Review: Here comes a reissue of Cherubs's 2 Ynfynyty album on a rather impressive and unique jawbreaker vinyl. It is one of a bunch of reissues of this metal band's best work including special 30th anniversary editions of their Icing album. This one has not been on vinyl since its original release back in 2015 and at the time it was the cult band's first new music in 20 years. It was an immediate hit with older fans as the cult noise rock kings headed into new territory but not without foregoing plenty of the hallmarks of their definitive early sounds.

Review: The Chills' 1987 debut Brave Words sees a double-LP remaster, including a disc of unheard extras. Renowned as totemic purveyors of New Zealand's finest jangle pop, The Chills retained a large cult following in their homeland of Dunedin - not least as some of the earliest proponents of what was then known as the Dunedin sound, which later went on to influence some of indie rock's best-known stars including R.E.M., Yo La Tengo and Pavement and going on to contribute to the formation of the indie rock genre as a whole. Brave Worlds brings jubilant cynicism to the sound, deliberating on the contradictions of modern life, while building on the sonic palette already laid down over their various EPs and live shows. Review: Lucinda Chua is currently based in South London and is a singer, songwriter, composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist. She crafts elegant and emotive music mainly using her voice and cello, plenty of effects units and draws on ambient for her inspiration. What results is atmospheric and intimate music that is utterly enchaining as this album on 4AD proves across ten tracks that come after she spent an intensive period studying Chinese dance forms. Lead single 'Echo' is a pop song about ancestral trauma that walks a thin line between respect for the past and the hope and freedom of a new future. It's captivating indeed.

Review: Australian alternative rock band The Church put out their sixth studio album in 1990. It's best known for the breakout rock hit 'Metropolis' and performed commercially well overall after the successes of 1988 hit album Starfish, Gold Afternoon Fix . An interesting nugget for fact fans is that this album is their first of the band's not to feature a 12 string guitar as Marty Wilson-Piper's instrument got stolen on a previous tour. The subtle change in sound didn't derail the band and they continued to pick up more and more fans for their lilting grooves and lyrical subjects such as love, loss and plenty in between. The band were induced into the ARIA Hall of Fame in 2010.

Review: Australian indie rockers The Church are an example of a band who have continued on strong ever since their inception, releasing a new album every few years or so since their debut in 1980. New single 'The Hypnogogue' is a gothic spectacle for all the somnambulists out there. Laying down a sinister group of layered guitar arps and an off-the-wall music video to boot, we're more than excited to find out what this sinister new iteration of the band's vision promises for the future.

Review: It's hard to believe that a full decade has passed since the debut LP from Glaswegian synth-pop trio Chvrches weaved its way onto a myriad of end-of-year lists while being praised as one of the best breakout albums of the 2010's. Combining John Carpenter-esque retro 80s synthwork with coldwave precision and vocalist Lauren Mayberry's lilting yet singular cadence and opaque lyrical vulnerability, The Bones Of What You Believe served as a highpoint of modern pop and alternative rock by drawing on nostalgia to craft a bevvy of refreshing material falling somewhere between an emo Kate Bush or Kraftwerk turned pop producers. Bolstered by their continuing progress over subsequent full-lengths and a legion of avid fans, the trio have rarely ceased to capitalise on the momentum set by their much adored debut, with singles such as 'Gun', 'Recover', and the anthemic 'The Mother We Share' still retained as live and festival essentials. If this isn't already in your collection, then this latest tenth anniversary edition leaves you no excuse.
