Atlas (DJ Koze remix)
Review: 'Atlas' is the first track to precede the most exciting album of 2007. This rhythmic rocker released on Warp, features some freaky vocals, a stomping drum beat and a captivating juggernaut of a groove. 'Atlas' has a killer video featuring Battles performing in a giant mirrored cube, spinning through outer space, showcasing their inimitable style.

Why So Serious? (4:47)
Make Up (3:26)
Stress Me Out (4:05)
Night Falls (3:29)
Review:  Stephen James Wilkinson aka Bibio has been a big part of Warp's revival since the mid 2000's, and it's no surprise given the fact that this guy is as multi-talented as he is productive behind the mixing desk. "Why So Serious" is a chilled out, hazy boogie monster with gorgeous synth accompaniment and Olivier St Louis on the vocals, while "Make Up" goes more soulful thanks to its slow beat and St Louis' sublime singing. "Stress Me Out" heads back to the LA Boulevard for a ride around with the convertible, and "Night Falls" provides the gentle sort of cool down that's perfect for a night drive. Another cracker from Wilkinson, and also from London's Warp stable.

Review: ***B-STOCK: Creasing to corner of outer sleeve but otherwise in excellent condition***

As part of their on going series of special vinyl releases of radio broadcasts from days gone by, Warp this time turn to a special Peel Session put together by Boards Of Canada. Covering plenty of ground from the deep and chugging dream-techno of "Happy Cycling" to the archetypal IDM squiggles and kinetics of "XYZ" via the sort of brain cleansing alpine purity of ambient beauty "Olson". Opener "Aquarius" sounds almost balearic in comparison, with little guitar riffs, smeared chords and sampled vocals that bring to mind the finest post-rave work of Orbital.

Review: For many years, Mother is the Milky Way has been one of the most sought-after artifacts in Broadcast's discography. Originally released in limited quantities during their final tour in 2009, it has finally been given a proper release as part of a package of reissues by the band's label, Warp. Musically, it's amongst their most trippy and psychedelic releases - an experimental mini-album that sees the late Trish Keenan add icy, ethereal vocals to frequently creepy and otherworldly sound collages that make use of field recordings, children's voices and decidedly hallucinogenic electronics. It's perhaps not their most comforting of releases, but it remains one of their most interesting and alluring.

DJ Marfox - "Take Off" (4:36)

DJ Nigga Fox - "LUMI" (3:23)
Blacksea Nao Maya - "Afro" (2:59)
DJ Ly-COox - "Good Wine" (2:49)
Review: Tapping up the fertile Lisbon scene and its proud individualistic electronic music, Warp Records presents the first volume of CARGAA in a move that will no doubt break the sounds of these artists through to a wider audience, much as happened with the Chicago footwork producers on Planet Mu's Bangs & Works compilations. DJ Marfox and DJ Newdyt Fox kick the EP off with a searing blend of peak time hype full of pealing leads, off beat percussion and subby booms. DJ Nigga Fox meanwhile takes things a little slower, plays down the synth lines and lets the percussion come further forwards in a head-spinning melee of polyrhythms. There's also string laden emotion from Blacksea Naoo MAya, and a sprightly slice of wonky house from DJ Ly-COox proving that in Portugal's capital a whole lot of influences feed into a very unique melting pot.

Review: Second time around for B12's superb sophomore set, the dystopian, sci-fi themed "Time Tourist". On its initial release in 1996, the album was marketed as a 22nd century "educational soundtrack" to the "primitive past" (I.E the late 20th century). It's a theme entirely in keeping with the original ethos of Detroit techno, and it's no surprise that the accompanying music offered a typically "Artificial Intelligence"-era slant on the Motor City sound, re-imagining the work of the Belleville three as a killer suite of ambient techno, intelligent techno and dreamy ambient cuts. This edition has been expanded by the addition of four previously unheard tracks that originally missed the cut, all of which are as breathtakingly good as those that did. In a word: essential.

