Review: Yore's latest release is a little different. It features Chicago-based producer and sound designer Andrew Emil delivering his own 'dreamix' versions of a trio of little-known cuts. There's an epic, nigh on 10-minute revision of one his own productions as Change Request, 'Sunday's Best', on the flip - a gorgeously bumpin', summery and melodious chunk of life-affirming deep house sunshine with added US garage swing in the beats - plus two tweaks of cuts by (we think) lesser-known acts. His take on Artispure's collaboration with The Remedy, 'Chicago Underground', is a more spacey-sounding chunk of tactile deep house hypnotism, while Emil's take on Elbert Phillips and Andre Esput's 'Sunlight' is a superbly soulful, garage-influenced deep house workout that more than lives up to its title.

Review: During the first COVID-19 lockdown of 20210, London-based afrobeat collective Eparapo, an - all-stars - outfit helmed by Afrobeat Orchestra member Suman Joshi and featuring his good friend Dele Sosimi, remotely recorded a handful of killer cuts. Two of these previously digital-only gems have finally made it to vinyl, accompanied by brand-new remixes. 'From London To Lagos' is an admirable commentary on corruption set to a fuzzy, infectious, Fela Kuti style afrobeat workout, while 'Black Lives Matter' is a slowed-down, stretched out and musically detailed affair that proudly takes aim on international racism. The 'Wheelup Remix' of 'From London To Lagos' cannily re-imagines the track as a tactile, spacey and bass-heavy chunk of shuffling deep house warmth, while Sam Redmore's revision of 'Black Lives Matter' gives the track a more dancefloor focused afrobeat twist.

Review: Legendary UK indie hopefuls turned leftfield dance-pop institution Everything But the Girl aka Ben Watt and Tracey Thorn have got their first album in over 20 years dropping around about now. Before that though they have commissioned some superb remixes of the lead single. One is from Four Tet, whom they say they have always loved for the "meditative but propulsive thing in his music. The restraint mixed with momentum." He pulls off that trick again here with a fine remix, and he also supplies an instrumental, then comes extended club and dub mixes of the original from Ben Watt and Bruno Ellingham.

Review: We've become accustomed to hearing Nautilus offer-up authentic, Hammond-rich jazz-funk of the sort associated with such 1970s titans of the genre as Lonnie Liston Smith, Jimmy McGriff, Jimmy Smith and Herbie Hancock. On 'Caught Up', the flip the script, recruiting vocalist Emi Tawata to help conjure up a wonderfully starry, warming, organic and mood-enhancing slab of R&B-influenced modern soul. Their Rhodes-laden (and genuinely inspired) original mix comes accompanied by an alternative take from Jazzy Sport regular Grooveman Spot, who brilliantly re-imagines the song as a squelchy, synth-laden slab of slipped soul rich in colourful electronics, bold electronic bass and crunchy machine beats.

Review: London-based Undersound Recordings serve up four janky, stanky new ones on their latest compilation vinyl, flaunting four tracks of deep, dubby and ploddy electro and hous. Omar Santis, Eversines, Dynamic Wave and Enrica Falqui all come to the fore. Omar's 'Quiero Bailar' sets the weirder tones on the opening track, with its new wavey jaunts and licks and slapdash feel, while Falqui's closing 'Divine Time' proving a neat counterpoint; a no more overthought exercise in wondrous, synaptic ambience.

Review: Two And Half Records make the decision here to try and rid the A and B-side distinction on records that we are all very familiar with and instead they refer to each face of their latest 12" as 'dance' and 'listen.'' It makes sense frankly and is often how things go anyway. Swiss duo Quismi kick off this one with twitchy and narcotic tech house with an old school bent. French artist Groenogen then gets wild with bright melodies and grinding synths, r&b vocals and high speed tech funk on 'Twinkle Dance' while ILyes offers the tech silkiness of 'Starting Now.' On the flip is a trio of less direct, more experimental sounds that sure do offer plenty to get lost in on headphones.

Review: The Two & Half label is back after a head turning debut with a new various artists EP that lays out more of its singular sonic visions. Ionescu kicks off with 'Low Ride Her,' a balmy mix of lithe synths and cosmically minded pads that unfurl over fresh beats. Emi Omar's 'Rob Hot' brings twisted percussion and future funk and Venetia rounds out a-side with 'Atomic', which is a high speed techno jaunt wired up with filtered vocals and unrelenting snares and scurrying bass. Review: It's been five years since Truth & Soul's octet gave us the incredible Wu Tang version album. It's been two years since they last dropped a single, too. However the band is back and their trademark cinematic soul is richer and more emotive than ever. From the instant the trembling flute and guitar open with the cuddly, ultimately positive "Kiddy Ditty" we're whisked on a largely instrumental journey that flings us through the wild west ("Little House"), soul's early JB chapters ("This Song For You") and straight up NY low-slung funk ("A Little Sloppy"). Climaxing with a Lee Fields featured "By The Time I Get To Phoenix", Loose Change is a kind reminder of just how accomplished and creative El Michels Affair are. No change there, then.

