Review: Past Inside the Present's 'Pulse' series is an investigation into ambient tech and beat-driven ambient sounds. Who better for the job on this second edition than master craftsmen ASC and Joachim Spieth? ASC opens up with 'Tidal Disruption Event', an understated, underwater rhythm with jittery percussive patterns and bright shards of melodic light piercing through the mix as more coarse soundwaves break over the top. Spieth's 'Subtle' is just as artful and delicate a mix of persuasive rhythm and melodic beauty. A classy Nitechord remix closes out this fascinating EP.

Review: People Of Earth strides into the New Year with a new project called The Elements Series. Part one welcomes some serious names, not least Detroit's ambient and techno master John Beltran who kicks off with 'Nuyorico' a joyous, chord-laced house groove laden with organic percussion. Javonntte's 'Tropical Feelings' is another of his textbook deep house cuts with whispered vocals bringing a spiritual vibe. Atlanta's main man Kai Alce does his do with the jazzy synth energy of shuffling house cut 'Benefit' (NDATL instrumental mix) then Byron The Aquarius pairs things back to dusty drums and humid chords on 'Sun Gods'. This one is only for the real heads.

Review: Native Soul Recordings has been around a long old time in dance music terms and now it looks back over some of its finest works with this first in a new series of Best Of comps. Music writer Harold Heath is first up with 'Slipstream,' an effortless smooth late-night house cut with introspective chords and silky pads bringing real depth. The Candy Dealers get more lithe and elastic with the spraying bass and jumbled percussive house of 'Train Of Thought' and last of all, Asad Rizvi remixes Jevne's 'Moderize' with a funky little bassline and chord vamps that keep you on edge. Review: First available digitally earlier in the year and now finally out on wax, this tidy 12" showcases a quartet of killer cuts from the studios of In Dust We Trust co-founders, Chaos in the CBD (New Zealand-born siblings Ben and Louis Helliker-Hales) and Jon Sable. The trio offer up two collaborative cuts, both of which give different spins on the fusion of dub techno and hypnotic deep house. There's opener 'Mahia Madness', a thickset, late-night number that's as dubby and hazy as any Deepchord record, and the gently picturesque, Sprinkles-esque 'To Puke Thunder'. Review: Spanish label MATE host a four track, two artist 12" that stretches across the Atlantic to take in top house music talents from both sides. The Belgian duo Chasse follow their releases on Robsoul and Exploited take on the A-side, with 'Viola' proving a chunky but emotive offering held together by rhythmic sax stabs and suspended strings and 'Deep Link' a jazzier affair, the sax let properly loose as a plaintive piano loops atmospherically. The prolific Detroit producer Javonntte, a regular on the label, offers up the fantastic Moog improv wigout of 'Sunday Brunch Cocktail', registering some impressively original high frequency operations. 'When Music Feels' boasts a spoken word vocal from Javonntte's own sister and a more classic deep house sound with an uplifting, spiritual vibe. Maximum value for money via four very playable tunes.

Review: Dutch crew Body N Deep are back with more music that is aimed at both head and heel. This fourth volume in its BND Project series welcomes four more venerated names starting with Marc Cotterell whose 'Deepha' (Plastik Factory Vox mix) is all warm, smeared chords and 90s vibes, while Matt Gillespie's 'Movin' is more stripped-back to sustained pads and shuffling, dusty drums that soon get under the skin. It's a collaborative affair from James Curd & Jonasclean who race out of the blocks with the fat and heavy stomper 'Mullen It Over' which has snaking leads and rushy-feels. Would it surprise you to learn that the Fred P Reinterpretation is deep, heady and spiritual? Marcel Vogal remixes too, though with a more upbeat feel and lush summery chords. It is a various artists offering as always with DJ Delivery's 'Never Gonna Give You Up' a sure-fire floor-filling anthem to start things off. Review: Akka & BeepBeep is a new label from the US that is dropping its first two EPs simultaneously on Valentine's Day. Joradesilver is behind one, and also feature sin collaborative mode on this other 12". It opens with 'King David', a hi-tek house sound with soul drenched pads and tightly programmed drums and bass. 'Mango Strut' slows right down to dubbed out house with clattering percussion and the sound of spacecraft, then 'June Buggy' gets funky with more twitchy cosmic synths and a nice organic house groove. 'Callin' Dybbs' is a deep and smoky closer for the backroom with a sublime sax line drifting throughout.

