Review: If you're on the look-out for suitably big, party-starting workouts that make liberal use of samples from classic cuts and slept-on disco gems, this five-track label sampler from Tasty Recordings is well worth checking. Vinny Terranova sets the tone with 'Let's Go People', a barnstorming funky house slammer that boasts samples aplenty from an Arrested Development classic, before Disko Junkie pitches up a Grover Washington Jr classic and turns it into a bumpin' disco-house number. Elsewhere, Discotron's 'De La Disco' is a nu-disco edit-not-edit of a 'daisy age' hip-hop classic, HP Vince's 'Oh My Love' is a disco-house take on Luther Vandross, and Fraser's 'Chicago 93' is a thickset disco-house slammer that uses the same disco samples as a famous funky house classic of the early 2000s.

Review: Tatsy Recordings is up to a fifth release and it wants you to sample what it is all about with this fine sampler. It kicks off with Disko Junkie's 'I Like To Party' which will indeed get you ready to party with its lavish grooves. A Nu Disco Mix of Discotron's 'September' then brings more good time feels with its colourful synths and vibrant rhythms. Flip it over and HP Vince has got the sauce with 'Got The Groove' with its loopy bass and classic samples, House Punkz then rework another super smooth soul sample into some disco house beats and Serial Thrilla end it all with the slamming 'More More More.'

Review: Kyle Hall makes another entry into the already fine discography of his Forget The Clock label with another fine four tracker. His usual raw style pervades from the off with the well swung drums and bumping kicks of the title track soon to get you in the groove. His signature diffuse synth work is what brings warmth and soul to the dusty drums of 'Track 2' while 'Sarabi' ups the pace with a more hurried groove and pent up sense of party joy. A second bonus track closes proceedings, with 'Track 4' layering up low slung drums and meandering cosmic leads to heady effect.

Review: Prince Fatty's 'Mercedes Benz' with Shniece and Horseman is a rub-a-dub version of a 1970s hit from Janis Joplin that now gets a very special pressing courtesy of Lovedub Limited. The A-side kicks off with the spine-tingling and epic original vocal before disappearing into a world of reverb. At that point the dubby low end arrives and brings a different vibe to the stunning vocals but one that really makes a mark next to new bars from Horseman, police sirens and funky riffs. It's a tough sound system groove that is backed with a fine version and has been a firm fixture of Prince Fatty's record box for a while now.

Review: The mighty and unmovable Toolroom offers up a snapshot of where it is at right now with a fifth volume of its Sampler series. The boss himself Mark Knight kicks off with a collaborative tune with Crusy: 'Daddy Shhh' is loopy, tribal, full flavour tech with jumbled drums and lots of buffed metal. Huxley's 'All I Need' is one of the UK producers warm house sounds, a smart vocal brings a sense of pain over simple but effective beats. Review: Almost two years have passed since the first Homecuts 12", a bouncy tech-house revision of Janet Jackson classic 'What Have You Done For Me Lately', starting popping up in stores, so this belated follow-up is undoubtedly long overdue. This time we're treated to two different tracks, both of which bolt bits of classic or forgotten cuts onto sturdy, sub-heavy tech-house grooves. A-side 'Body Dance' adds spoken word snippets to a weighty, thickset groove peppered with simple late-night melodic motifs, while 'Blind Eye' places post hip-house rap rhymes atop a far sleazier and more psychedelic backing track rich in mutant TB-303 motifs, angular-but-smooth bass and clicking drum machine percussion. Like the A-side, it sounds like a guaranteed mid-set winner.

After the first wave it cemented itself in the deeper end of the spectrum with artists like The Burrell Brothers being key to that success. Review: A couple of years back, the revitalised Hooj Choons label released an album of orchestra-sporting covers of classic dance cuts of the 1990s under the HEO: Hooj Ensemble Orchestra tag, then got rave revivalists Borai and Denham Audio to remix their new version of trance classic 'Cafe Del Mar'. Here those mixes - a frankly filthy, bass-propelled 'Rave Booty' mix and a more acid-flecked, grandiose breakdown-sporting 'Pluck Dub' - finally make it onto wax, alongside the Club Glow duo's similarly previously digital-only reworks of Transformer 2's early 90s 'Hooj' classic 'Fruit of Love'. More tactile and loved up, with tactile bass, pleasing pianos and glassy-eyed vocal snippets, the pair's 'Redux' mix is simply sublime, while Borai's solo dub is a deliciously dreamy, rush-inducing affair that sounds like a future rave classic.

