Review: There is a great backstory to this new one on Blue Hour: when Stockholm producer, DJ and promoter Maya Lourenco aka Parallax Deep was digging for music in the local Snickers Record store, she found two classic goa and psy trance tracks that particularly interested her. As such she snapped them up, took them home and began to work on her own distinctive edits of them, rearranging sections, cutting up bits and adding extra details while never getting too far away from the essence of the originals. Her edits of those two originals - 'Gobi Desert' by 100th Monkey & Tristan from 1995 - and 2000's 'Bunker' by Four Carry Nuts - are pressed up here and both sound brilliant.

Review: The Jungle referencing Valley Of The Shadows series from Hague outpost Creme Organization was launched earlier this year with the aim of halting some of the fragmentation that afflicts the underground. Given this first 12" has experienced severe pressing delays, maybe the underground should crowd source the financing of some fresh vinyl pressing plants? Regardless of that VOTS001 finds Creme joining forces with their Amsterdam-based compadres to present a two track transmission from 2AMFM, aka Nation pair Tadd Mullinix and D'Marc Cantu. The tumbling Axel F goes Jakbeat vibes of "Starfist Lazerbeam" are particularly good here! Watch out for future collaborations with LIES and upstarts Berceuse Heroique.

Review: Italian ensemble 291out are known for many things, though it's their love of dadaist ideas and mind-bending jazz-funk fusion that linger in the memory. They rather enjoy collaborating with others, too. Having previously released a hook-up with Bop on Early Sounds, they've now joined forces with Ivan "Flyme" Cibien as 291outer space. The result is a deliciously out-there and intergalactic set of sparkling, synth-laden epics that variously draw inspiration from Italian futurism, jazz-funk, classic sci-fi, organic house, ambient jazz soundscapes and cosmic disco. To enhance the EP's star gazing credentials, closing cut "Criogenesys" features a spoken word vocal that tells the (imagined) tale of a particularly memorable voyage into deep space.

Review: Word on the street is that Commix are the major power behind this scorching release on Super8 Sound. "Company Flow" is a deep mystical humming workout, with sharp beats over a massive rolling b-line giving this one major dancefloor appeal. Review: Tough asparagus themed drum tracks for the culinary minded vinyl DJs out there on volume 4 of Don't Be Afraid's annual series that celebrates the fact that Record Store Day shares calendar space with the first day of the British Asparagus Season. Those who indulged in last year's inaugural pair of releases will be pleased as asparagus punch that Slazenger's People are once again involved, whilst the cuts from Freeman, Club Paranoia and 48v Spargel Brothers, the three series newcomers, demonstrate that quality control remains as high too. Indeed opening cut "Bitten" from the latter bumps with the kind of sweat inducing authenticity that many a current budding house producer could do well to sit through and take notes.

Review: Averaging a release a year since launching 2016, super cool silky disco label Noire & Blanche kick into a new year nice and early with their biggest release to date; a full-bodied six-tracker from some of wryest of artists. Smooth, dusky jams in all directions, highlights include previous Noire & Blanche wiseguys such as Tell, who follows up his last EP with the near P-funk levels of groove on "Endless Love", and Folamour who goes all out orchestral disco on "I Know It Has Been Done Before". Review: After a successful first round that featured the likes of Kassem Mosse alongside Juniper and some lesser known friends of the label, Manchester promoters-turned-imprint Meandyou are back with another various artists release that plumbs further depths around the fringe pools of house and techno. Aatropa & Tephillin deliver the most upfront cut in "Bells Jam", which still lurks in oddball synth flourishes around a chunky thud of kick drum, before Fabric drifts out into ambient bliss. Herron meanwhile plies a long lead-in before blossoming into a dexterous and delicate broken techno formation of the highest order, and then Metropolis cools things back down with a winsome groan of a beatless excursion.

Review: The Allstars compilation series from Tempa has proved a fine litmus test of the UK underground since it was launched in the heady early days of dubstep circa 2003. An eighth volume rounds out Tempa's 2015 business and this broadly diverse selection is proof enough that bass music is in fine health. Following his superb debut LP for Tectonic, Acre opens the doublepack with the stuttered, swung sound design of "Messages", and from here Tempa run the gamut of the UK bass scene. Epoch lays down raw and doomy steppa vibes with "The Vile", Cliques offers up futuristic footwork of "Aut" whilst both Youngsta & Distance and Biome bring the 140BPM heat.

