There's always a sense of pleasant surprise when it comes to a new record on Dolly, partly because Steffi doesn't really care for the whole content feed game most labels have to deal with, but mostly down to the sheer standard of artist she chooses to work with. Johannes Volk, Dexter and Martyn are some of the recent contributors to the Dolly cause and it's great to see Rotterdam duo Duplex making their debut here. The First Day EP sees Chris Aarse & John Matze lay down a healthy triplet of fresh sounding West Coast box jams that fit snugly in the Duplex canon alongside their material for Clone, Frantic Flowers and Harbour City Sorrow. Dolly favourite Steven Tang showcases his talent for remixes on "First Day" trading in the deep electro snap of the original for a perma rising exercise in crisp analogue techno.
