3D & Robert Owens - "Known Love" (7:51)
Olivier Giacomotto & Quivver - "Snailblazer" (6:40)
Dave Seaman & Hernan Cattaneo - "Napkin Knowledge" (7:28)
Argia & Jepe - "Salitre" (7:38)
Review: In celebration of their tenth birthday, Selador marks the occasion in style with a four-track collaborative EP, featuring tracks from 3D, Robert Owens, Olivier Giacomotto, Quivver, Dave Seaman, Hernan Cattaneo, Argia, and Jepe. The opening track, 'Known Love', is a deep, pulasting house tune that feels like an instant classic, perhaps thanks to the soulful, pop-tinged vocals - think LCD soundsystem meets Four Tet. 'Snailblazer', the second track on the EP, takes a much darker turn, with a chugging, EBM-esque feel. Full-bodied and complete with obscured vocals, this is the kind of track to pull out your bag when it's time to really get stuck in. On the B-side, 'Napkin Knowledge' draws on the glistening synths of eurodance, yet still securing the melodies to a grounded bassline and rhythm section. 'Salitre' is the perfect closing track, rising up in a gleaming, ecstatic melody, before delicately returning to ground level. A varied yet firmly cohesive collaborative release - the perfect way for Selador to kick off their 2023 catalogue.

8Kays & Juan Hansen - "Falling Down" (Chris Avantgarde remix) (6:52)
8Kays - "Lyra" (5:23)
Review: Watergate, the cult Berlin club known for its riverside location and legendary LED ceiling above the dancefloor, is also a reputable tech house label that deals in fresh names only. Here it is 8Kays that makes a debut with Falling Down, a selection of superb collaborations including 'Matematica' with Glowal which is tense and electric tech with indie vocals and with Juan Hansen he cooks up the medically hopeful 'Falling Down' which then gets two remixes. Colyn & Beswerda make it into a moody and deep groove, Chris Avantgarde brings some peak time prog energy and solo cut 'Lyra' has a warm, paddy broken beat to cruise on through the stars.

ANFS - "Kavatza" (5:42)
Scalameriya - "S'pendrek" (4:40)
CTSD - "Algorithmica" (4:57)
Jerm - "Toxic Positivity" (6:09)
Review: Up to this point, the deliciously devilish Renegade Methodz label has largely been a vehicle for founder Endlec's fearsome, formidable techno productions. Following his Cycle Of Doom release comes this VA drop, which helps map the contours of the techno which makes this Greek label tick. ANFS brings a claustrophobic pressure to 'Kavatza' before Scalameriya lets rip with some punishing, noisy firepower packing all the necessary punch for a big room rave-up. CTSD brings some wild sound design flair to the peaks and troughs of 'Algorithmica' while still keeping the production gnarly and then Jerm finishes the job with a deep-diving, heads-down chokeslam of a track.

Joachim Spieth - "Subtle" (Nitechord remix) (4:45)
Review: Past Inside the Present's 'Pulse' series is an investigation into ambient tech and beat-driven ambient sounds. Who better for the job on this second edition than master craftsmen ASC and Joachim Spieth? ASC opens up with 'Tidal Disruption Event', an understated, underwater rhythm with jittery percussive patterns and bright shards of melodic light piercing through the mix as more coarse soundwaves break over the top. Spieth's 'Subtle' is just as artful and delicate a mix of persuasive rhythm and melodic beauty. A classy Nitechord remix closes out this fascinating EP.

Review: The Deeptrax series has so far turned out many delightfully head techno sounds for those who like to have their brains as busy as their heels when in the club. This one Deep Series 1.3, kicks off with Caim's impossibly smooth and cool electro-tinged trip 'Straight No Chaser' with its mellifluous pads and deft drums. Mathijs Smit offers a more physical but still warm sound with 'Abducted' and then Joey Anderson shows his class with a grimy and dubby roller, 'All Around Us.' Rich P/Lee's 'Clown Inc' (vocal mix) brings a little playful funk and Pim's 'Somethings On My Mind' is another breezy and cathartic cut.