It was a 70s thing where artists served up their own unique reggae versions of Christmas classics and now we get volume 17 of the Christmas Songbook. This one comes on 12" in hand-stamped sleeve and the A-side is an 11+ minute collection of tunes from Derrick Harriott & The Tamlins & Joy White & Reasons & U-Brown with natty chords, sleigh bells and choral reggae vocals. What a mix. In authentic reggae fashion, the flip side is a dub of the whole lot by The Chariot Riders.

Review: Reptile Mob is a newly launched, vinyl-only sub-label of the well-regarded GLBDOM imprint. It kicks off with a five-track various artists release that pays homage to the garage sound. 'Don't Know It' by Highrise opens up with a distantly 90s vibe, then Sky Joose shows his class on 'On The Shores' with its hard-edged bassline and full-throttle drums. Review: Released back in 1996, Test Pilot Vol 1 has remained a highlight of the Viewlexx label ever since and has been one of those records that command regular calls for a repress. Kudos to I-F then for finally heeding these shouts and presenting a remastered edition for the masses. For the uninitiated, this 12" features classic Hague cuts from I-F and Jungian Archetype, another alias of the Viewlexx boss, with all four perfect for introducing a sense of bedlam to the dancehall. "Who Are You...?! (Theme From Paranoid Stranger)" in particular will bend many an unprepared mind. Review: Jack D's Regional Groove EP, the second record on the Dias De Campo label, kicks off in style with tech house roller 'Magic Pipe' and the title track both boasting a pulsing atmosphere and a nice, upbeat energy. 'Dub Traveller' is also a strong track and 'Congo Experiment', the downtempo addition to the bunch to close things out, both catchy and fun. Review: Man of many aliases Ron Wells is undoubtedly an under-appreciated British dance music hero - a producer who delivered a string of innovative jungle-techno releases in the early 90s and has been serving up killer cuts in a variety of styles ever since. Here he dons the Jack Smooth alias (a moniker he debuted way back in 1991) for a collaborative four-tracker alongside fellow storied veteran Anthony Wilson AKA Chicago Loop. They begin in sensational fashion via the bleep-sporting analogue acid house of 'Waverider', before opting for warehouse-ready early UK techno sounds on the gnarled and nasty 'Innervision'. 'Blunderbuss' adds warped hardcore rave sounds to a sweat-soaked jackin' house beat, while 'Under The Influence' sounds like a long lost, loved-up tech-house blueprint from 1994. Stellar stuff all told.

Review: It might be one of the most famous hotels in Las Vegas but now the Bellagio lends its name to this new label. The first missive is a delightfully deep and classic house sound from Jacy. 'Sound Of Eleven' is coated in dusty chords and dreamy pads with an early 90s Italia feel, then 'After Dance' adds to the serene sense of hose escapism with more lushness. 'Sometimes' has a nice heavy groove and soft pads that linger in the air with real class. Last but not least is something of a Chicago jacker with 'It's You' layering up the toms. Review: Breezy headwinds, orange-tinged skies, hazy, serene bliss - just some of the profound feelings to be had on the latest release from Oath, a masterclass in melody and mood from one of the finest contemporary house producers about today. 'Night Fantasy' is Jacy's first EP in four years and much like his other records, this one blesses us with warmth, delight and joy, in the softest and most subtle of manners. The title track, which opens up the record, greets the listener with a familiar drum pattern, one which then gives way to the rock-hard bassline; 'Just Change' comes on next, and this one opens up with that classic and explicitly dreamy chord sequence we all know and cherish, with Jacy allowing us to soak up this goodness before shifting the perspective to the rhythm. 'Dat Tape' shifts perspective to more of a swing in terms of the groove, with sweeping background pads doing much to tug at the heartstrings - and, finally, we have 'Come On', which retains a more spacious feel between the keys and the drums.

Review: Derek Jamerson was the son of Motown bassist James Jamerson Jr. and grandson of Motown Funk Brother's house band bassist James Jamerson. He himself made a select few house records back in the mid-nineties which have been unearthed by some contemporary deep diggers. A couple of his tunes now get reissued on this The Legacy Continues EP on Endangered Musique. 'So Hard' is traditional US house with organ chords, chattery claps and well-placed vocal samples, then 'Hot House' gets a bit more loose and soulful. On the flip are three different versions of Derrick's biggest tune, 'Adventures Of A Disco Diva', all of which bring some form of piano house magic.

