The Knives imprint, guided by the shared vision of Kuedo and Joe Shakespeare (Motto Books), debuts with debutant J.G. Biberkopf, a Lithuanian sound collage expert. The man himself has described his extended EP as 'audio theatre' music and this is clearly audible right from the start of "Air Coltan Carbon Lithium", a glitch and rough piece of field recording surrounded by warped drones. "Waters" and "Spirit" reach abstract rhythms thanks to the movement of the filtered sonics within, while "Black Soil" is all doom and hollow, deranged bursts of noise. "Age Of Aquarius" is the more spirited of the lot thanks to the fast-paced synth stabs carrying its groove forwards, whereas "Weakness" enters luminous waters with its aqueous backdrop of sound. A gorgeous first release from both parties!