Review: It is not often that Detroit pin up Kyle Hall steps away from his own label - or one of those in the 313 area code - but even when he does the quality levels remain high. Here he arrives on Apnea in Spain with a searing new outing that combines his signature house and techno sound into emotive club music. 'The Cosmic Touch' is a busy, punchy track with high speed beats and twisted cosmic synths while 'Colbalt' is an intense brew made from more fizzing lines, electrically charged motifs and unrelenting but flappy techno drums. Review: Ron Henderson released only one album with his Choice of Colour band, and that was Soul Junction in 1976. The North Carolina-based singer-songwriter has become an object of cult admiration over the years which is what might explain how an original of that album can often go for upwards of $800 at auctions. The 2020 P-Vine reissue soon sold out and included an extra single from 1983, 'Gemini Lady.' It is that which now gets pressed up to its own 7". It comes with the same label design as the original with a special jacket to make it even more of a collector's item.

Review: Brian Dougans continues to deliver nostalgic jams as Humanoid, the alias he used - pre Future Sound of London - for his acid house and techno inspired late 1980s productions. Like the rest of his Humanoid material for De:tuned, Sweet Acid Sound is forthright, funky and full-throttle stuff, with mind-mangling TB-303 lines and jacking TR-808 drums the order of the day. Dougans sets his stall out via the surging, far-sighted title track - which genuinely sounds like a long-lost turn-of-the-90s warehouse anthem - before doffing a cap to fellow UK acid house pioneers 808 State (and specifically their pioneering Newbuild anthem) on '808 Nation'. Over on side B, 'Roached' is a moody and spaced-out affair rich in ragged acid lines and intergalactic chords, while 'Si-Rak' is a raging, TB-303 heavy jack track that's almost guaranteed to blow your mind.

Review: A follow-up to last year's successful compilation 'Faith Presents: Ain't That A Groove', is given to us by the London-based label Faith ran by DJs Terry Farley, Stuart Patterson and Dave Jarvis. The high energy house party sound kicks off with Nolan who features the legendary house voice of Sir. Robert Owens. Hilit Kolet isn't shy with the extended remix of 'POV Siren'. This sound is synonymous with Feller and Heller DJ sets of the mid 90s. Philippa's extended remix of 'The Night' by Roach Motel backs that one up with another prime floor filler with hardly any let up. Lastly, Terry Farley, Wade Teo & Kameelah Waheed brings he deep groover "Dancing After Dark" to the party. These tracks will have you and the nightclub crowd out dancing all night.

Review: If the Balearic Islands are a physical place, then Balearic music is certainly the foremost concept in its adjacent ideaspace - it seems as long as Balearic music exists, there can be no further cultural exports from the Archipelago. Have A Nice Day are a mysterious collective of DJs and producers inspired by said sonic throughline, and they're determined to tap into it for as long as it exists. Review: Head High is a ling running alias of Polish techno producer Shed. It's for his more loopy and emotional sounds and has always been popular with DJs. This new EP is a mighty fine return that offers three track sou steamy, summer ready action for sunset and sundown sessions. 'Break Away' has fizzing synth lines and dusty drums with well placed vocals up top. 'Push It!' comes on much stronger, with harder drums and more prickly percussion but another fine vocal that adds that touch of emotion. Last of all is 'Chamber No 6', another dark cut with tightly programmed drums loops, scratching hits and a menacing bassline backlit by diffuse chords.

Review: Composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist Frank Harris has enjoyed a long and varied career. During the 1980s, he was one of the world's most esteemed Synclavier synthesiser programmers, and also recorded extensively with singer-songwriter Maria Marquez - though it took until 2019 for much of that music to be released (on the album Echoes). This 12" boasts fresh reworks of tracks from that set. Frankie Deluxe handles side A, first delivering a deliciously slow-burn revision of 'Loveroom' - all sparse, undulating synth melodies, whispers of percussion and beautiful lead vocals - before offering up a seductively summery shuffle through the samba-seeped shuffle of 'Down By The Rio'. That track is twice more remixed on the flip. First Frakas supplies a tactile, deep Balearic nu-disco tweak, before Julian Dyne offers up a deep, dubbed-out, slow-motion house take.

The US legend has been finding the most sensuous and emotive sounds for decades, not only as a producer but also as a label boss. Review: Hidden Spheres had some great and well deserved praise for his outing on Rhythm Section but now the Fruit Merchant label head is back to his own stand with some fresh and juicy offerings. 'Get Lover' is a big one - a classy dance floor banger with fat and bouncy bass, analogue cow bells, a rude vocal and plenty of old school rave stabs. On the remix is Manchester's don of the dance floor banger, DJ Absolutely Shit. His version makes more of the big piano energy with bright loops and dusty breaks.