Review: The Tropical Disco crew continue to show an utter disregard for the season by serving up more of their seamy and summer grooves. The super strong Various Artists collection kicks off with the funky bass riffs of 'In Motion' from Phazed Groove, who ride the riffs and fluttering flute lines to the cosmos and back again. Ziggy Phunk gets more raw and punchy with a freewheeling disco house cut that will shake your booty loose and on the backside are two more timeless tracks: 'Funky Tranky' has lush trumpets reaching for the skies and 'Calabao' brings a real Latin vibe and flailing percussive energy.

Review: A hard one to pigeonhole when it comes to genre, floating somewhere between Italo and synthpop, and originally released in Switzerland in 1985. Written by German pop group Hongkong Syndikat, both tracks on Ethereal Beat's 'Underboard' flaunt a hyper-distinct yet soothing sound, one which is hard to forget. 'Underboard' is a coolly paced downtempo number which builds up with layers of subtle percussion, lusciously adorned by heavy, saxy reedsmanship and mysterious vocal accents with no real message - 100% chill o'clock served on ice. 'Cedar Of Lebanon' picks up the tempo a notch, once again setting the scene for the reeds to shine as the catchy melody is presented; beautiful 80s instrumentalism from a golden age, and clearly not made in Ableton. The B-side features a respectful DJ tool style remix by contemporary producer Anatolian Weapons.

Review: Eidolon is an alias for Ian Lehman from the US Midwest, who dropped the alias opposite the likes of Agaric around the late 00s. The sound on this release for Ukrainian label Tancido speaks to that era of dark and crafty minimal, but there's an analogue warmth to the synth sounds which suggests this might be newer material made in that vein rather than archival material. The rubbery leads on 'I'll Be A Ghost' are a surefire highlight, and there's plenty of intrigue in the arrangement to add some variation to your marathon DJ set when time starts folding in on itself and the most psychoactive tracks are the fuel to keep the party trucking.

Review: Sasha is the popular resident of Moscow-based record label, booking and event agency System 108. She makes thrilling, club-centric music as Errortica and this hugeness EP is impossible to ignore. Drawing from her background in garage bands and extensive DJing, Errortica disregards genre boundaries and infuses breakbeat, Balearic, Jersey and bass music seamlessly. Employing calligraphic sampling, re-sampling, vocal recording processed through guitar FX pedals, and robust drum programming, her creative process exudes explosive energy. As Errortica aptly puts it, "a real party is a sweaty party!" and this EP certainly will lead to one of those.

Review: Established by the late DJ Ajax, Australian label Sweat It Out is back with a new release this week by label staple Tino Piontek aka Purple Disco Machine. Originally releasing under the aliases Stereofreak and Stereofunk, Piontek debuted on the Sydney-based label with his acclaimed Soulmatic LP back in 2017. The Dresden-based producer serves up some typically neon-lit night moves on the scorching disco inferno of 'Dopamine' that's sure to set the dancefloor alight on the A side. Over on the flip, Piontek streamlines the groove into a more functional and bass-driven affair for DJ use on the handy club dub.

Review: Spanish label Sungate has become a truly buy on sight label thanks to its eye-catching artwork by Abel Fdez and scores of quality digital and vinyl releases from the likes of Jozef K & Tinman, Iori, Skudge and many more. Their latest release comes from Estrato Aurora, who you might have spotted on Bliq, and his frequent collaborator Siarem. Between them, the pair whip up a classy strain of minimally-minded electro which locks into simmering, understated beats and uses subtle atmospheric touches rather than the usual punchy synth leads and basslines you commonly associate with the genre. It's a fresh approach which serves them well, and also gives devoted electro DJs some interesting tools for tweaking the energy in a set without losing the essence of the sound.

