  1. Move (Rebuilt)
  2. Rewind (Rebuilt)
Review: Classic Sheffield bleep soul business... CPU celebrate their half a century with these crystalline rebuilds of two 1990 Detromental classics. Now more commonly known as D Ramirez, Detromental was one of Dean Marriott's earliest endeavours, and the grooves have matured exceptionally well. "Move" is the breezier affair with real acid chops when the riff kicks in while "Rewind" has more of a jacking drive to the drums and a fluid sense of narrative that flips from section to section, bassline to bassline. Class materials like these will never die.

Review: To date, Rhys "Microlith" Celeste has delivered two cracking 12" singles for Sheffield's Central Processing Unit label, so hopes are naturally high for his debut full-length. Happily, Dance With Me is a bit of a doozy. Sitting somewhere between the underwater intensity of Drexciya, the cheery melodiousness of Artificial Intelligence era Warp releases, and the spacey sound of vintage British intelligent techno, the album bristles with bubbly acid lines, ambient chords, punchy drum machine rhythms, and heady, Motor City inspired melodies. It's mostly dancefloor-ready, but also works as an album that you can enjoy to from start to finish. You can't really ask for any more from a debut album.

Review: Sheffield's Central Processing Unit return with Andriy Vezdenko aka Andrew Noumen: an experimental electronic producer from Lviv, Ukraine who describes himself as composer, sound researcher, artist, designer and performer. He debuts for the label with his LP titled Apeiron this year and "White Silence" is the first single taken from the album; a broken hi-tech mindbender that is reminiscent of Surgeon's work in recent times; we really enjoyed this trip where its splintered and mangled rhythms intersect with hypnotic chime melodies. The off kilter IDM shenanigans continue on the glitchy and hyper aware bodybasher "Fear" while on "Alpha & Omega" he does his best impression of Tri Repatae era Autechre. Quality stuff from this label as always and highly recommended.

Review: In our eyes, at least, Central Processing Unit was the most consistent label of 2016. The Sheffield imprint has started 2017 in fine fashion, too, with this debut album from Ukranian producer Andriy Vezdeno AKA Noumen. Aperion is a fine set of off-kilter electronic treats, drawing on a wide range of classic and contemporary influences. There are mutant, Autechre-like moments, uncompromising electro workouts a la Drexciya, nods to braindance-era Rephlex releases, melodious explorations of Boards of Canada territory, and thrillingly mangled interpretations of drum & bass. In other words, it's a hugely enjoyable, turbo-charged sprint through Vezdenko's contemporary interpretations of classic IDM tropes.

Review: Alek Stark aka Serafin Gallego is a Madrid electro producer. He is also known for his work on Transient Force Records, Disko B, Last Known Trajectory, Titan's Halo and his label Fundamental Records. Also known as Invisible Man and Afterfuture, he is responsible for some pretty impressive releases in the last 15 years. His 808 boxes, DMX drum machine replica and design for Fundamental Records is legendary in the electro fraternity. He pulls no punches on this release with heavy 808 percussion alongside a myriad of modular noise and synth workouts. Cold and robotic with deep chorused pads creating an off-world dystopian theme that runs throughout this release.