Review: Japan's Kickin' series compiles rarities recorded for TK Records in the late 1970s, the latest example of which comes in the form of this dual-tracked gem by American disco singer Jeanette Holloway. Homing in on an extended project that has included the likes of KC & The Sunshine Band, Timmy Thomas, and George McCrae over the years, Holloway's contribution is incredibly bright, with the titular 'I Won't Be Around' boasting an impressive array of guitars, harmonies, and production crunch. 'You Got To Give A Little' is a far lesser known B-side, not yet known to the public but certainly one of equal potential to beguile.

Review: The Roulade label is doing things right - not only is the music they are serving up superb, but so to do this second 12" comes with great and original artwork. Its neon glow and diffuse light capture the vibes of the synths on the opening cut 'C'est Party' perfectly. It's a melodically rich tech house cut with rubbery bass and great spoken words from a world disco dancing competition. Occibel's 'Give 'Em Some Rest' is busy and dense with whirring sci-fi synths, funky Prince riffs, thudding house beats and plenty of colour. Add in two more equally vibrant and characterful cuts from Hearthug and Wooka on the flip and you have one of the most unique EPs we've heard in some time.

Review: Dutch label PIV is doing a fine job of evolving the contemporary house sound with its slick electronic take on the timeless genre. This next EP is a mouthwatering one that brings together two of the best - Frenchman Djebli and legendary West Coast tech innovator Hipp E. They find a perfect sweet spot between their sound with 'Fall Into Groove' fusing funk kissed synth funk goodness with lush rolling beats. 'Supa Star' is another tightly coiled and balmy number with atmospheric vocals and lively percussive energy. The flip brings 'Hang Around' with another perfectly catchy and super breezy house groove and a rework of the opener that has a more cosmic future feel.

Review: Have A Nice Day is an alias of an unknown producer or producers as well as being the name of their own fledgling label, H.A.N.D.. Balearische Grammophon 02 is its third release and it features two cuts which are unreleased and secret versions of an 80s anthem from Germany, namely 'Brother Louie.' They beef up the original with all new dancefloor clout but in very different ways. The b-side in particular is a weird and wonderful cut with narcotic overtones and beguiling rhythms. An absolute must for those DJs who want to wonk out a club.

Review: It's hard not to be a fan of Jay Tripwire if you like tech house. The man turns out a consistently excellent line in spaced out sounds that are masterful reduced to only their most core components. Here he steps up to work with John Howard on a pair of superb new tracks for Repeat. The opener, 'Shiva Needs Some Lovin,' is a mix of stiff drum work and coarse snares with more loose and fluid synths. The duality makes for an enticing groove that takes you off amongst the stars. 'Boom Boom' then gets more down the business with hefty, raw drums landing heavy under reverberating leads as drunken bass falls about the mix.

Review: Picnic tends towards flaunting the eclecticism of the British underground, standing in stark opposition to conformity. B Love, Rokko, Mathijs Smit and Herra come through for their latest V/A here, each with their own unique style and flavour to the four-way table - whether they work in deep house, techno, or the cheekier side of speed-garage-ambient. Review: Jerome Hill is having a fine year - back in February he turned out his superb Flow Mechanics album on Hypercolour and now he is back on Super Rhythm Trax with a fire four-track electro and house outing. The opener 'The Warning' is a prickly one with acidic lines and raw, chattering claps making for a menacing vibe. 'Harlesden Shuffle' (extended 12" Disco mix) is then a wonky disco-tinged minimal cut with Wagon Repair-style synth leads and plenty of acid stabs. There is plenty of bite to the jacked-up B-side cut 'Combustion Zone' then 'House Thing' rounds out with early Chicago vibes, dusty drums and naughty basslines.

Review: HI LO has had some huge collabs with Filth On Acid boss Reinier Zonneveld and now makes a step up to Adam Beyer's mighty Drumcode with more of his maximal techno sounds. 'Crescendo' is a raw slammer with hard edge and raw drums hitting hard beneath incendiary hi-hats and flashes of bright synth and twisted acid. It's a main room weapon of the highest order. Review: Heart People is a new project from long-time Australian underground operative Ryan Grieve and Rachel Rutt, and on this record for Pinchy & Friends they sail towards Balearic tones aplenty across four dream state cuts for sun-down, sun-up or any hour in between. 'In Your Eyes' breezes along on the smoothest of rhythm sections, draped in the lilt of acoustic guitar and guided by Ruth's heavenly voice. 'Adriatica' is a pitch-perfect cast adrift into cascading synths, flute motifs and reverb-soaked bongos, all the better to float away to. 'Secrets' explores 80s drum machine meditation and sampledelia, while 'Angel' takes on a more mysterious tone with a hint of Cocteau Twins woven in for good measure.

