Vara Records return with their third release, and first in over a year, with Romanian minimal producer Little Hado at the helm. Across his small but respected discography, Little Hado has always brought an element of soul to the table and that's certainly present on the four tracks that make up Masaka Trax. Opener "Itsu" shows restraint and darkness, especially in those dank percussive hits, but edge closer to the speaker and there is underlying warmth present. This is more prominent on "Masaka" which has a wonderfully dubby, hollowed out feel to the groove and a deeply resonant bassline, whilst "Oya Sumi" really showcases Hado's talent for intricate rhythms. Closing track "Yatto" brings both abstraction and emotion to the table and is quite powerful.
