Review: Tel-Aviv-based label Tofistock helped shape out their sound with the first volume of Hyper Love in 2021, and now they return with another round of fun and feisty club tracks which speak to the Israeli love affair with psy-trance while offering a modern context for the sound. Babylon X takes a richly melodic approach which fuses big synth pads and sweet 303 lines with a smart, pulsing drop for a proper gear shift when you want to lock a crowd in even deeper. Asphalt DJ & Gzardin have a whale of a time with the punchy, pumping pressure of 'Sweaty Ride' while MYKI & Matris keep it turned up to the peak time with a catchy, vocal-speckled workout. For our ears though you need to make sure you check Tantra Motion's dreamy 'To U', which tips over towards heady machine soul for the subtler corners of a set.

Review: The Blind Vision label celebrates five years in the age with a nice look back at some of its Hidden Treasures From The Past. Big Al gets underway with an immediatly catchy and dubbed out, stripped back and cool-as-you-like groove in 'If Only' (Silverlining dub). Fred Everything & Jay Tripwire then link to sublet effect on the US garage groove that is 'Sometimes I Feel' with its liquid dub chords and steamy trumpet motifs, and Grant Dell goes for a deep cosmic workout on 'Being There.' Last of all is the chunky house funk of Inland Knights's 'Hands Up', a real dance floor heater with atmospheric vocal musings.

Stilleben label head Luke Eargoggle says that three generations of Scandinavian electro sounds feature on the six track record. It comes from producers based only in Gothenburg which is the capital of electro in Sweden as well as being the capital of the Vastra Gotaland county. From the high energy and hard-hitting electro-funk of Dataintrang's opener to Guttan's more cinematic but no less caustic 'Bambakaos', all shades are explored here with compelling results.

Review: Coming in hot after last year's Pura Lempuyang compilation is this new two part 12" offering up cuts from it on limited edition turquoise wax. Dib kicks off with 'Cieloterra' which is a devilishly deep and dubby techno cut with fizzing synths running across its face. Federsen is much more smooth and silky with liquid pads and a sublime sense of frictionless groove to his 'Random Motion' while Grad U offers more heavy and stumbling dub quakes on 'From The Shadows.' Last of all is Altone's 'Emergent Structure,' a lush minimal excursion with deft hits and feathery pads over sublime drums.

Review: Four house and techno producers contribute to the Ninja Tools series by Lumbago, who specialise in various artists compilations with a minimal breaks aesthetic. Like lightspeed shurikens in flight, 'Ninja Tools Vol 6' is their latest: its four tracks span the spitty ('Jetpack') to the weighty and euphoric ('Altered Dimension'), aiming squarely for a certain emotional in-beween place. Together they totally nail that purgatorial interzone between trance, ambient techno and minimal breaks.

Review: Nation of Jak offshoot Dirty Blends was established by label chief Melvin Oliphant as a vehicle for "interpretations" and "homages" - in plain-speak hush-hush reworks, tribute tracks and those that sample liberally. The label's latest release is a compilation of sorts, featuring as it does cuts from a trio of artists. The Falcon steps up first with title track 'Sound The Alarm', a raw, jacking, bouncy and positive mind-melding blend of lo-fi synth stabs, sweat-soaked beats, fire alarm noises and restless drum machine fills. Over on side B, Grizzly Knuckles' 'Mad Bell' - a breathless, house tempo techno workout built around a nagging synth-bell loop - is followed by label regular The Jak's 'Aftermath', which sits somewhere between jacking lo-fi techno, UK funky and stab-happy Soca-house.

Review: Some techno classics earn their status with the barest of elements - and that's absolutely true of G-Man's 'Quo Vadis'. Originally released by ex-LFO man Get Varley in 1995, it's a devastatingly simple premise of a stark, subtly swung beat and funked up dub techno chord trimmed down to a fine point. That's pretty much all that's needed to render a timeless favourite which will do the damage on any floor, whether it's a big room techno situation or a push-on-through tech house marathon you're faced with. On this reissue for Back To Life we also get a remix from Frank Kusserow on the flip, which wisely retains the fundamental essence of the track and just gives it some chunkier drums.