For the very first edition of the series, a mockley crew of newcomers come to the fore, be they DJ Moar, Disco Flegrei or Holdtight. Centring on woozy jazzdance and disco with an airily produced bent, the highlights on this one have to be Flegrei's 'Titamesque', which basks in a kind of sexy sophistry procured by the heady combination of live drums and a (we think) muted bass clarinet, and Yured Jones' 'Far Away', which breaks from the genre prescription for a more cinematic breakdown.

Review: Satya deals in a certain brand of deep house that is dreamy and organic. It's perfect for the cosier dancefloors out there, the more heady crowds who don't need big drops and samples to get their musical thrills. If you are one of those people then get your ears around this superb new various artists 12". YokoO & Zone+ offer one of the standouts with 'Once I Had It"]' which pairs subtly swirling pads with cuddly deep drum loops. Hermanez has his kickstand with a little more weight but they are no less hypnotic, while Moya (US) brings some enchanting strings and yawning vocals to 'Meliora' and Electricano keeps it nice and warm and liquid with the supple loops of 'Universal Language.'

Review: Kyle Hall treats us to a new and special pressing of his standout Equanimity EP which was last reissued back in 2020. This one comes on limited edition translucent teal vinyl and was initially put out to mark the ten-year anniversary of Detroit native Hall's own Wild Oats label. In that decade he has established it as one of his hometown's finest for dusty deep house explorations. The four tracks on it are just that with a whimsical melody over bumpy beats on the opener, then more zoned-out beats on '4wrd Motion' and glitchy kicks and hits on 'No More Moon'. Last of all is the star-gazing cosmic house of 'Ghosten 4 A 2nd X'. A timeless EP for sure.

Review: Who or what is or are Henk Donkers? We don't know, and we don't care, cause the music they make is bang on. This new and amusingly entitled EP arrives via the always cultured Wolf Music and is immediately effective. Henk Donkers X Ell Murphy's 'Without You' is classic house with depth and drive, soulful vocals and nice sustained chords. 'Dope' is more intense for the strobe lit late night hours and then its back to balmy and loved up grooves with the busy chord work of New Jersey style house kicker 'With You'. This varied EP is not done yet, as closer 'Pink Horse' explores another sone - dusty downbeat house with noodling chords that recall early Mood Hut tunes.

Review: The Sound Migration label takes another trip back in to the CATT articles to explore the proto-trance and early bleep techno sound they were pushing from 1988-1991. Another five essential gems from the modestly sized catalogue get an airing here, kicking off with Confidential's haunting 'Amphibious Carbine' followed by the boxy pressure of Exocet's 'Nitrogen'. This is astounding stuff throughout, not least the freak-zone trip of Holy Ghost's 'Walking On Air', which sounds like the common denominator between Ibiza and Goa in their nascent days as party destinations. Don't sleep on the clattering funk of Exocet's 'Overdose' either, a seriously snappy groover with all kinds of oddball sampling going on.

Review: Echoes of Glory serves up a second helping with the assistance of Hardway Brothers and Masonic Noodles aka Sean Johnston and label founder Grant Dell. 'Escape On The Midnight Express' gets two tidy tech house versions with distinct flavours which should appeal to those who like their 4/4 grooves tripped-out and headsy. The Hardway Bros version is a pneumatic, boxy workout swathed in dub and rolling slow and steady for the warm-up crowd, while Dell's Masonic Noodles interpretation takes a sparser approach sprinkled with mystical synth motifs to send a chill through the dance.

Review: Savage Garden's Darren Hayes returned from the wilderness in 2022 after a hiatus of almost ten years. During that time, he tried his hand at stand up comedy, kept a social media presence in the form of shared videos featuring him bursting into song, and evidently spent a fair amount of time recharging. After all, you don't make albums with the energy of Homosexual, the comeback piece, if you're running on empty.
Let's Try Being In Love was the first single taken from that, and in many ways the whole package is more about message than music - a guy publicly celebrating his sexuality and marriage after spending a very long time not feeling ready to do so, during a period in which he was a bonafide global pop star. Here said track appears in both 12" extended form and a Louis La Roche mix, both of which are made for chugging dancefloors, filtered tracking synths firing on all cylinders and an overall sense of self.

Review: Despite having been on a journey in music that has lasted two decades, Honeydrop shows with this very welcome return to the scene that they very much have still got the skills to pay the bills. This most classy of EPs opens with 'That's What', a dreamy minimal house cut with exquisite pads bringing the cosmic feels. 'Can You Please' has a nice skip to the kicks and molten chord work then 'Do What' picks up the pace a little but never sacrifices the gorgeous, deft synth details that make these tunes such works of art. 'Lapadub' closes down in more marching but still serene tech house fashion. An incredible return for Honeydrop.
