakis and Manuel Kane - sharing duties, each delivering a track each but with the distinctive, music-centred 'deep house fusion' flavour of the Blur label very much at their heart. ColorJaxx's 'I Know You' kicks off proceedings in upbeat mood, goaded along by a skippy garage beat, some beautiful piano work and arresting male vocals. 'Ain't Like That' by T.Markakis rolls slower and deeper, clouds of warm synth giving it a reassuring, dub feel, while Manuel Kane's 'Funk' boasts a cheery, end-of-evening sparkle with its hypnotic vocal samples and gentle sirens. Quality without pretention whichever way you turn.

Review: Heist Recordings' tenth anniversary celebrations are drawing to a close, but the Dutch label is not done with showcasing the dancefloor gold nestled in its bulging back catalogue. Here they offer up a second 'Heist Classics' EP featuring five more tried-and-tested treats originally released at different points over the last decade. On side A, Crackazat's rolling, summery and ultra-positive 'Alfa' is followed by the jazzy, musically detailed, disco-flecked and sun-splashed 'Espilon Girls' by Andy Hart and the re-born disco-funk shuffle of Makez's 'Different Planets'.