Review: Romanian label Playedby is dropping a couple of EPs in quick succession and this one from G76 is a leftfield one. It features the same track split over two sides of wax in two parts. 'Volume Figure' (part 1) is the sort of abstract work that you might get from Ricardo Villalobos - silvery and filtered vocals bring a sense of AI futurism to clicking beats and wispy sine waves. The rhythm grows in stature as wet claps and snares join the mix, and on the flip side, it turns into a more gritty and propulsive tech house cut for late-night afters.

Review: Earlier in the year, Barcelona-based Uruguayan Jorge Gamarra (also known as Ecstatic) debuted his Transmigration series on Spanish label Future Tones. For this second volume, he's switched to the freshly minted Dance Floor Rituals label. As with its predecessor, it showcases far-sighted slabs of dancefloor futurism that draw much influence from classic sci-fi techno, electro, early UK tech-house and, to a lesser degree, early 90s bleep & bass. Gamarra giddily skips between sub-heavy sci-fi electro ('Mechanistic Nature'), spacey and melodious widescreen techno ('System Self'), acid-splattered starburst jack-tracks (the formidably sweat-soaked 'Seat of Mind') and warming machine soul (the bleeps, organ stabs and supernova synths of 'Conscious Machinery').

Review: Welcome to the world Echoes of Glory, a brand new label that makes its first foray here, and what an inaugural EP it is too. It comes in the form of a split between Carlo Gambino and Dahbar who take one track each, with two mighty remixers all on duty. 'Kyo' is a rubbery deep hue cut with some well-placed samples that bring the soul. Dahbar then offers up 'Depilada' which is a more pumping tech cut. Radioactive Man then steps up with a fine remix that heads into deep and moody electro territory. Last of all, fellow electro don Carl Finlow adds his spin to 'Depilada' which is all silky lines and shimmering pads.

Review: Jason Garcia, A Garcia, and M Kretsch all get the nod on this new 'Family Values EP from the Cryovca label. The techno trip finds some superb common ground in uncommon sounds here with 'Stuck In Purgatory' kicking off in urgent fashion with bumping rubbery drums and eerie pads. 'Iichabod' then slips into deep and rolling dub techno territory and 'Rock The Dance Bah' brings some playful bass guitar loops to a snappy rhythm. 'Stillgar' shows yet another look - gritty, subterranean techno full of suspenseful pads. There is plenty of real innovation across these four fantastic cuts.

Review: After debuting on Kaizenrecordsberlin back in 2020, Gauvain finally makes a second appearance with this sure-footed EP for Shaque & DJ Tjizza's Berlin-based label Mood Waves. There's a sense of the trancey tech house scene in the playful threads running through these tracks - cheeky synth lines with a little wriggle to them and plenty of ear-catching samples. 'Suspended Animation' is an especially flamboyant cut, but really they're all out to bring a little naughtiness to the dancefloor and inspire some sharply defined figures to be thrown. Even when things get moodier on 'The Pier, 1962', there's an irrepressible sense of fun which leaves a lasting impression.

Review: G76 is on an absolute roll at the moment, as the Romanian producer fails a collaboration with Zefzeed and the pair present their Gef project. This is minimal at its best, loaded with intrigue and weight to bring the steady-trucking, sustained grooves to life. 'Get Up' is a swinging, dubby workout with plenty of bump and more than a hint of sass in its sonic choices, while 'Oscillator' takes a tougher approach thanks in no small part to the looming bass tones floating underneath. 'Happy Birthday' is a swampy, heads-down joint for when the edges of the night are getting a little blurry, and 'Quiz' shakes things up with some positively dirty synth action bearing its presence down on anyone caught in front of the soundsystem.

Review: Swedish talents Genius of Time are back on Aniara Recordings sublabel Verktyg with more of their one-take live jams. There are two of them on this 12" and the first is a dusty odyssey where house and techno meet. The groove is delightfully fluid, with dubby bass and coarse hits all topped off with sustained chords that bring the soulful hook. 'Track 2' on the flip is a little less heads down and locked in - it's more airy, with a lighter synth lead and magnificently well-swung drums that are rubbery and full of air. Both cuts are stylish and stripped-back sounds that brim with infectious charm.

