  1. Rarely Listening
  2. Humanized Pattern
  3. Seeing
Review: Swiss producer Alci first came to light with a run of releases on Robsoul, before migrating to other climes such as Apollonia. Now he makes a second appearance on his own Seeingsounds label with some refined minimal for those who like their beats crisp and intricate. "Rarely Listening" has a dreamy demeanour, but there's plenty of energy folded into the snappy rhythms and loping bleeps of the track. "Humanized Pattern" meanwhile ramps up the bugging funk for a swung and sassy run through micro house done with a whiff of French flair. "Seeing" resides on the B-side with a gloriously dubbed out line in melodies that float lazily over the top of the sharply focused beat.

  1. Donner (6:58)
  2. Ebertplatz (7:01)
Review: Cologne twosome and renowned "Superfriends" Andhim return to action, this time wielding a large carving scythe and an enormous slab of kebab meat. Thankfully, "Donner" is not a glitchy minimal techno roller made out of manipulated kebab shop samples, but rather an attractive combination of drowsy analogue bass, Middle Eastern-inspired tech-house drums and rising and falling waves of mind-altering melody lines. It's rather tasty, all told (unlike donner meat), as is clandestine flipside "Ebertplatz". While underpinned by a typically Germanic groove and mildly foreboding chords, it's the duo's cascading electronic melodies and mind-bending analogue touches that really catch the ear.

  2. When We Come To It
  3. Koppaitch
Review: Asad Rizvi's bountiful archive of names and tunes continues to yield more fruit, this time in the shape of his Asadinho alias on regular haunt RvS. The bleeps cut through the shuffling drums on the Silverlining Mix of "When We Come To It" in a flurry of late night tech house finery. The original mix of the track is a tougher, slower twist with a straight-ahead groove but plenty of funk drizzled in between the joints. "Koppaitch" spreads itself across the B-side with a sizzling disco groove and more of those mean-tempered synths that project a dark and seedy side to Rizvi's many-sided musical dice.

  2. Memorex (13:12)
Review: Frankfurt's Pressure Trax Silver Series launches the new collaborative trio of Dan Andrei, Andrei Ciubic and Serban Goanta, three artists who are clearly keen to twist up the traditional house formulas associated with the German city. "Eastern Spaghetti", for instance, is the freshest house cut on our charts this week, coming through with a bubbling framework of loopy 4/4 rhythms and tropical percussion twists. The flipside is equally refreshing, with "Memorex" offering up a slow, woozy concoction of shady sonics that make for an endlessly pleasing DJ tool-not-tool. Yup, that's the sort of language this gear gets you on...

  4. MVDC - "Back In The Dayz"
Review: The Memory Box parties have been celebrating the classic foundations of acid house for some time, and now they've launched a label to push their love of squelchy 303 even further. Robin Ball steps up for the first release with some classic examples of how to ride the well-worn machine and keep it sounding fresh like the first rays of morning through the warehouse window. "Acid Stomp" needs little explanation - it teases with some subdued 303 warbles before the real meat of the track kicks in and the frequency starts freaking. "Acid Duck" is a more reduced affair, while collaboration with Neil Tibbetts "Sqolch" works a few deep house elements into the mix. MVDC finish the EP off with the abrasive, grungy thrust of "Back In The Dayz".

This is his second release for local imprint Organik where he serves up the deep, slinky and downright boompty late night groove of "High Line". On the flip it's over to Palma Mallorca based Thomas Esteban aka Tato who runs Wax Isgud with Tania Vulcano. He serves up more power with his contributions such as on "MET" a tough and dubby tech house joint with some truly hypnotic chords doing most of the good work.

Review: For the label's first compilation, Cabaret Records has decided to introduce us to their Alien Family. By the sounds of the collection, they're a motley crew of studio mutants united by a love of creaking hardware, sci-fi synths and intergalactic dancefloor workouts. Happily, highlights are plentiful, from the acid-fired, bleep-heavy throb of S-Audio's "Remote Circuit" and weighty electro crackle of Binh's "Wova", to the dreamy underwater deepness of EK Box's "Watair" and the classic deep house/Detroit techno fusion of So Inagawa's futurist masterpiece "Solitary Affair". Evan Baggs's contribution, the TB-303 madness that is "AZS", is also superb.

