Techno
  1. Static (6:13)
  2. Shadow Play (6:35)
  3. Walking Distance (6:50)
Review: Label-hopping techno stalwart Antigone won heaps of praise for both his first outing on Token, 2015's expansive Cantor Dust, and Aprl's follow-up, Saudade. Happily, we can confirm that it's business as usual for the Parisian on this third outing. There's a pleasingly no-nonsense feel about A-side "Static", a mid-set techno roller crafted from metallic percussion hits, relentless hi-hats, and similarly resonant lead lines. Flip to the B for the hushed, restless percussion, ghostly textures and icy effects of "Shadow Play", and the pleasingly psychedelic, late night wrongness of "Walking Distance". Pleasingly, the latter track gets progressively weirder and wilder as it rolls along.

Techno
  1. Vocabulary (5:52)
  2. Nonuser (6:12)
  3. The Wave (6:47)
Review: Token has been home to all of CTRLS work since he appeared in 2012, and Nonuser solidifies what has been a very fruitful relationship. The follow up to 2015's Users (it's not hard to see a pattern emerging), it starts with "Vocabulary". Tight, steely rhythms provide a basis for bleak synths that break and burst like grey waves against a harbour wall. The title track is more of a heads-down affair, as the Danish producer realises his vision for looped techno, albeit one where razor sharp hats and a bleating siren cut through the dense rhythms. Finally, there's a deeper track, "The Wave". Based on a dense, percussive groove, those incremental progressions up and down the melody scale that will set spines tingling.

  2. Those Who Obey (4:33)
  3. Answer My Prayer (5:59)
  4. No Other Gods Before Me (5:48)
Review: The debut, self-titled Eschaton release from Ancient Methods and Orphx provided Belgian techno powerhouse Token with one of THE defining 12"s of 2014. Given the rapturous applause for the project, it's no surprise to see Token boss Kr!z has been knocking at the door of casa Methods and Orphx to get some more Eschaton material. The four-track Eschaton II sees the German-Canadian production unit offer up a more varied approach together without losing any of the industrial menace that made their debut offering such a compelling proposition. Big drums are the marauding, dominating element on opener "Deus Irae", whilst "Those Who Obey" pulls you through the abstracted, industrial mire. "Answer My Prayer" sounds primed to soundtrack a clubscene in any mooted sequel to the Wesley Snipes-fronted Blade series whilst the appropriately-named closer "No Other Gods Before Me" is an invitation to wander through the sonic equivalent of Dante's Inferno.

  1. Submerged Metropolitan (6:20)
  2. Fallen Columns (4:40)
  3. This Absent Mind (5:14)
Review: Peak time techno expert Ashley Burchett returns with more hard hitting and functional DJ tools for Belgian imprint Token. "Submerged Metropolitan" is exactly the kind of furious and tunnelling hypnotism that you can expect to hear him thrash out at places like Berlin's Berghain on the regular, with its steely patterns and entrancing loops. "Falling Columns" is perhaps the most sensitive and introverted piece of work we've heard from Burchett yet and a welcome change with its lower tempo and seductive atmospherics providing some great mood lighting for warm up sets. Finally "This Absent Mind" gets back to the program on this tough, stripped back and cyclical exercise, that just begs to be combined with other patterns or tools; those dubby chords ease in gradually lending a greta touch.

  9. Shadow Caster
  10. Self Deceit
Review: Over the course of the eight tracks to appear on Frames Of Reference, the long-time coming debut album by O [Phase], the Englishman draws upon ideas he's been fine tuning for more than a decade. Of the fresh material is the rich bass and sinister crawl of "On The Edge", the haunted glass whistles of "Dirtro II" and the respective electro and dubby leaning "Just Another Dance" and "Shadow Caster". Rearranged riffs come via the LP's opening track "Binary Opposition (process 3)" which sets the tone for a heady mix of no frills techno undeniably designed for club play. It's an impressive debut which incorporates elements of muscular European rhythmics with passages of motor city mechanics and melodic tonality.

Review: Hotflush alumnus Sigha has long been one of the UK's premier exponents of dark and gothic techno, developing a signature style that puts pitch-black textures and paranoid atmospherics at the heart of the action. Metabolism is the producer's long-awaited second album, and his first since joining the Token label back in 2015. The 12-track set continues in a similar vein to his previous releases, serving up moody, club-ready cuts that veer from the deep and intricate to the intense and forthright, via the kind of clandestine, otherworldly fare that's deliciously difficult to pigeonhole. Predictably, it's a formula that guarantees consistently impressive results.

Techno
  1. Christ Figures (8:02)
  2. New Puritan (9:05)
Review:  Very few can do po-faced, gothic techno as eloquently as the UK's dark lord Sigha, the Our Circula sound main man returning on Belgian hard techno imprint Token with the rather restrained "Christ Figures" which makes up for the kind of aggression most usually associated with him (and the label), with its exploration in tension, texture and functionality. Second offering "Puritan" explores the same path of dystopian hypnotism in the tradition of greats like Mike Parker or Donato Dozzy; strap yourself in for this one, it's one wild journey!

Review: Hotflush alumnus Sigha has long been a masterful exponent of dark and gothic techno, developing a signature style that puts pitch-black textures and paranoid atmospherics at the heart of the action. Metabolism is the producer's second full length, and his first since joining Token in 2015. The 12-track set is in a similar vein to his previous work, with the 12 tracks flitting between deep and intricate explorations, more forthright workouts, and clandestine cuts that shy away from easy categorization. 5. A Sea In The Cave (6:05)
  6. Ascension (1:13)
Review: Few do cyclical, hypnotic techno quite as well as Tadeo. The Spanish producer has plied his no-nonsense wares on a variety of top techno labels over the years, including Token. Here he returns to the Belgian label with six more sizeable slabs. After beginning with the electronic-meets-orchestral interlude of "On The Way To Reykjavik", he dives straight into tried-and-tested waters with the intense techno drums, marimba style melodies and horror organs of "Long Time Ago". "The Labyrinth" and "The Globular Way" are both rock solid examples of his usual loop-techno style, as is the wilder and weirder "A Sea In The Cave". Fittingly, he finishes with the jazz-flecked ambient bliss of "Ascension".