Chaos In The CBD & Jon Sable - "Te Puke Thunder" (7:11)

Review: First available digitally earlier in the year and now finally out on wax, this tidy 12" showcases a quartet of killer cuts from the studios of In Dust We Trust co-founders, Chaos in the CBD (New Zealand-born siblings Ben and Louis Helliker-Hales) and Jon Sable. The trio offer up two collaborative cuts, both of which give different spins on the fusion of dub techno and hypnotic deep house. There's opener 'Mahia Madness', a thickset, late-night number that's as dubby and hazy as any Deepchord record, and the gently picturesque, Sprinkles-esque 'To Puke Thunder'. The EP also boasts a solo track apiece, with Chaos in the CBD opting for non-stop, energy-packed deep techno hypnotism ('Coral Castle'), and Sable reaching for dreamy deep house chords and rubbery broken beats ('Ascension Island').

ANFS - "Amete" (5:41)
Jerm - "Kaki" (4:53)
Review: Analogue is the Greek label which takes no prisoners in its pursuit of pure techno perfection and that's abundantly clear on this latest Various Artists drop, as Dax J kicks into gear with the searing, pummelling intensity of 'Ares'. It's a proper fist-shaker which sets you up for the hi-octane rumble of Kaiser's 'Kal' and ANFS' industrial jackhammer 'Amete'. That leaves Jerm to clean up with another weapons grade sheller driving ever-downwards in the ultimate ticket to peak time submission. This is techno in the toughest sense of the word - a very specific sound executed perfectly.

Marching (6:41)
Review: Decoder & Jay York make a debut on vinyl here as they launch their own new label Toca. It's one they say will "prioritize quality over the quantity, and put forth more experimental shades of techno." First up they come for your mind with a driving and leaner techno cut layered up with sonours bells and lithe synths. 'Mynus' is a dubby one that rides up and down the scales to hypnotic and unsettling effect, always with the feeling that something monstrous is just around the corner. 'Merk' rides on lovely deep and rubbery kicks that pack a proper punch under more meandering synth work and 'Marching' shuts down with a more trippy and afterparty vibe. Versatile for sure.

Techno
Review: ***B-STOCK: Sleeve damaged but otherwise in excellent condition***

Berlin's Cocktail d'Amore and Tokyo's Ene Records have come together once again to present the music of Solidair. The duo of Cocktail alumni Luigi Di Venere and Jules Etienne present three tracks aimed to induce a dance floor hypnosis. Orgonite (Riding the Waves) does just that, a slow build awash in the ebb and flow of acid tinges, just enough to wet your whistle on a Saturday night. The original mix keeps the skeletal support but throws in a life preserver of 8 bit gaming synthesis. Frisky arps call and respond to each other before making way for sinewy pads to lift off. Tiger's Eye sets itself onto cruising speed incorporating elements of late 90's acid techno with the sleek and smooth clubbing aesthetics of modern day Berlin.

Teknobrat - "Acid Barnako" (6:31)
DJ Mourad - "Illegal Alien" (6:30)
Review: Derrick Thompson is back under his Drivetrain alias and steering another various artists release on his own Soiree label carrying real-deal underground house and techno from his home base in the Motor City. Thompson kicks off with 'Spin The Record', a jacking, tracky slab of metallic pressure which will work wonders in the mix with all kinds of gear. Jay Strata is up next with 'Heart Strings', a plush slice of machine soul schooled in the Detroit approach. Teknobrat brings something a little spicier but no less classically informed, while DJ Mourad completes the set with an edgy, loopy affair to send synapses into overdrive.