Review: B12's 1993 debut album, Electro-Soma, has long been regarded as one of intelligent dance music's "must-have releases". Offering a decidedly intergalactic blend of otherworldly techno, ambient and deep space electronica, it remains a brilliant piece of work. Here, Warp Records give it the reissue treatment, packaging the peerless original album with a second disc of early B12 rarities and hard-to-find cuts recorded during the same period. There's naturally plenty to admire on this bonus disc, from the shimmering electro bustle of "Transient Pathways" and Motor City futurism of "Debris", to the intoxicating ambient brilliance of "Go With The Hiss". That this material is every bit as good as the tracks included on Electro-Soma is testament to the (then) duo's rarely matched brilliance.

Review: "Mirrored", the long awaited third album from New York quartet Battles, has proven to be well worth the wait. New textures and horizons become attainable through the addition of vocals courtesy of Tyondai Braxton, though the vocals certainly aren't what one would expect. With "Mirrored", Battles have effectively eschewed all conventional formulas and created their own cohesive precedent.

Review: Battles, the NYC art rock group, have been around since 2002 and they've also featured on Warp's catalogue for over ten years. The trio are back with a new album on the London imprint, twelve tracks of stoner jams coated in a fine layer of electronic oddity. Much like their previous releases, Battles are minimal on the vocals, preferring instead to speak through their guiatrs, drums and synthesizers; our selections from the LP have to be "Summer Simmer" for its driving groove and almost Bollywood chimes, the slow electronic waves of "Cacio E Pepe", "Dot Com's" percussive energy, and the jazzy influences of the sublime "Tricentennial". Pure class that should not be slept on. Welcome back, boys!

Review: Plenty has changed since Battles exploded onto the scene as one of the freshest bands of that moment. Not least within the outfit itself, with departures and instability seeming to run through the very DNA of this troupe. Nevertheless, some things have certainly stayed the same - in particular the complexity and detail in their sound. Synth math prog rock, without wanting to put too fine a point on it. At times it's almost over-facing, that is until you cut through the chaos and start to truly appreciate how good the nuances and intricacies actually are. Highlights come thick and fast, from opener "Ambulance" which nods to playful classical; re-read through chip music before exploding into hypnotic mania. "IZM", which benefits from the appearance of hip hop duo Shabazz Palaces, nods to turn-of-the-century Beasties Boys or Chemical Brothers. And "Sugar Foot" which takes things down a more organic, vocal-driven route. Intelligent and intellectual, not that we expected anything less.

Review: Even by Bibio's usual, decidedly loved-up standards, A Mineral Love is a hugely positive set. While it still boasts the producer's usual colourful dreaminess, lo-fi rhythms and distinctive vocals, these are emphasized by dizzying, P-funk influenced synth lines, a healthy dose of Prince style purple funk, a dash of psychedelic pop, a splash of Beck, and riffs, grooves and lyrics that recall both '70s soul, and the revivalist efforts of artists such as Mayer Hawthorne. It's a musical palette that guarantees feel good tunes throughout, suggesting that A Mineral Love may turn out to be Bibio's most commercially successful album to date.

Review: Folktronica mainstay Bibio returns with more of his pastoral delights. The talented instrumentalist and producer perfectly fuses his two distinctive sounds into a lush new world that is soothing, escapist and thoughtful, His lyrics, of course, lend the album real weight beyond the pure musical joy, though his acoustic guitar and violin sure does take some beating. If you can, it's also worth searching out the video for "Sleeping On The Wing" - an animated piece by Sonnye Lim that shows bird flight and live Bibio performances interspersed with one another.

Review: Stephen Wilkinson has now made some seven albums under the auspices of Bibio, all the while notably avoiding any kind of genre restrictions in his pursuit of a unique and affecting style that somehow embraces glacial ambience, folk, jazz, reggae and '70s rock along its path. 'A Mineral Love', meanwhile, takes a nature-inclined theme and uses it to create a delicate and seductive record that is as engaging as it is stylistically elusive. At all times though, a flair for melody and texture prevails throughout these ditties, ultimately creating something not unlike an imaginary John Martyn as produced by Four Tet in 1982 - and as strange and beguiling as that sounds.

