Review: To tie in with the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landings, Brian Eno has decided to put out a new edition of his decidedly spacey 1983 ambient album "Apollo: Atmospheres & Soundtracks", which started life as the soundtrack to a long-forgotten documentary about NASA's space program. The edition is rather special, not only because it contains a remastered version of the original set created by Eno, his brother Roger and regular collaborator Daniel Lanois, but also because it contains a second disc of previously unheard material. This is not old, though, but rather brand new recordings - described as "new interpretations of the film soundtrack" - made by the Lanois and the Eno brothers late last year in a similar style. In a word: essential.

Review: Two decades have passed since Massive Attack signaled a new stage in their career with the dark, paranoid and claustrophobic brilliance of "Mezzanine", their third studio album. Given the current global political climate, it arguably sounds even more relevant 20 years after it first hit stores. This time round, the re-mastered original set comes accompanied by something none of us have heard before: Mad Professor's complete dub translation, which was slated for release around the turn of the Millennium but for one reason or another never came out. Like his take on "No Protection", it's an inspired set of revisions that takes 3D and Daddy G's dense and red-eyed originals into wild new bass-heavy places. Even if you own the original version already, it's well worth picking up this special edition just for that alone.

Review: Here's a band who need no introduction even to the most casual music fan. "Big Hits (High Tides & Green Grass)" was the first official compilation album and released in 1966, when the best was arguably still yet to come. This sees a selection of both the Rolling Stones' biggest hitters and some slightly lesser-known selections that show off plenty of variety. There are more left-field cuts such as the slightly folk-leaning "As Tears Go By", as well as rawer recordings (Chuck Berry's "Come On") with the album's richness is further cemented with classics like "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction" and "Paint It Black". No doubt an interesting dive into the back catalogue of one of Britain's most celebrated bands.

Review: Earlier this year, Marc Almond and Dave Ball shocked fans by announcing that they would be reforming Soft Cell for a second time. There was more good news, too: the legendary, Leeds-based electro-pop pair had recorded a couple of new singles, "Northern Lights" and "Guilty (Coz I Say You Are)". Those new cuts take pride of place on "The Singles: Keychains & Snowstorms", an entertaining - if not entirely exhaustive - trawl through their most famous songs. The compilation offers a handy reminder of just how good they were in their pomp, when they delivered such dark, Mascara-clad classics as "Memorabilia", "Bedsitter", the poignant "Say Hello, Wave Goodbye" and, of course, their synth-pop era update of Northern Soul anthem "Tainted Love".

Review: On September 30th 2018, Soft Cell bowed out for the final time after a storming performance at the O2 Arena. It had been organized to celebrate the band's 40th birthday and saw Dave Ball and Marc Almond - whose relationship over the last few decades has been a little fractured to say the least - appear on stage together for the first time since 2002. This double CD and DVD set offers up their entire performance from start to finish; a two-hour romp through their greatest hits and favourite album tracks. There are naturally plenty of highlights, including an emotional "encore" version of "Tainted Love/Where Did Our Love Go", a romp through "Memorabilia" and - most potently of all - their final curtain call: an emotional version of "Say Hello, Wave Goodbye".