Review: Visionist's Lost Codes label gets rebooted as a new sublabel to PAN, laying down some foundations ahead of the UK artist's long-mooted debut album for the Berlin label. Overseen by both Visionist and PAN founder Bill Kouligas, the first Codes release brings together two artists who have previously excelled on Lost Codes in Acre and Filter Dread. Working together for the first time, the six track Interference suggests this is a deadly partnership that should be given the platform to express itself further. Degraded 8bit sounds permeate opener "Drumz34" which comes across like early Actress played at the wrong speed, whilst sickeningly good sub bass is deployed on "Flash Speed" and "Trashed" is a superb exercise in slack jawed drum programming. Some cavernous bass kicks on this one. "Life" is wonderfully slippery in full flow, whilst "Unknown" is up there with Gramrcy's "Ruffian" in the heavyweight contenders of the year stakes.

Review: Mumdance recently said he approached Fabric himself with the idea of doing a mix for their iconic long-running fabric live series and it's a good thing he did as his Fabriclive 80 was an eye-popping journey through experimental electronics, weightless club music and old hardcore favourites. The producer also managed to secure a ton of exclusives for the mix, two of which feature on this second and final 10" sampler. Up first is Mancunian bass heavyweight Acre whose " No Signal" sounds all the more hefty removed from its original context in Fabriclive 80, whilst New Zealand sonic explorer Fis is at his degraded best on the speaker shattering "Branch Light".

Review: FJAAK is of course the powerhouse behind spandau20, a record label, mixtape series and events that, they say, "revolves around the connection between people and the dancefloor." This new drop on the imprint is a potent one first brought to life by Elli Acula with his ravey and edgy 'Bff.' Claus then goes for something that aprs the mind with its twisted leads and unrelenting linear funk on 'Vape Nation' and finally FJAAk themselves step up with 'Tek Tek Tek'. It's tense and dense techno thumper with the biggest kick drums you've ever heard all cut up by razor sharp hi hats and booming bass. Add in some clipped vocal stabs and you have an all out techno party starter.

Review: EPM20 Ep2 goes off on an electro tangent here. On this one, we have veteran producer Cisco Ferreira aka The Advent teaming up with his son Zein on the ferocious electro dystopia of "Strangeform" and as if that was not enough, another legend, the one and only Carl Finlow appears next with the abstract, cybernetic beats of "Optogenetic". Over on the flip, we have someone by the name of Detroit's Filthiest (quite an accolade!) who is in fact Motor City stalwart Julian Shamou (Motor City Electro Company) known for his work as 313 Bass Mechanics or Digitek, and longstanding hero of the Midwest Freddie Fresh should need no introduction; his contribution here under the Modulator alias is the deep mind IDM journey "Promars".

Review: It is no mean feat to last 10 years no matter your business, but to do so as a record label in this day and age is worthy of maximum respect. Fair play to Det Gode Selskab then for marking the occasion with a tidy new 12" that showcases just what the label is all about. There is chunky tech with grinding bass but lush old school melodies on 'Can't Cure Curiosity' while Alex Jangle & Matztam's 'Glowbones' cuts totally loose on dreamy synth daubs, painterly lines and rubbery house loops. Faer takes a more dark, heads-down path for his spooky 'Serious Repetions' and as you would expect of Deadbeat & The Mole they bring off-kilter loops, unbalanced drums and a ramshackle rhythm that will have you shaking your bones.

Review: The newly minted Wilson imprint come brandishing a steadfastly enthusiastic keep vinyl alive approach, warning people on their site to "play it on vinyl or don't play it" and their debut release shows an equal respect for the true production values founded in Chicago and Detroit. The Underground Warriors EP pairs the old and trusted with the new and exciting as respected producers Alex Agore and Washerman share space with the upcoming Italian duo Fabio Monesi and Luca Ballerini. Naturally the contributions from the Berlin dwelling Agore and Swiss producer Washerman demonstrate a clear level of accomplishment, with the former's "Stalker" dripping with emotive intent. Don't discount the tracks from the lesser known duo however with "Momma' Groove" from Monesi an excellent drum machine workout complemented by oven warm pads.

Review: Dario Brkic is AIROD, a Parisian producer and DJ with a passion for electronic and techno music who has launched his own label Elixyr Records. He unleashes tracks on the harder fringes of club music on the Last Of Us, and he's even joined by some of his contemporaries. AIROD signals the death of euphoria on the pummeling peak time fury of the title track, which receives a strobed-out trance rendition by Spain's Regal. Review: A re-release of the duo's 2003 classic, originally housed on the now defunct label, Vulture, French label Kitsune have done the world a favour in reincarnating this tried-and-tested classic. An expertly-composed track, it comes as no surprise to learn that both Braxe and Falke's musical roots can be traced back to their classical training - Braxe learnt clarinet and cello from an early age, and Falke began his journey into music as a bass player before moving onto production. The pair's deep musical understanding, which goes beyond the tenets of production, can be felt in their instinctive understanding of melody. 'Love Lost', in its emotionally rousing structure and playful percussive elements, is a striking example of the French duo's outstanding collaborative work.