Review: Blind Box heads Julien Sandre and Konstress know a thing or two about deep, undulating house grooves, and their continued exploration of immersive cuts for hidden corners of the dance yields further delights on this sixth instalment in the Blind Box series. The first side of this 12" finds the two label bosses twisting out immaculate jams shot through with playful sound design. "Would" locks into a subtle swing and revels in lopsided synth stabs, while "Hedone" plunges into a stunning intricate techno landscape peppered with glitchy tones. On the flip, Julian Alexander follows suit with the crisp, funky "Baku Man" and the more experimental tones of "Casserole".

Review: Over two years at the tail end of the 1990s, Damon Wild and Mederic Nebinger delivered a string of impressive 12" singles as Blue Maxx. 1998's Private Life EP, which featured a trio of untitled tracks, was arguably the strongest of the lot - a fact that perhaps explains the high prices of second-hand copies online. This timely reissue presents all three tracks as they were all those years ago, beginning with the bustling, Motor City-influenced groove and warm, New Jersey style organs of "Track 1". Over on the flip, "Track 2" is a deep and spacey affair, with bleeping, high register melodies and sumptuous chords riding a hybrid electro/techno beat pattern, while "Track 3" is a classic chunk of Detroit techno lusciousness.

Review: The young Dee Bufato steps up on the highly in-demand Sketches Records, out of Germany, with three effective slices of house-driven tech glory! This is pretty minimal gear in case you were wondering, and the opening "Ambedo" flutters its intricate groove in the same style as Villalobos and the rest of the Perlon massive; "Yomoc" stutters with a certain dubbiness that makes for some pretty dreamy textures. Finally, Fumiya Tanaka's remix of the latter tune injects an added layer of dance motion, namely some pretty killer kick-snares to add a bit more movement to the equation. Badness...

Review: As you can imagine, the For Club label's modus operandi is to get people onto their feet and nodding those heads. The core of it is that simple - and so it should be! They kick off with this collaborative opener, with Alan Castro's bleeping house experiment to open the festivities, followed rather smartly by Neik and the supremely glitchy "Hippie Futurista". On the flip, Yanee's "Morph" is an itchy groove filled with all sorts of percussive flair, whereas "North Market At 3 AM" sees Pedro D'Alessandro and Maxi Fried construct a beautifully funky little house number with an elegant swing.

  3. Dub Sine Of The Moon (7:00)
Review: Argentine techno survivor Franco Cinelli has been busy of late, dropping EPs of fresh material on Untold Stories, Raum Musik and Savor Music. Here he dips into the vaults to deliver another three-track missive for Unlock. Stretched across the A-side you'll find Cinelli's lauded but previously digital-only remix of Saccobros's "Why Not". Commissioned and originally released back in 2009, it's a warm, rolling and hypnotic affair where jazzy cymbals, spacey riffs and trippy effects combine to create a hazy late night mood. On the flip you'll find two previously unreleased cuts from the archives: the slick and rolling minimal/tech-house fusion of "Morph Side" and the electro-flecked dub house hypnotism of "Dub Sine of the Moon".

Review: Spain's Coyu and Bastian Bux's studio sessions are showing great results. This one is for local powerhouse Suara, who have presented some killer releases recently by the likes of Jeremy Olander, Camelphat and the Sao Paulo legend Victor Ruiz. The duo present us with two original tracks that are ripe for the summer season and proper indications to understand the new musical path Suara is taking this 2017. "Satara" features a fierce warehouse techno arrangement; banging about in reverb and aggression with a mesmerising harpsichord melody for good measure. On the flip, "Umbral" goes for cruise control on this moody and atmospheric chugger, that mixes some ethereal and hypnotic qualities in with more immaculately programmed drums and sublime melodies.

Review: Alessandro Crimi returns to Open Recordings after appearing alongside Frazer Campbell and S. Moreira last year, this time enjoying the full spread of the record to impart his particular vision of deep techno. There's washes of chords aplenty spilling out of "Seashore Walk" while the groove stays cool and steady, and then Janeret comes bowling in with a pumped up beat to bring the party to a more overt party destination. "Night Dive" cools things down once more with its swirling, seductive notes and tightly clipped drums, while Frazer Campbell returns to deliver a more uptempo version that maintains the mystery inherent in Crimi's original.

