Review: Social Registry brings you Blood On The Wall's new album 'Liferz'. Having gone from hometown heroes to national fan favourites and critical darlings, the band has earned its reputation as top of the rock heap.
Putting out raucously fun records, this is a portrait of a band at the top of their game - somehow they have managed to get even more awesome.

Review: Since debuting in the early twenty-teens, Parisian producer Adrien Durrand has proved adept at bending musical styles and sounds. There's much of that on Jungle? Quelle Jungle?, his first album under the newly expanded Bon Voyage Organisation alias. Across the album's 13 tracks, you'll find seductive, Air style fusions of Chanson and electronic music, stylish post-punk '80s synth-pop, humid blends of Haitian rhythms and stoned Afro-disco, simmering spaced-out soundscapes, Sebastien Tellier style orchestrated Balearica, Italo-disco inspired sunrise shufflers and even a touch of experimental, out-there electronica that sounds like the Radiophonic Workshop jamming with African drum circles. In other words, Durrand inhabits his own sonic space and the resultant music is rarely less than wondrous.

Review: Lying dormant for eight years has evidently provided Brand New with enough reinvigoration to return guns blazing on this powerful and engulfing record. From the haunting samples that open the album in 'Lit Me Up', through to the resonating feedback and field recordings on the tail end of closer 'Batter Up', 'Science Fiction' follows a brooding path through contrasting passages of loud and quiet, confessional introspection and frustrated aggression. The band's well tempered control makes the more surprising moments, such as the bluesy desert rock of '451' and the pared back folk of 'Could Never Be Heaven' fit in seamlessly, making this an impressive, engaging and well-rounded return to form.

Review: He's perhaps best known as a member of Tedeschi Trucks Band, with whom he won the 2011 Grammy for Best Blues Album, but trumpeter, composer and producer Maurice Brown is also a successful artist in his own right, and here he presents his fourth solo album. Soul-jazz and hip-hop influences predominate, with the album moving inexorably into smoother territory as it progresses, and Talib Kweli making a guest appearance on 'Stand Up'. Bound to be big with support from the likes of Gilles Peterson and Snowboy, 'The Mood' is never less than an engaging listen.

Review: For almost a decade from the mid 1980s onwards, Hamburg's Front Club was one of Germany's leading bastions of underground merriment. Although its roots were as a gay club for a discerning crowd that demanded better than the commercial fare that was on offer elsewhere, it went on to become a haven for underground dance music enthusiasts of all sexual persuasions. Here, resident DJs Klaus Stockhausen and Boris Dlugosch serve up a two-disc taste of life on Front's dancefloor, giddily joining the dots between experimental European synth-pop, Italo-disco, New York proto-house, early Chicago jack-tracks, electro-funk, Bobby 'O' Orlando style Fairlight-driven high-energy stompers, Detroit techno and much more besides. As you'd expect, it's a sweaty, celebratory and thrill-a-minute ride.
