  1. Interform (8:33)
  2. Untunnel (8:47)
Review: Although we have nothing but respect for Will Bankhead's TTT imprint, we can't help but think that there is naturally more to say about those releases on the label which actually have beats and bass at their core. The noisier, more ambient end of the spectrum is absolute class but, as you can imagine, something of this particular ilk is easier to propose across the board. Bass Cleff is back for his second appearance on the label and it's clear that the producer is making it his goal to carve out a fresh, more house-centric sound these days. "Interform" is everything a dub techno tune should be, but that often isn't; it's full of dread bass and dubby sub tones that give way to a sparse, raw bundle of drums that stumble helter-skelter about the groove. "Untunnel" is similarly off-kilter, except that here Bass Cleff has favoured a more typical 'bass' approach to launch his 4/4 attack. This is a magnificent EP, and it's safe to say that this artist is outperforming much of the hardcore house crew. BIG.

Review: Blawan's new side project Bored Young Adults is up next on Will Bankhead's label The Trilogy Tapes. The Shy Dancers On Bungalowdorf Beach features some restrained and slow burning techno experiments that differ from Jamie Robert's more usual hard-hitting sounds. The seething title track treads the same path as Kassem Mosse or Vactrol Park. The Fentanyl techno of "But We Need This Bench" sounds like an old Regis record played on -8, while devoted fans of the young UK producer's sound will get something a bit more familiar on the menacing hypnotic techno grinder "Check Up From The Neck Up".

Review: The partnership of Kassem Mosse and Beatrice Dillon; Dillon Wendel is a place for the two respected artists to explore soundscapes, aesthetics and synthesis in pastures aeons away from the dancefloors they're most familiar with. Both compositions weighing in over 15 minutes, they're experiences which challenge form and convention; "Pulse" ripples with its namesake, a texture that buzzes and drones in endless waves while "High" mutates a warmer, grainer tone with dizzying effect.

  4. Schropferesque (7:33)
Review: Aphasia finds Dutch producer Ekman return for a single release on Will Bankhead's expertly curated label The Trilogy Tapes after a sell-out debut turn on the compelling UAE concern Bedouin Records. The title track may confuse those Ekman fans seduced by the clutch of 2014 releases from the Dutchman that were defined by their guttural, frazzled take on electro as "Aphasia" offers a new sense of production clarity. There is a spectral feel that tends to distract you from all the little detail that makes up the production, though the epic, gauzy, lo-fi madness of "I Only Hit You 'Cause I Love You" is worthy of a Panzerkreuz release (shame about the title). "Rook" hits pretty hard too, with snapping hi-hats and a quite unpredictable lead acid line.

  1. I'm Still Dizzy (9:01)
  2. I Man A Canary Bird (8:42)
Review: Call Super's various aliases are beginning to sound synonymous with The Trilogy Tapes' oddball flex, and we have to say that they are probably among our favourite house and techno releases of recent years. This time Elmo Crumb is is moniker, and the sounds are as a sparse and explorative as ever; the arrangement of the nine-minute bomb "I'm Still Dizzy" is deep and intricate, filled with spectral sounds that are constructed with a clean analogue sound that sounds almost organic in texture. "I Am A Canary Bird" is similarly loose, except that the beat is more driving here, wrapped in a noticeably more techno-like coating that is bound to make the perfect companion to all sorts of rave frivolities. Stellar 12" from TTT; on form, as always.

  4. Take My Heart
Review: With the Juno research minions still none the wiser as to the true identity of Rezzett, Will Bankhead unveils another absolute mind killer from origin unknown in the shape of the Believe EP by Levantis. Don't look hopefully at that search engine son cos it won't help you here, instead bask in perhaps the best TTT transmission of the year. Opening track "Music Hall" feels less like a musical arrangement and more like a living breathing entity for the first few minutes then suddenly it finds a wonderfully rewarding house beat buried deep beneath the claustrophobic murk and that's it, you are hooked. It's positively cheery in comparison to "Pieces" which sounds like the sonic equivalent of being dragged to hell, whilst those seeking respite will find solace in "Take My Heart". Here mangled textures that feel like they're slowly enveloping themselves and some insistent rhythms built from recycled drums combine in a manner that has you slipping the needle back to that 1 mm gap midway through the vinyl to bask in it all once more.