Review: It's startling to think Bibio has been comfortably nestled on Warp Records for 10 years now. The folk-leaning beatsmith has taken his sound in subtly shifting directions while staying true to his delicate, melodious identity. On this latest album "Ribbons" he's sounding sweeter than ever, twirling up a 60s reverie of finger-picking guitar and tender vocals guaranteed to bring on sunshine, real or imaginary, no matter what time of year you pop it on. There are some more crooked moments to be enjoyed for fans of the more beat-oriented Bibio sound - "Pretty Ribbons & Lovely Flowers" has a wonderful crunch to it, but for the most part it's a treat to get lost in the pastoral reverie of the album's main themes.

Review: Reissue of highly lauded folktronica album, originally released in 2005 on US label Mush. Bibio is UK producer Stephen James Wilkinson, who has released several albums and EPs on Warp, his last being 2014's "The Green EP". This reissue will certainly help fans join the dots between then and now, with ambient and folk still being his main crossover point, just as it was a decade ago. Highlights on here being the looped and layered banjo workout of "Bewley In White", the sombre acoustic expressions of "Puffer" or "Cantaloup" (the latter sounding like it was recorded on a broken tape machine and to interesting effect) and the creepy lo-fi ambience of "I'm Rewinding It". Highly recommended.

Review: Straddling the worlds of dancefloor techno and leftfield experimentation - very often in the same track - The Black Dog aka Black Dog Productions was made up of Ed Handley, Andy Turner and Ken Downie, and on this one the trio appear in various combinations under various guises such as Atypic, I.A.O, Close Up Over, Balil, Xeper, Discordian Popes and Plaid. They released Bytes 30 years ago this year, the third album in Warp's Artificial Intelligence series and this anniversary repress comes on gatefold double vinyl with original artwork. It has been re-cut for the occasion and is as immersive and widescreen now as it ever was.

Review: The Black Dog were one of the core early Warp acts, and their Spanners album - the third full length of their career at the time - is one of their best. Despite its roots in the early IDM scene, the album managed to climb to number 30 in the UK charts back when it arrived in January 1995. It's a great mix of unexpected experimental oddness and dancefloor rhythms that makes for a superb trip through what was then the modern world. Pitchfork have rated it one of the 50 best IDM albums ever and this reissue reminds us why.

Review: Given that it's been eight years since the last Boards of Canada album, Tomorrow's Harvest should, by rights, push Daft Punk's Random Access Memories in the hype stakes. Certainly, it's a fine set. During their sabbatical, Marcus Eoin and Michael Sandison have lost none of their power to amaze and impress. Chords drone, samples hiss, synths shimmer and beats swing. There are intense ambient moments and intoxicating, post-IDM dreamscapes. It is in turns icy, warm, introspective and blindingly picturesque. Throughout, Tomorrow's Harvest is impeccably atmospheric, conjuring images of windswept Scottish moors, becalmed Cornish bays and maudlin pagan ceremonies. As comeback records go, it's pretty darn good.

Review: When it comes to a reissue such as this it can't be understated just how arresting the work of Boards of Canada can be in the right situation. This EP, that came to light in between Music Has The Right To Children and Geogaddi, represents the enigmatic duo at their most powerful, channeling their energy into four long-form tracks that draw on all of their combined strengths. "Kid For Today" is haunting and dark but utterly heartbreaking, whilst "Amo Bishop Roden" heads into more mysterious territory. "In A Beautiful Place Out In The Country" is eerie in its titular invitation to join a cult, and "Zoetrope" tips its hat to Terry Riley et al in its looping phrases, but really there's no describing the magnificence of these gems, pleasingly reissued on vinyl to beat the Discogs chancers.

