Techno
  1. R38
  2. Em A Ai
  3. R38 (Milton Bradley remix)
Review: One half of Northern Structures Lasse Buhl launches his solo career on Echocord Colour with an Adam X-inspired EP. R38 sees the Danish label push further into an industrial realm to what the imprint is perhaps known for, with the metallic undertones and rubber band synths of the title track sounding like something to come out of K209's basement studio. Buhl slows down the BPM and spreads the beats in "Em A Ai", resulting in a track that sounds like Regis-techno played incorrectly at 33rpm. The K209 connection returns via a Milton Bradley remix to "R38" which sounds like a Giorgio Gigli production, only with less reverb and a decipherable groove.

  1. Put On Your Red Shoes & Trance (9:21)
  2. Just Jackin Around Man (8:55)
Review: Given his near two-decade quest to create minimalist dance music shot through with the warm weight of dub, you'd expect this EP from Scott 'Deadbeat' Monteith to hit the spot. It does, of course, though it's noticeably bolder and more 'in-your-face' than much of his output. While A-side "Put On Your Red Shoes & Trance" is typically hypnotic and stretched-out, it's power comes from Monleith's manipulation of raw, Plastikman style acid lines. Flipside "Just Jackin Around Man" pushes the producer's banging percussion to the fore, with subtle cymbal hits, occasional drum fills and quirky vocal samples combining brilliantly with a simple synth riff.

Techno
  1. Bent (6:14)
  2. Repeat Rate (6:41)
  3. Good Vibrations (6:27)
Review: Brendon Moeller dons the notorious Echologist moniker again for some superbly executed dub techno experiments and finds a rather fitting home on Kenneth Christiansen's Echocord imprint. The slo-mo, sci-fi dub of "Bent" is so vivid and smoked out that you can almost hear the lighter going off in the background; some serious darkside bass therapy on this one. "Repeat Rate" is more straight ahead on this stomping yet hypnotic techno track with some immaculate dub chords. Finally on "Good Vibrations" he works those resonators and dub delays like a true master in a wonderful exercise in restraint that's perfect to build the vibe or equally transition out of the peak time with style.

  1. Emerald (6:28)
  2. Lumen (6:50)
  3. Myriads (6:46)
Review: There are few surprises on Luke Hess's latest vinyl outing on Echochord's colour series, just a trio of fluttering, tried-and-tested techno workouts. Opener "Emerald" boasts a typically trippy and hypnotic groove, but also some heart-aching chord progressions and suitably melancholic melody lines. The late night hypnotism is also present on the slightly more boisterous "Lumen", in which the producer fires darting synthesizer lines and cyclical melody loops at a locked-in groove. In a possible bid to impress those who like their techno funkier and more forthright, he reaches for the foreboding acid lines and pounding kick-drums on cymbal-heavy closer "Myriads".

  1. Ecto (7:35)
  2. Mocto (6:24)
  3. Morphing (6:21)
Review: With this release, Echochord welcomes back an old friend. Resoe released a fine album on the Danish imprint back in 2011, before leaving to concentrate on establishing his Baum Records label. He slips straight back into the groove on A-side "Ecto", pairing crispy, crunchy drums and toasty chords with dub techno influenced riffs. The dustier, more distorted "Mocto" sounds like a late night, outer space re-imagining of the A-side, while "Morphing" is a metallic tech-house cut of the type that Swag used to release in great quantities back in the early 2000s.