Review: Albert "Alchemist" Thompson's Promise Land comes courtesy of Freestyle Records and has great appearances on the mic from reggae and dancehall greats Frankie Paul, Joseph Cotton, Prince Malachi and Anthony John. It has never before been released and has had a long maturation period over the last 30 years. Albert Thompson was chief engineer at I&I Sound Recording Studio once it left LA and head to Jamaica and he saw work with greats like Dennis Brown, Bunny Wailer and Gregory Isaacs. He laid down these rhythms in 1991 during some downtime and then added the vocals 16 years later in London when working with talented local and touring Jamaican artists.

Review: Following some standout solo releases from Rodhad and Recondite, the Dystopian camp take the various artists approach for their fourth release. First on the list is Alex Do, a young DJ who has evidently found kindred spirits in the Dystopian crew, and this EP provides the chance or them to showcase his debut production, "Concrete", a minimalistic combination of rigid kicks and claps, together with eerie morse code bleeps. Dystopian regular Rodhad returns with "The Wall", a fairly epic track which revolves around a slowly swelling tide of monotone synth horns which grow to monolithic proportions. However, the EP's standout moment belongs to Felix K, who leaves the experimental D&B stylings of his usual releases behind for a clattering 4/4 roller filled with his usual blend of tough beats and gentle ambience.

Review: With previous appearances from talents such as D. Tiffany, Iron Curtis and Priori, Canadian label 00:AM bring you their fourth various artists compilation. On the A side of 00AM 004, they roped in two artists that they've have had the pleasure of hosting in Montreal over the past couple years: the inimitable DJ Fett Burger, who gives Copenhagen's Alfredo92 (Axces) a woozy slo-mo acid rework of his 'Tente Hjul' (XB3711 F3 Remix). This one is perfect tackle for getting weird at the afterhours. On the flip it's clearly more of a dub techno affair, and where this EP really got us moving and grooving: Vancouver's Elan Benaroch aka ESB with the rolling and hypnotic "Sequential Dub", followed by the glacial and cavernous thump of "Immune" by 2wo2imes taking you deeper into the Quebec winter frost.

Review: The newly established London Housing Trust label inaugurate proceedings with a various artists 12" featuring contributions from Cynic artist Jamie Blanco alongside the previously unheralded Alphonse, Fx Mchn and Facade. It's unclear who the latter are but inside info suggests it's three well known artists operating incognito, but don't let this wilful obscurism put you off as each track here is optimum analogue house at its finest. The Fx Mchn contribution "Jackie" is particularly beguiling, touching on jagged punk funk as much as late 80s house with echo laden vocals smudged deep beneath a delightfully rubbery bass line and buccaneering, malfunctioning drums for six minutes. A promising debut from the label!

Review: BOOM! Our favourites, Cititrax, roll the third editions of Tracks out onto our shelves, and the results are unsurprisingly strong on this excellent various artists comp. It's a mixed bag of skills, as per usual, and the sounds are those of a new NYC, fuelled by a new sort of post-industrial sensibility. Amato Y Mariana open with the tight beats and groove of "Queires Bailar", followed closely by the ominous compositions of the EBM-flavoured "Montgat" from The Sixteen Steps. On the flip, His Dirty Secrets bleeps out some morphed acid on "Structures", and "Another Stranger" from Further Reductions churns out a slow, mild-mannered house experiment with its roots clearly planted in the coldest of waves. Review: Industrial strength D&B futurism from Amoss. First up "Oxide", a sinewy co-lab with Dutch artist Fre4knc. Both acts complementing each other's stark, minimal styles, the slow-burning fire ignites with murmuring sound design and outer planetary processes before dropping into an understated grunting groove. Meanwhile on B, Amoss go it alone with two iceberg bangers: "Hold Back" leans heavily on super-sized tribal drums that weave the lead melody which is mirrored by the waspy bass beneath. "Skittles" is more of a straight-up roller where a tightly clipped bassline does all the white-knuckle driving, deftly navigating through Amoss's trademark eerie, misty sonic constructions.

Review: Few countries do minimal better than the Romanians, and it has been that way now for well over a decade. PhonicHouse1 is one of the more recent labels to emerge from the country, and this is its fourth release. It takes the form of a collaborative EP between Anas M and Farid Odibekov with a couple of tasty remixes. 'Dozhd' is first up and is a nice languid and loose tech house groove with bulbous synths and dry drums. Mikhu makes it a much fuller sound with myriad cosmic details then 'Sneg' is a pumper with farting bass sounds and snares encircling you on the dance floor. A Vern remix is filled with pent up but coy funk and bubbling arps.