Review: Released back in 1996, Test Pilot Vol 1 has remained a highlight of the Viewlexx label ever since and has been one of those records that command regular calls for a repress. Kudos to I-F then for finally heeding these shouts and presenting a remastered edition for the masses. For the uninitiated, this 12" features classic Hague cuts from I-F and Jungian Archetype, another alias of the Viewlexx boss, with all four perfect for introducing a sense of bedlam to the dancehall. Review: Man of many aliases Ron Wells is undoubtedly an under-appreciated British dance music hero - a producer who delivered a string of innovative jungle-techno releases in the early 90s and has been serving up killer cuts in a variety of styles ever since. Here he dons the Jack Smooth alias (a moniker he debuted way back in 1991) for a collaborative four-tracker alongside fellow storied veteran Anthony Wilson AKA Chicago Loop. They begin in sensational fashion via the bleep-sporting analogue acid house of 'Waverider', before opting for warehouse-ready early UK techno sounds on the gnarled and nasty 'Innervision'. 'Blunderbuss' adds warped hardcore rave sounds to a sweat-soaked jackin' house beat, while 'Under The Influence' sounds like a long lost, loved-up tech-house blueprint from 1994. Stellar stuff all told.

Review: After necessarily taking time out for personal reasons, Jackmaster is slowly but surely getting back to where he was a few years ago. The party-staring Scot was a real DJ circuit favourite who also knew how to kick out the jams and that's what he does here for the fourth release on the Slack 85 label which debuted last year under the auspices of a certain Seth Troxler. 'Party Going On' is pure fun - a flaming hue cut with an impossibly catchy and pitched-up vocal. 'Freaky Like That' (with Jasper James) is surging Detroit house music with analogue drums and 'Let's Go' (Tom Trago Remix) is a dirty, loopy disco house cut and we love it.

Review: Mall Grab's Warehouse Music serves up sounds for just that setting and for this latest bit of dancefloor dynamite, they turn to Joshua James & Ride Committee Featuring Roxy for a twisted new single. 'Love To Do It' is a mix of hefty hits and crunchy drum breaks, driving techno bass and filtered vocal stabs with wordless vocalisations. It's intense and high energy but has a unique character which then gets mixed up by Mella Dee, twice. His Law & Disorder mix is a stripped-back and punchy banger with freaky vocal work and the Split Your Wig mix is even more punchy and barrel chested.

Here the veteran Australian producer brings his brand of analogue-rich house and techno to Cyphon Recordings for the very first time. Naturally, Jansen's high standards don't dip across the six-track mini album, making it a genuine must-check. Our picks of a sensationally strong bunch include the trippy deep house hypnotism of 'Salt Circuit', the outer-space electro shuffle of 'Brinewave', the moody and high-tech Drexciyan rush of 'Faulty Gelfing' and the gently intergalactic deep house-meets-tech house warmth of 'Surabaya'.

Review: 'Acid'(when referring to the TB-303 hardware that makes the sound, that is) is rarely leant into as an artistic inspiration - it's usually just used as a tool for making a cool sound. That all changed with the launch of Acid Avengers recently, a French series that not only showcases the various artists behind the contemporary acid techno scene in France, but which treats acid as an entire universe unto its own right. Post-apocalyptic acid mutants blessed with powers of tactile corrosion are portrayed on their front covers, matching the raucous vibe of armageddon portrayed through their contributing tracks - here from twin doom harbingers Jacquarius and Mono Enzyme 307. Don't miss these ultra-saturated, high-concept heaters.

Review: Sex Tapes From Mars come back a year after their last EP with a third one on the small but well-formed label and this one is handed over to Jata. Opener Stutter '(I)' is pure funky techno and mind altering cosmic synth work for the peak time. It's a bright and vivid sound world that's as good for the head as the heel. 'Midstate' then gets more dirty with warp synth riffs and smeared chords over industrial tech beats. It's restless and kinetic and another dancefloor bomb. Last of all comes the wonky closer Stutter '(I)' which is full of trippy effects and freaky little synth motifs over squelching basslines.

Review: Jay Tripwire has popped up a lot recently, which is always going to be good news for fans of those freaky late-night tech sounds that he is so well known and loved for. He kicks off Serenity's fifth release here alongside Jehr on 'Magic Man', a deep cut underlapping drum funk and lots of whirring machine sounds. Parisian space techno talent Cyberduck then takes care of both tunes on the flip - firstly 'Arzach', a deep and dynamic cut that hurriedly scans a vast cosmic world with silvery drums and lush melodies. Then 'Cerclon' gets a little more edgy, with dark and nagging baselines moving up through the mix as the crisp, well-swung tech drums power along.