Review: Genius Of Time is a long standing partnership between Dorisburg and Arkajo that has yielded a stream of essential deep house releases reaching back to 2010. After recently returning with the Secret Tapes 12" for Verktyg, they're now shoring up on Aniara for the first time in six years with a four-tracker that reminds us why they're held in such high regard as a production partnership. 'CS70 House' is an infectious, uplifting joint with the titular synth enjoying pride of place at the front of the mix, while 'Stream' offers a deep and dubby excursion for those subtler moments in the mix. '909 Day' is a warm and moody affair with a punchy bassline you could sink your teeth into, and 'Lurar I Skuggan' heads into crunchier techno territory without losing that relaxed flavour that the duo are known for.

House and electro are his bread and butter but his ability to speak through his machines elevates everything he does to all new labels. Frame Of Mind is home to this latest EP and it launches with the metallic drum chatter, analogue aesthetics and cosmic house bump of 'Kosmos Tour' before exploring lovely lazy deep house on 'Red Girl', dancefloor darkness on 'Videophonic' old school Virgo-esque Chicago sounds on 'Fractalz'. Review: Roger Gerressen is one of those artists, along with the likes of Plastikman and Maurizo, say, who can craft a loop so perfect that it's almost enough to just let it play for days. Here he works with Jonah on a new one for Muted Noise that finds him layer up more fulsome arrangements, at least to start with on the pained 'The Come Down' with its nagging vocal coos and melancholic chords. A Halo Varga remix is more driving and club ready tech, then 'Be Who You Want' is a delightfully deep, delicate and dubbed-out house cut with silky vocals and pillowy chords. Ion Ludwig Think You're Free remix again ups the pace and makes the original a more deriving tech cut.

Review: It's a classic old school taunt that, to be fair, has stood the test of time, but now Get A Life is also a red hot new minimal label and eponymous production outfit. We cannot tell you any more than that about who or what might be behind these beats so let's get stuck right in: 'Music PPL' is both playful and funky but fresh with fresh old school Madonna samples and a slick groove. 'Shootin' is another full flavour sound with more deft sampling and a nice undulating and loopy groove while 'I Love You' is a tech house offering embellished with bleeping melodies and fractured female vocals. 'They Do' is the best of the lot - a stripped down and airy late night minimal groove.

The Frenchman has enjoyed many different career chapters from his early days as head of Freak N Chic to his part of the acclaimed Apollonia trio and all alongside solo work as a DJ and producer. Review: This is one of two reissues the excellent Det 313 label is dropping to start off its new year right. Gigi Galaxy's 'Interview With An Alien' dropped first way back in 1996 and is an atmospheric bit of deep and pulsating techno with warm, surging basslines and sleek synth work that brings the machine soul as a vocal adds extra cinematic heft. On the flipside of this 12" is a Delano Smith remix that finds the Detroit mainstay sink into one of his seductive and deep grooves where techno and house combine. Swirling pads add extra scale to this most heady of rollers.

Review: There's a nicely meditational vibe to Camilo Gil's 'Skydream', gliding along with a hint of breakbeat sidewinding to its beat and some deep jungle (as opposed to junglist) atmospherics. The Jef K & St Jhons remix turns it on its head, making it sturdier and adding swagger, not to mention a dash of 80s synth flourish here and there. Rodrigo Valdivia's 'Acid Rain' has a similarly global feeling to it, extra dimensional ambient house with proper tribal rhythm foundations remixed into even spacier territory by Peter F Spiess.

You can hear Niles Rodgers' production touch all over the source material on this one, as the Giralda team get busy in the lab creating the smouldering, perfectly formed 'Spacer (Edit)'. Sepp joins in on the fun for the Tent 4 re-edit, which brings some tougher ingredients to the blend if you need to jack the party up a touch. As a veteran of Aphex's label, the Goon has proven himself to be gifted in the art of off-kilter electro more than enough over the years.