Review: Gramaphone crew member and Smart Bar resident Garrett David is proudly extending his city's musical dynasty. The Chicago wiz-kid lands on the Residual imprint with four killer house-techno hybrids, each one of them unafraid to unleash some proper jackin' business. "Rhythm Box" is your prototypical slice of raw house, catapulted into insanity by some raucous EBM-style vocal samples, whereas "FRXS Medley" reminds us of DJ Funk's more minimal material for Dance Mania. The B-side kicks off with "Don't Fuck With Shmoo", an utterly deranged piece of gnarly analogue house funk, and ties this magnetic EP up with the much smoother, jazzy vibes of "Wassup".

Review: Whisper it quietly, but Difid is one of the most frequent contributors to the top-secret YYY series. The label unmasked him earlier this year while launching their YYY LTD sub-label and he recently contributed a fine track to another YYY sub-label, Aku. Pleasingly, all three tracks on the producer's latest vinyl missive are pretty darn hot. He begins by wrapping chiming electronics and a thrusting, acid-fired bassline around pleasingly swinging house beats on "Deadly Stone", before upping the BPM to techno tempo on the thrusting but spacey box jam that is "Road To Nowhere". His intergalactic instincts are explored further on "Land of Illusion", which sits somewhere between Motor City techno, woozy French tech-house and clanking Chicago jack.

Review: Ah yes, it was about time that Beatrice Dillon and Call Super got into the studio together and, quite frankly, there would be no better place to house the results that London's game-defining Hessle Audio. Both artists have been close associates of the label for some time, and this collaboration feels exactly where the imprint should be at the moment - meandering effortlessly between the more experimental side of techno, and molecular shade of bass music. "Inkjet", the A-side swelter, oozes spewing beats from all corners of its glitchy, almost minimalistic framework of grey-scaled melodies and fiery, FX-laden atmposherics. On the fip, "Fluo" is a different form of construction altogether, laying the groundwork for what could become a fruitful relationship between free jazz and UK bass, where a steady 4/4 groove is brought to life by curious harmonic blends and sporadic changes of tempo. Yes to the Hessle crew!

Review: In some ways, Discret Popescu (AKA producer Alin Crihan) is not your average Romanian tech-house producer. On his 12" singles to date, he's managed to elevate the country's trademark sound to new levels of warmth and funkiness, primarily through the use of sounds and stylistic ticks more often found in deep house. He's at it again this time round, combining a typically liquid, locked-in groove with heavy bass and sneaky hip-hop samples on the spacey-but-funky "Usurel De Vara". Extended flipside cut "Tu Tonight" explores similar sonic territory, with looped riffs, spooky noises and short, sharp spoken word vocals perfectly complimenting a hypnotic, late night rhythm.

Review: Long serving International Deejay Gigolos boss DJ Hell is having rather a productive year. His latest release, which follows on from the unashamedly Kraftwerk-esque "Car, Car, Car", sees him explore a range of woozy, downtempo influences from the late '70s and early '80s. At 14 minutes long, the extended version of "Anything Anytime" is something of an epic. It never outstays its welcome, though, with Hell using it as an opportunity to tease out a woozy, lovable, heart-felt soundscape smothered in dirt-encrusted electronics, warm vintage synthesizer flourishes and a quirky vocoder vocal. And, of course, some rather odd modular pulses. Solomun provides a more dancefloor-centric remix on the flipside, smartly re-inventing the track as a chunk of bubbling dancefloor electro.

Review: Chicago legend DJ Jes has been releasing steadily since 1995 on legendary imprints such as Siesta, Afterhours and NRK, through to Karlovak and even his own Fresca Recordings imprint that ran from 2000 - 2003. This release follows up 2014's Closer To Freedom EP on Tardis: a label run by Eli Verveine and Oscar Schubaq that pursues the dubbier end of minimal house. It starts off in fine fashion with the funky and slightly discofied loops of "No Fooling"on the A side. On the flip, the title track "Between The Lines" is tough deep house with delay drenched keys and gritty SP1200 style beats while the deep tribalist groove of "Lost" is trippy afterhours style business. More great work from an underrated hero of the Windy City underground on offer here.