'Predators' is a barrelling and hard hitting cut with frosty bass lacerations and unrelenting drum funk overlaid by icy hi hats. It's perfectly physical warehouse music that comes with two flip side remixes. The Bad Boy Pete remix is hurried and hard techno heaven while the Chicago Loop remix is tense and menacing with retro-future video-game style synths flashing across the face.

Now he follows all that up with a firing four-track EP on Tread Records that again collides different club sounds, great samples and hooky melodies. 'Hatchet's Cave' is hands-in-the-air house euphoria with blistering drums and warped pads, then 'Move X' is a gritty tech bouncer and 'Compulsions' is a bubbly one with crisp hits. 'Light Spinner' opens up here with a real sense of paranoia in the bleeping sonar pulse and twisted drums. 'The Enigma' is an adventures cut with lots going on - woozy sci-fi pads, dusty breakbeats, progressive techno melodies and electro rhythms that make for a superb cosmic trip. 'The Cloverleaf' is a squelching mix of chilly synths and drum machine loops and then the old school trance tinged techno thumper 'Problematic/The Gate' is awash with neon colour. Two further cuts bring throwback techno references to the fore with excellent drum precision.

His music in solo mode is just as singer and hard to categorise as with his band and here on Mesh he veers between electronic, synthetic and organic sound worlds with driving breakbeats topped with gorgeous string sounds, hype-real synths and a shimmering sense of sonic futurism that is awash with melody. Review: Modal Analysis affiliates Pi Electronics welcome back Justin Broadrick in his JK Flesh guise for some industrial-focused techno abstraction outside the usual formulaic confines of the genre. The opening track has some guttural mono synth pulses guiding the deathly drum beat, but it's instantly noticeable how slow and sinister these rhythms are. The second track follows suit, as Broadrick's long-proven penchant for textural noise manifests around the squashed clamour of the kick. 'Track 3' is even more formidable as a low-tempo tool for nihilistic dance parties, but then Ancient Methods is on hand to flip the script with a slide back up the pitch range and a different approach to noise-led techno.

Over on side B, Joannes cannily combines booming sub-bass, loose-limbed house-style drums, deep pads and alien-sounding electronics on the decidedly intergalactic 'Love', before layering up waves of trance-inducing synth sounds and hypnotising riffs on the locked-in, late night excellence of 'Hate'.

'Making Me Dizzy' sees the Amsterdam-based producer add gorgeously ambient lead lines, lilting TB-303 motifs and funky bass to a classic Motor City techno groove, with the accompanying 'Dub Mix providing a heavier, sweatier and more intoxicating alternative version. 'Tongue Twister' is jazzier and even more intergalactic, sitting somewhere between blissed-out Move D deep house and melodious techno. The dub that accompanies it is pleasingly deep, out there and effects-laden, escorting us even further into deep space. Tip!

Me Liga (8:51)
Review: The party people behind the Sheik N Beik crew kick on with another fine techno exploration here courtesy of The Josh Craig. This is our first brush with this artist but a fine one it is too with classic techno melded with new school ideas to great effect. 'Quantum Infiltration' opens up with thumping kicks and busy synth lines burrowing deep into your brain then 'Ultra Rogue Mission' has a darker and harder vibe with moody pads and ice col hi-hats. There is a sublime deepness to the dubby 'Millenniaapi' and '2099' is like the soundtrack to a post-apocalyptic disaster movie. 'Me Liga' is a mutant techno percolator for the heads.

Vedanta (Paul 90 Basement mix) (6:51)
Review: This record is named after Vedanta, an ancient philosophy based on the Vedas, the sacred scriptures of India. The music, originally composed and produced by Joseph S Joyce and later remixed by Sebastian Mullaert of Minilogue, was greatly inspired, after reading commentaries from Swami Rama Tirtha's biography "The Scientist & Mahatma" - Chapter 1 - Vedanta and The Secret of Success. Now, some nine years later, it gets served up as a remix EP. There's a dark El Choop Reconstruct, a gorgeous ambient version from Sebastian Mullaert, a minimal headscape from Van Bonn, Federson SF goes warm and dubby and then a crisp, tech-edged vibe from Paul 90 ends the EP in style.