It's a tune primed to greet the warmer weather, staying faithful to the original while giving it a fresh spin. Review: Offering another foursome of new tracks for Spatial Recordings comes Eusebeia with 'Age Of Awareness', charting a new topology of human understanding via the archetypal throughline that is drum & bass. Perhaps Eusebeia is aware that Apollo's son was the god of healing and remedies: A-sider 'Healing Properties' shoots for jungle of the least abrasive kind, lowpassing the breaks to allow a thick cloud of pads and synths, which dance about the mix. Also helping to cement Eusebeia's renaissance in sound is 'Scope Of Understanding', which clarifies the Overton window for a new sonic age; keeping to sampled-breaks orthodoxy but nonetheless pushing for a full reformation in breaks and ambience, blowing any and all potential competition out the park when it comes to sound design and sense of cosmic space.

Review: It might only be young but Sounds of Sirius is a label that has got plenty of attention over its first few EPs. This seventh outing from the New Zealand crew welcomes a quartet of minimalists who all offer up their own take on the genre. The master Mihai Pol opens with the gurgling late-night intricacies of 'The Sun' then Last Pines explores a tripped out 5am mood with paranoid vocals and warped synths on 'Midnight 01.' Nibaaldo's 'El Repaso De Ludovico' is a superb tapestry of reverb, loops, underlapping drums and snaking bass and Enzo Leep then offers a more peak time and punchy closer in 'Full Bright Inside' to end another fresh EP.

Review: The Sound Migration label takes another trip back in to the CATT articles to explore the proto-trance and early bleep techno sound they were pushing from 1988-1991. Another five essential gems from the modestly sized catalogue get an airing here, kicking off with Confidential's haunting 'Amphibious Carbine' followed by the boxy pressure of Exocet's 'Nitrogen'. This is astounding stuff throughout, not least the freak-zone trip of Holy Ghost's 'Walking On Air', which sounds like the common denominator between Ibiza and Goa in their nascent days as party destinations. Don't sleep on the clattering funk of Exocet's 'Overdose' either, a seriously snappy groover with all kinds of oddball sampling going on.

Review: The goddaughter of Pharoah Sanders, Adriana Evans is a mid 90s soul artist who emerged with a throwback sound. Rather than leaning on the synths and drum machines of the post-disco era she looked to the golden instrumental years. Her debut album in 1996 is a real classic and is the source of the two gorgeous tunes here. 'Looking For Your Love' is a lush, mid-tempo tune with crisp drums and exquisite horns and chords making for a golden vibe. On the reverse is the equally great 'I'll Be There', which is a laced with plaintive piano and flutes that are airy and emotive.

Review: The young Soul Touch Productions label knocks it out of the park once more with this new 12" featuring Motor City royals at the top of their game. Terrence Parker kicks off with the beautifully uplifting 'Tonight We Luv' with its streaming and soulful melodies and nice smooth drum loops. Drummer B then steps up with the mad piano action and slamming house of 'In My Zone' (feat Javonntte) and last of all, the man so often left out of the early history of Detroit's underground, Eddie Fowlkes, comes through with a spine-tingling vocal deep house delight in the form of 'Hold Me Down'.

Review: Eugene Lamont Johnson aka Lamont Johnson is known amongst those who now as the first man to ever become renowned internationally for playing freestyles R&B bass. What a lovely fact. The Michican born artist first came to note as a session musician with Gloster Williams &The King Vision and then went on to work with various other bands. Here we get presented with two of his previously unreleased dance tunes. They feature various different local Detroit musicians and vocalists with the a-side being a male vocal led feel good bunker and the flip driven by a synthesised baseline and big female vocal. Review: Here comes a sweet slice of dub reggae courtesy of the late Sid Bucknor's studio and the gorgeous vocal work of The Ebony Sisters. On 'Tell Love Hello If You See Him', they're singing a Gamble & Huff creation originally performed by Mellow Moods and released by The North Bay in 1971. It's a bittersweet but ultimately feel-good tune backed by a pitch-perfect riddim, which Bucknor sends out in an understated style for the dub version on the flip. Some of the finest reggae tunes in history are the heartbreak ones, and so it goes on this golden 7".

Review: Dutch label Shiver makes its debut this week with a various artist EP featuring some current heroes of the minimal/tech house scene. On the first side of Cold Flower (Full Bloom) you've got Cris P with the hi-tech deepness of the title track, reminiscent of early United States Of Mars sounds, followed by Rosario's darkly stomping Stigma Flap remix and Ouhx's liquid drum 'n' bass journey 'Aomori' which is an introduction of things to come over on the flip. There you have Berlin's Ed Herbst, usually known for his deep house exploits, delivering the 90s influenced jazzy jungle roller 'High & Dry' followed by something more familiar of him in the form of late night mood music groove 'Between The Bars'.
