Following their celebrated Arthur Russell release, the utterly on-point Arc Light Editions has reissued one of Ingram Marshall's most sought-after compositions of the mid-80's, and one which has inspired a wide spectrum of electronic musicians well into the present day. Using an improvisational work schema consisting of brass instruments and obscure sound effects, Marshall's Fog Tapes is an airy, woollen soundscape with a sinister twist. "Gradual Requiem is split into five chapters, beginning with a mandolin-like sound, before being engulfed by piano keys and eventually becoming more and more sparse as it fades away into an eerie patter of sounds. Real soundtrack stuff this, be sure to take in full form.