Review: With a name like the 'Bangers' series, one can only guess what you're in for. This is the eighth installment in the series from Terminal M, the German label run by techno fiend Monika Kruse. This four-track EP compilation - and there are many more where it came from - reinforces the most hardened cores of the German underground, whether they manifest as mystic darkside trance (Zajon's 'Fierce Pain') or verging-on-hardstyle apocalypses (Kaspar's 'Since 94').

Review: Sanderson Dear's Stasis Recordings released the original Time Capsule compilation in 2020 - a 20-track exploration of ten different ambient techno artists exploring two ideas each in compact form for a box set of 7"s. Now the label has revisited some of the project's standout moments and offered a chance to enjoy extended versions gathered on a single 12". From Maps Of Hyperspace shaping out atmospheric halls of synth work on 'Beta' to Glo Phase offering some gorgeous, sparkling grooves on 'Fire Flies', there's plenty of ground covered on this release. Of course the mighty John Beltran is a big drawer too, and his typically stellar 'The Descendent' doesn't disappoint in its full extended version.

Review: NYC based Onysia Records recently launched its sister label Convent for dub that it deems to be more heavy and edgy. This seance release is just that. Scientist vs anyone is going to be worth hearing. Scientist vs J Gabriel is about as good as it gets as, since making his debut, Gabriel has blurred the boundaries between electronic dub, deep house, dub techno and minimal. Here he's in full-on dub mode, with Scientist handling mixing duties for extra authenticity and a typically spaced-out sound. Mike Shannon and Deadbeat both step up on the flip-side to add their own delicious and hypnotic dub techno take.

Jonas Korbl - "Primal Grade" (6:24)
Review: Dynamic Reflection keeps up its impeccable run of form with a tasteful various artists EP featuring some innovative talents. Troy is first out of the blocks with the stripped-back and dubby techno energy of 'Yann' which locks you in with its loopy melodic riffs. Svarog & Ma-Gooch offers the much deeper and heady 'Spaces' with its groaning loops and super smooth linear drums. Luigi Tozzi follows a similarly economical path with the seductive bass and synth loops of the undulating and transcendental 'Haboob' which leaves Jonas Korbl to close out with 'Primal Grade.' Though still steeped in hi-fidelity sound design, this one hits harder with a more bulky low end and swinging bass.

Review: Jack Bags is back on La Sabbia with volume two of his Panorama Groove series. Once more he flies through a mutant mix of electro and techno in his own singular style. 'Another Acid' is first out of the blocks and layers up gurgling 303s with dark and sleazy vocals over a fat mid-tempo groove. 'Gently Glide' does just that with a more serene atmosphere, silky chords and ice cold drums - it's a super nice tune for late night grooving. Elsewhere are the likes of the grubby 'Ground Control', the Chicago jack of 'In My Mind', twisted and sludgy electro-techno motions of 'Operating Base' and the futurism of the more stripped back 'Underbush'.

Review: The sheer volume of material The Jaffa Kid puts out himself makes it tricky to keep up, but fortunately you can count on labels like Gated to offer a more manageable window into his sound. Taking elements from electro, breakbeat and electronica, Daniel Pringle surfs sinewaves and sequences to create heartfelt machine music with blood pumping in its circuits. Presented across double vinyl, this is a proper album experience which takes in starry-eyed chill-out, misfit acid techno, crunchy hardcore and much more besides. You might call it braindance, or you might just call it The Jaffa Kid.

