Review: A collaborative EP between 2 Australian rock giants, this limited one-sided collectors disc comprises the 19 minutes long 'Satanic Slumber Party' split into three sections. 'The Chairman's Portrait' intro is a dark, heavily distorted spoken-word piece backed by dark rumbling guitars that explodes into the head-banging electronic banger 'Midnight in Sodom'. The angry lyrics are paired with awesome melodic guitar solos and chiptune noises, before shifting into noise rock territory. 'Hoof and Horn' takes up most of the runtime at a hefty 12 minutes, in which ambient drone begets experimental sound effects that are reminiscent of the liquid bass and synths favoured by producer SOPHIE. The track evolves into a demonic lullaby that wouldn't feel out of place in an episode of American Horror Story, and fans of 2 Mello's 'Atmospheric Horror Music Vol.1' will greatly appreciate this track. The EP is all-in-all a camp experience. An Avante-Garde, quintessentially fun blend of two incredible groups.

Whilst the majority of bands habitually claim to be pursuing a uniquely uncompromising vision, few are as guileless and full-on as the outfit we feast on via 'Murder Of The Universe', one completely unafraid to deal with four-part sagas concerning Tolkein-esque mythical monsters and Japanese cyborgs via a kinetic and combustible melange of garage fury and third-eye-massaging acid visions. Who knows where King Gizzard are heading, but right-thinking folks will be willing them to keep their foot firmly on the accelerator.

Review: Fill Your Lungs is the third album from the acclaimed Aussie psychedelic rock band King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard. It is one of many of theirs getting the reissue treatment right now and it came initially only months after their debut Eyes Like the Sky. The album hit No 12 on the ARIA Albums Chart and marked a quick change in style for the band. This album found them embracing their psychedelic sound even more and featured second drummer Eric Moore using a real drum kit as possessed to the keys and theremin of the debut. It's a greatly experimental album with memserising riffs.

Review: If you've ever examined King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard's back catalogue, the fact they've only been active as a band for eight years might surprise. Releasing an average of two full length records every 12 months since 2012, the fact each of those LPs showcases different, new and often daring sides to the outfit is probably even more reasons to stand up and take notice.

Fittingly, KG, which was first unveiled in November 2020 and now sees a special edition land on the proverbial plate, is laden with surprises - it really just depends with which side of the Gizzard you're already familiar with. 'Automation' sees the Australian group call on their heavy metal and progressive rock roots. 'K.G.L.W.' sounds like it might steal you away to a woodland lute performance. 'Honey' is a garage-y slice of primo rock 'n' folk. 'Intrasport' is like (wait for it) Eastern-hued synth pop.

Taken from performances on Oct 10th, Oct 11th and Nov 2nd of last year, these 80+ cuts run the gamut through the collective's heaviest, softest, most direct and ludicrously impenetrable sonic meanderings, whilst wrapped in individual sleeves with an accompanying photo journal of their great takeover of the Colorado plains.

Review: Aussie psych rockers King Gizzard & The Lizzard Wizard are an insanely productive and prolific group. Petrodragonic Apocalypse Or Dawn Of Eternal Night: An Annihilation Of Planet Earth & The Beginning Of Merciless Damnation is their 24th album and is base don jam sessions that finds them incorporating more heavy metal sounds than ever before. Lead singer Stu Mackenzie has explained that the album's concept is based around "humankind, and it's about planet Earth, but it's also about witches and dragons, and shit." It's a fine follow-up to the band's thrash metal album Infest the Rats' Nest and will keep them well in with fans old and new alike.