Review: Mall Grab's Warehouse Music serves up sounds for just that setting and for this latest bit of dancefloor dynamite, they turn to Joshua James & Ride Committee Featuring Roxy for a twisted new single. 'Love To Do It' is a mix of hefty hits and crunchy drum breaks, driving techno bass and filtered vocal stabs with wordless vocalisations. It's intense and high energy but has a unique character which then gets mixed up by Mella Dee, twice. His Law & Disorder mix is a stripped-back and punchy banger with freaky vocal work and the Split Your Wig mix is even more punchy and barrel chested.

Review: Burnski's Constant Black keeps on serving up the heat with a new one from Michael James, who is something of a label regular by now. He kicks off here with 'Remember' featuring a rather iconic vocal sample that cannot fail to get crowds going. It's well worked over an infectious house beat with warming bass. 'Tequila' is another kinetic cut, this time with skewed synth lines and prickly percussion that is raw and tech-edged. Closing out this classy but party-starting EP is 'Remember Me' (version 2) which is a real pumper with twisted acid lines and a killer groove that is catchy as Covid. Another vital drop from this label, as always.

The best of them come on his own label 326 which is where he arrives now with this new 12" Dancefloor Damage Vol 1. Review: Since moving to Rotterdam a couple of years back, Chicagoan DJ/producer Jamie 3:26 has begun serving up some seriously good original music, usually in cahoots with local lad, wizard keyboard player and fellow producer Danou P. The most eyebrow-raising cut here is a more surprising collaboration with UK legend Mr Scruff: the wonky, analogue rich, Ron Hardy-goes-to-Manchester style wayward house brilliance of 'Scrubb It'. Danou P replaces the Ninja Tune stalwart on the EP's two other cuts, both of which are excellent. Check first the immersive, dreamy, synth-smothered deep house hypnotism of 'Love Not', where Danou P's keyboard skills and musicality work in perfect harmony with the Chicagoan's dancefloor instincts, before admiring the more Brazilian disco-influenced elasticity of 'Earl Montana'.

We're still reeling from the anonymous Punkrocker and Self Aware EPs. This time around there are names on the plates, as four artists throw down in maximum style. Review: French minimal, tech and house master Janaret is back with more spaced out brilliance, this time on Shall Not Fade, one of the UK's most consistently excellent - and eclectic - labels. 'Joy & Happiness' kicks off with crispy tech beats and swirly sci-fi synths while gurgling bass works away down low. 'Silent' is a steamy brew for more peak time moments but never loses its class, and the vibes keep coming with 'Fallin' then slipping into a super cool and breezy late night deep house groove. 'Advanced' closes down with an electro-leaning rhythm that is light up by snappy snares and synth modulations.

Review: Brokntoys has been helping to set the electro agenda for some years now. This 85th outing is a hand-stamped, white label 12" in mad limited quantities from Alex Jann and it opens with a cosmic adventure in the form of 'Cold Light Wave'. Things get much darker on 'Collective Paranoia' with its menacing low ends and booming sub-bass, then 'Pass 3' takes on a creepy atmosphere with sequential synth bleeps and bumpy broken beats keeping you guessing. Last of all is a funky cyborg disco workout in the form of 'The Chamber'.

Review: Ewan Jansen returns to RAND Musik for a tricksy foray through the standard yet effective selection of four tracks: all are disparate, seemingly enchanted worlds. From opener 'Electropolis', we're launched into a bustling, wild, alternate garden of the dance, teeming with all manner of keen creatures and organic-sonic delights. Then comes the (hopefully) anime-referencing 'Lain's Groove' and 'Dead Nights And Headlights', which edge closer to the darker cores of Jansen's shadow self in sound. We finally reach the precipice on 'Wild Shore', which hears us witness the sonic core to end all other cores, in its brimming totality.

Review: Fresh label operation Gladio Operations are embarking on a new spate of releases. Extending the idea of splitting a slab of wax between artists to the music itself, 'Split Machine' is the latest from French-Spanish collaborators Jauzas The Shining and Cycloplex, united in their taste for rugged electro. Even so, their respective styles shine through nicely here: The former delivers three cuts of aggressive and textured basslines, while the latter offers two tracks of comparatively hypnotic rhythms. Though it's an elusive concept, both effortlessly convey the notion of the schism in the machine.

After the first wave it cemented itself in the deeper end of the spectrum with artists like The Burrell Brothers being key to that success. Review: Any new tune drop the Jazz N Palms label is something worth getting excited about and this, the seventh, is another fine example of that. It is a label from an Italian beat maker and deep-digging DJ who lives in Ibiza and taps into the new Balearic sound. This one kicks off with the lively jazz stylings of 'Vamonos' then moves onto 'Con Alma', a broken beat dance floor viber layered with tons of percussion.