Review: Second time around for Jean-Michel Jarre's 2022 album Oxymore, a loving tribute to French composer and 'music concrete' pioneer Pierre Henry. As the title suggests, this version features new remixes of album tracks (all of which feature sounds originally created by Henry) by a disparate group of musical talents. That makes for an interesting mix of interpretations, with armin Van Buuren's sizable trance translation of 'Epica' rubbing shoulders with a trippy, off-kilter electro take on 'Sex In The Machine' by Nina Kraviz, a moody Martin Gore interpretation of 'Brutalism', Irene Dresel's raw techno revision of 'Zeitgeist Botanica', and ambient pioneer Brian Eno putting his spin on 'Epica'.

Review: He might be in the autumn of his career but Jean Michel Jarre remains an innovator in the field of electronic music. His last album in 2022, Oxymore, was another pioneering exploration of rhythm and sound that has now been reworked alongside a series of collaborators all picked by the man himself. The nine-track selection brings wholly new perspectives to the originals which he calls "a vibrant collection of musical dialogues." An immediate standout for us is the track with Nina Kraviz which is crunchy, distorted minimal techno, while 'Epica Extension' with Brian Eno is laced up with otherworldly melodies. A great work from a mix of great artists.

Review: A bumper double LP of hyper modernist techno shrapnel from an all star cast of remixers working with JK Flesh's 2022 debut on KR3 records, 'Veneer Of Tolerance'. Prime cuts include Rrose's snarling, overtone-laden remix of 'Empty Words', with reese bass glissandos lacerated by a clattering percussion and hollow harmonics, London-Detroit superhighway technician Steve Bicknell's stroboscopic, swampy spin on 'Veneer Of Tolerance', and Samuel Kerridge's hotwired amen lengdown of the same track. And that's just the first three tracks! Trust us when we say there's something for every dark techno diehard in this one.

Review: The sixth album from JK Flesh, Sewer Bait is a slo-mo, lo-fi, noise-inflected journey through the dirtier, grittier side of techno. The opening track, 'Soaked to the Skin' is a corroded, corrupted chugger - pulsing demonically, brushing against increasingly rougher textures, this is a track where everything is obscured yet each component comes together to create a groove that is intensely hypnotic. The titular track 'Sewerbait' feels more closely aligned to the industrial techno tradition - slamming drums meet searing synths to create a track that is powerfully alluring. The final track, 'Washed Up', is driven by a relentless, propulsive core - like an engine revving up, this track feels ready to take off. JK Flesh has a masterful skill for making the rough shine and highlighting the delicate amongst the rubble.

Review: California's Joe Babylon has been steering his own Roundabout Sounds through some lovely deep house waters over the last few years. Now the producer makes a big statement with his own debut album. He is something of a veteran having co-founded Plug Research back in 1994 and hosted underground events in Los Angeles during the mid '90s. Following on from outings alongside the likes of Rick Wilhite and Rondenion he now brings his own dusty, carefully disheveled house sounds to the fore. They have been crafted using an MPC which gives them their rough-edged appeal and they go from heads down back room joints to dubbed-out minimalism via dream late-night reveries. It makes for a fresh take on a tried and tested house template.

Review: Juno Reactor are without much doubt, the most successful and important Goa and psy-trance related artist of the 90s. From 1993 to 2000, the band was in lock and step with the growing sound and scene across the world within trance music. This five-disc boxset gathers all five albums they made plus material they did for movies like Matrix and Mortal Kombat Annihilation. Composer, producer, musician and performer Ben Watkins is an essential innovator of modern electronic music. Over the course of nearly 30 years, Watkins has created a unique driving fusion of electronica, orchestral and global music executed on an epic & symphonic scale. Every trance and 90s electronic music fan should have this retrospect from this ground breaking act.

Review: Founded in 2014 by Dutch techno stalwarts Jasper Wolff and Maarten Mittendorf, AEX are at the top of their game when it comes to sourcing quality experimental techno, having already spent plenty time and effort on former efforts like Indigo Aera. Focusing on V/A compilations has helped them maintain constant freshness, and this whopping sixteenth edition to the series is no exception to that rule. Bowler-overs like Ivano Tetelepta's '20+20' collide neatly with tricky clackers like Malin's 'Trummer Dub', while the B-side is taken up by the label's founders on some dubbier excursions.