Review: OHM is quickly becoming a quality imprint you can count on for techno and dub techno. The ninth addition in the series, it calls for an excellent blend of composers to balance this EP out. Veteran Jamie Anderson collabs with the brilliant Owain K on opener. The 'Aqua Dub' builds a euphoria for late night smiles. Smooth is an understatement on this linear gem. One artist on here that's been making strong appearances on many dub techno labels is the ever-talented Francisco Aguado. 'Balance' is a great tribal transition track for any DJ who can it creatively to build the means to an end. On the second side, Star Dub offers the very addictive and techy 'Forst'. Review: Time Horizon's second episode enlists another team of dancefloor snipers delivering 5 brain-dancing tunes crafted appositively for late night use. After his appearance on the first XCPT record, Andrea is back on the label with his unmistakable shuffling drums and a heavy square bassline followed by Anybody Anytime covering the uptempo-zone with a rotative junglistic tool dressed with celestial pads; closing the A side TANS reveals his new robot alias The Sympathizer providing a neurotic electro progression fully based on his modular system. Flipping the records you will find two XCPT homies bringing the audience straight into Matera landscapes: Farron gets a 909 unceasing toms orchestra surrounded by his atmospheric leads while Kreggo illustrates clearly his hypnotic mid-low vision of breakbeat locked by a mystic bass for the whole track.

Review: The Yama Music label is slowly but surely building a fantastic discography. It has taken five years to get to release number six, but each one has always been worth the wait. This Various Artists collection sees the crew expand its roster with the likes of London's Frazer Campbell bringing his perfectly reduced and rolling dub techno sounds to 'How Hard Can It Be.' OddMann's 'Spazziale' is another dub heavy joint, but one with a slower tempo that encourages you to sink in deep and enjoy zoning out. Elsewhere, 'Osc2' is all about a brilliantly bulbous bassline that never stops evolving, and the Yama Music crew offer a rock solid, jacked up house cut full of muscularity.

Review: Hailing from the new and mysterious Vara label, this four track double pack makes a bold statement about the intentions of the label, offering a decidedly ambitious product for a second release populated by relatively unknown producers. Lucky then that all the tracks on the release are worthy of their own side of wax as they plumb the depths of minimal tech house with fearless abandon. Arapu keeps the beat twitchy as he lets globulous sub bass design provide the warmth in the track, while Dubsons get into a lighter frame of mind with a breezy beat and atmospheric swirls of chord. Faster brings things back to a darker context with that fearful clang of church bells and plenty of decay and reverb around to fill in any untoward gaps, leaving it to Costy & Gerardo to finish the deal with a stoutly stripped down, cyclical burner for the deepest of dancefloor contemplators to get lost in.

Thankfully, each new EP brings with it new perspectives and fresh sound designs' and this one in particular really offers something original from six different artists. There's bright, melodic, celebratory tackle from Arctor, banging drum programming from Sound Synthesis and spaced out late night dreamscape material from Featherstone, and that's just on the a-side. Review: Arkyn continues to sail the good ship Tufstuf into the deep murky oceans of hardcore and jungle. Taking the lead role on three of the tracks, he lays down some stark, dark and emotional sermons; 'Holding On' eases us into the vibe with its poignant piano strokes, epic yearning vocal and clattering drums before a humongous bassline kicks in. 'Never Again' meanwhile gets raw and gritty with its unrelenting chops and an evil low end they say Beelzebub sculpted himself. Review: Emerging from nowhere earlier this year, the LDN WHT label made quite the impression with their inaugural release incorporating full on productions from Bleaching Agent, Viktoria Rebekah, Krill Music's Espen Lauritzen and under rated Dutchman Charlton. The vinyl only London operation offer a similarly intriguing selection for release number 2 with Audio Injection and Dax J the headline draw alongside up and comers Franco Gonzales and Cleric. The presence of David Flores' Audio Injection project is naturally quite impressive and "Charge" is typical of the booming heavyweight material the Los Angeles resident has been filtering through his own Droid imprint. Ear To The Ground's Dax J is on fine form with "From The Grave" which takes a frenetic approach to taut acid tinged raw techno that still finds room for moments of mechanised emotion. Down town "Natural Process A" sees Cleric draw on the melodic approach of 'BFC' era Carl Craig within a modern rhythmic framework whilst Argentinean Gonzales demonstrates a looseness in drum programming that immediately catches the ear on "Submarine".