  1. Skip (intro) (5:51)
  2. Sequoflec (2:28)
  3. IE (6:01)
  4. Curtain Scene (3:29)
Review: Skip Intro sees Leipzig artist Mix Mup return to The Trilogy Tapes having scored one of the best releases on Will Bankhead's label so far with that KM/MM LP alongside friend and confidant Kassem Mosse. Though closely associated with the Workshop man, Mix Mup has really developed his own style over the course of the past decade of releases and Skip Intro might be his best work yet. His is a subtle touch; see the manner in which Mix Mup teases an Asian melodic refrain out of nowhere to dominate the title track. Both "Sequoflec" and "IE" are the kind of drum tracks you'll hear Ben UFO slip into a set and wonder for ages what they are, whilst the midi sax on "Curtain Scene" makes it sound like a hollowed out remix of Pender Street Steppers jam "Love Theme (Angelo)".

Review: Philadelphia duo _moonraker delivered the excellent Remota Instruere EP on Philadelphia concern Great Circles earlier this year, and they obviously caught the attention of Trilogy Tapes mastermind Will Bankhead, as the Lowjit Vagrants EP marks their debut release for the label. Their highly experimental brand of techno is the kind of thing designed to warp minds and confuse limbs on the dancefloor, with the bitcrushed syncopations of "Oronimbus" offering the most floor-friendly cut here. "Plot Query" sends things even further into space with its 145bpm pace offset by a starry field of sound drifting by. "Cyan Lean" sounds quite literally like moondust falling through the atmosphere, while "Tilt March" sees their sound retreat into a sonic slurry with all the complexity of Actress and Morphosis jamming underwater. Essential wares from TTT once again...

Review: The forty -fourth release on Will Bankhead's highly lauded The Trilogy Tapes comes from Born Free co-founder Samo DJ, previously responsible for a fine cassette mix for the label as well as that Four Legs 12" with Skudge's Elias Landberg. Given the Swede's eclectic approach, it's perhaps unsurprising that Kicked Out of Everywhere is a pleasingly mixed-up affair. Opener "Bleeps" drags the fuzzy, sparse and bass-heavy sound of Early British techno kicking and screaming into the industrial techno age (admittedly via the broken beats of West London), while "LKF" is simultaneously dreamy, trippy and rhythmically intense. Some may hear the influence of early Belgian techno in the slippery throb of "Medellin", while the weird, spaced-out "Downer" sounds like hazy jazz after several shoe boxes full of Ketamine. Samo DJ for President!

Review: Given the respective recent outputs of Low Jack and D.K, you'd expect this first collaborative missive under the Slack DJ's alias to be rather good. It is, of course, though it's probably the most experimental release either producer has been involved with. Opener "Hoops" sets the tone, offering a befuddled trip through chopped-up, constantly changing leftfield techno territory - all beaten-up rhythms, dubbed-out electronics and odd noises. There's a slightly more dreamy feel to "75011", though it still sounds like it was recorded in a cement mixer full to the brim with sand and gravel. Flip for two takes on "Glasshouse Mountain", where D.K's gorgeous synthesizers are put through the ringer in the company of edgy, otherworldly rhythms and end-of-days effects.

Review: There is certainly a devilish streak to The Trilogy Tapes this year, the label's output redolent of its earlier years when Will Bankhead wilfully put out the oddest tapes amidst mixes from Ben UFO and Kassem Mosse. Following some quite superb records from Accident Du Travail and Carl Gari & Abdullah Miniawy, TTT slip back into the international avant-garde for the Vida LP from Portuguese duo Tropa Macaca. Formed of Andre Abel and Joana da Conceicao, Tropa Macaca are a long-running experimental act who fans of the Software label may remember for the Ectoplasma single a few years ago. Freeform electronic experimentation is the order of the day on Vida, as Abel and da Conceicao burrow deep into the world of texture, tone, timbre and, occasionally, rhythm.