Review: Widely regarded as Boards of Canada's finest hour, Music Has The Right To Children finds itself the subject of a well-deserved 2LP gatefold reissue from Warp Records. One of the most defining records of what was known for better or worse as IDM still sounds as timeless as it did in 1998, as the library tones of "Wildlife Analysis", thick downtempo rhythms of "Roygbiv" and out of focus melodies of "Olson" prove. Essential!

Warp's Boards of Canada reissue campaign reaches Geogaddi, perhaps the duo's most expansive (if not their most popular) record, presented here on a 3LP gatefold edition. Considerably darker than its predecessor Music Has The Right To Children, the claustrophobic sounds of "Gyroscope" and sampled spoken word in tracks like "Dandelion" and "Energy Warning" present a somewhat dystopian setting, filled with unsettling sounds, such as the light but eerie melodies of "Alpha & Omega" and "1969". Undoubtedly one deserving of reappraisal.

Review: For fans of the sadly defunct Broadcast - one of the most intriguing and musically impressive British electronic outfits of the '90s and noughties - this collection of radio recordings should be essential listening. Made up of four previously broadcast but never commercially released live sessions at the BBC's Maida Vale studios, it does a great job in charting the Birmingham band's sonic progression between 1996 and 2003. It includes stellar performances of tracks they later reworked for their albums (see 'Echo's Answer', a trippy version of 'Come on Let's Go' and 'Minim'), plus a genuinely brilliant cover of Nico's 'Sixty Forty' that offers a reminder of just how expressive and talented a vocalist the late Trish Keenan was.

Mother's Milk Means Music (At Home In The Universe)

Review: After what seems like an eternity, Warp has finally decided to give Broadcast's Microtonics series a full release. Initially made available only to fans at gigs, the two-volume series saw the band experimenting not with their krautrock-influenced brand of trippy electronic pop, but rather the kind of music concrete and synthesizer experiments that were once the preserve of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop, Peter Zinovieff and the various modular synthesis fetishists that came in their wake. For that reason, it's not Broadcast at their most accessible, but if you're into vintage synth sounds and admirable experimental electronica, Microtonics makes for hugely enjoyable listening.

Review: Danny Brown has long been an underground hip hop superstar. Now up to his fifth studio album he has pretty much achieved it all so decides to drill down and make a supremely focussed record that says a lot in just 11 tracks. His flow is reined in and superbly controlled throughout, it's hip hop laced with a sense of psychedelia but also strongly informed by classic, golden era boom-bap - no doubt thanks to the legendary producer behind it all, namely Mr Q-Tip. Featuring raw energy, spiritual thoughtfulness, guest spots from Run The Jewels and Blood Orange, this is an accomplished record from an accomplished artist.

Review: The highly anticipated follow-up to 2019's old school Q-Tip executively produced Uknowhatimsayin? and the 2023 Scaring The Hoes collab tape with alternative hip-hop savant JPEGMAFIA, Quaranta (Spanish for 40) shall serve as the next solo full-length from the hero that is Danny Brown. Conceptually, Brown appears poised to take us on a lyrical and sonic sojourn across his expansive success ever since he knocked the scene's door down decades ago.

Review: The brand new Plaid album is a full on audio-visual extravaganza complimented with a DVD by film & video artist Bob Jaroc. Plaid are one of Warp's classic electronic acts alongside Aphex Twin, Autechre & Squarepusher. They've been on Warp for over 10 years ever since their previous incarnation Black Dog dissolved. Their new project, 'Greedy Baby' contains an audio CD written in 5.1 surround sound as well as a DVD created by their visual engineer Bob Jaroc (also known for his visual work with The Flaming Lips & Go Team). The audio element provides a soundtrack of fragile melody juxtaposed with dexterous grooves. The DVD is the essence of their evolving live audio-visual show, some of which has aired to packed audiences across the globe including London's IMAX cinema & Queen Elizabeth Hall. 'Super Barrio' offers pioneering animation from Andy Ward who gives real life to the track's central character, super hero 'Super Barrio', a Mexican wrestler and political mouthpiece for the people.
