  1. We Come To Rock (6:43)
  2. Buck Stoppin (7:15)
Review: Acid house hooligans Paranoid London are back with another session of raw hardware driven shenanigans on the We Come To Rock EP. On the A side, the title track is one totally infectious and funky groove which boldly declares "We come to rock!" no guesses where that sample comes from and that perfect amount of dust and overdrive coats this gutsy vintage flavoured groove. On the flip "Buck Stoppin" sounds like classic Egyptian Lover on this surefire DJ tool with an emphasis on some killer vintage drum machine rhythms.

Cat: FP 2. Rel: 25 Jul 16
  1. Kuiper (17:45)
  2. For Marmish (part 2) (14:04)
Review: Having co-founded the now mythical Eglo Records, Sam Shepherd aka Floating Points has, more recently, begun to release his music through his own Pluto label, an imprint with a clear vision from the music to the artwork. Moreover, the label also gives Shepherd room to explore outside of his more traditional housey framework, and the majority of the releases on Pluto have consisted of wild and diverse shreds of broken beat and nu jazz. "Kuiper" is his latest excursion and it's a psychedelic journey through high-powered percussion and airy synth experimentations all wrapped up in a suave jazz coating. "For Mamish (part 2)" is something altogether sparser and less concrete, but there is still plenty of movement amid Shepherd's crystal sounds and Balearic riffs in what sounds like the perfect new age sort of amalgamation. Excellent.

Review: While Fantastic Man's material has been in and out of our shelves since 2011, it was this year's LP for Paris' Antinote that really grabbed our attention. "Rhythm Algorithm" for Superconscious follows a similarly wacked-out vision of house, and the title track itself is a stunning bullet made of ricocheting percussion and spectral melodies. "Trance Sexual" is a bumping, Chicago-leaning house banger that'll mix like perfection into just about anything, whereas "Fittin' & Turnin' (All Day)" is deconstructed by comparison, a hypnotic and highly frenetic sort of house jacker that rings and twists frantically from start to finish. Class.

Review: REPRESS ALERT: Dungeon Meat are back after 2 well received EP's from Point G and Mr G with some serious claw to the floor club weapons. Welcoming another new addition to their brigade of beat butchers, it's the Dutch producer and DJ known as Larry de Kat who drops a fine feline selection for his Purrr-versions EP . Four killer tracks which showcase his diversity and perversity in the studio . There's no doubt that this selection will do the damage on the dance floor and bring even more attention to this undeniable talent.

Review: Politics Of Dancing Records releases another brilliant 4 tracker, from Paris underground house very own, Chris Carrier, with a featuring from Gauthier DM and remixes from Tommy Vicari Jnr and John Jastszebski. Illusion Dust is a powerful bass driven House banger, with a serious deep as you can get remix from Sheffield's wizard Tommy Vicari Jnr. Review: The mysterious Crue have been putting out solid house whites for the past four years, and still we're waiting to know who's behind this enigmatic little project. What YOU need to know, however, is that a tune like "Crue A" doesn't come around too often, and its warm, dubby glow fits in ever so will with the scorching waves of disco at its core. The flipside, "Crue B", jingles and dangles its 70s wings in similar fashion, this time spear-headed by a bumpier, more explosive groove. Choice cuts!

  2. French Girls (3:45)
  3. Sun Ra (5:28)
  4. Can't (6:14)
Review: To date, Jordan "Mall Grab" Alexander has barely put a foot wrong. Like many other Melbournian contemporaries, Alexander specializes in deep house that's variously deep, jazzy and dreamy, but always delightfully dusty. Happily, he touches on all three directions on this superb EP for Church. The jazz aspect comes to the fore on jaunty opener "Down", where vintage piano samples ride a swinging, bass-and-cymbal heavy groove. The Australian does his best Florist impression on the ultra-deep, bongo-driven bliss of "French Girls", while title track "Sun Ra" sounds like a tooled-up take on Pender Street Steppers' deepest moments. Finally, he combines effortless jazziness with bumpin' deepness on the standout "Can't".

Review: The Melbourne artist most commonly known as Andras Fox reaffirms his bright light status with a mini-album under a new alias, House Of Dad, which arrives as the debut release on the label of the same name. Fox, real name Andy Wilson, has been in impressive form across a number of projects of late - Andras, A.R.T. Wilson and the Wilson Tanner collaboration with John Tanner among them - and fans of his rich approach to production will delight in this House Of Dad endeavour. Described as an homage to his plumber father, the six tracks veer from Gigi Masin-style piano meanderings to pattering electro workouts and deep house shufflers. Throughout it all, Wilson's measured talent for instrumentation shines through.

Review: Church has certainly grown into one of London's most dependable house music outlets these past few years across their various interlinked label divisions. The emergence of Laurence Guy is testament to that - last year he debuted on Church with the well-received Kojak EP, and has gone on to prove his worth across a number of 12" releases and V/A contributions. Bamboo sees him back in the Church fold for their ninth White Label release and it's a confident four-track display of measured deep house. From the warbling melodies of the title track to the Smallville stylings of "Knotweed" and "Lotus", Guy is clearly improving with each release!

Review: Back in 2014, Patrice Scott gathered together a quartet of tracks from friends in the house and techno community and whacked them out under the Genesis Tracks banner. This belated follow-up repeats the same recipe for success, once again showcasing four cuts from big-hitting artists. Scott steps up first with the swirling, dreamy, intergalactic deep house bliss of "Seasons Change", before boogie revivalist Reggie Dokes joins the dots between analogue deep house and synth-funk on the sublime "The Baptism". Flip for the metronomic, riff-heavy deep house pulse of "Gossamar" by Eric Cloutier, and a killer, up-tempo analogue deep house jam from the hugely talented Kai Alce.

  2. Oasis (Moscoman rework) (6:51)
  3. The Dynamic Energy (Moscoman rework) (6:25)
Review: Since 2014, Moscoman has worked hard to reach the reputation he's at now, and that comes in part to the music he's released on ESP Institute and Cosmo Vitelli's I'm A Cliche. But not simply relying on others to put out his music, Moscoman launched Disco Halal last year which has already notched up a whopping 10 releases, including a reissue of Tony Carey's 1984 album as TCP, which he indulgently remixes three times on this release. Appropriately, Moscoman tackles the album's title-track, shining a spotlight on the production's chorus of vocals, while the "Oasis" remix plays with Italo melodies, subtle middle eastern themes in a producton almost made for a Beverly Hills Cop scene. "A Voice Across The Nile" opens the 12" with a slinky drum track however Moscoman does let a cascading synth open up for some undeniable '80s vibes.

  1. COOL Band - "Jam 1" (3:34)

Review: While a lot of PPU's time is spent unearthing, reviving and liberating classic boogie, disco, funk and soul from the 80s and 90s, it's also home to troves of authentic grooves tailored in contemporary times... And long-standing label fam Benedek is one of the most consistent forces behind it all. The excellently titled C.O.O.L Band and Manzanem are two of his latest guises; the former is a real Sunday afternoon lazy vibe, like an electro boogie record on at half speed with thundering weight on the powerful kicks while the latter takes us deeper into the late 80s with a Mr Fingers' style trip into primordial house music. Pure synth odysseys, the pair of them.

  1. Music (6:32)
  2. Tell You No Lie (8:31)
Review: A taster for Robert Hood's second Floorplan album, this EP puts a spotlight on the radical nature of his musical transformation. On "Music", the visceral rhythms of techno minimalism are gone; in their place is a rolling, tracky groove that boasts a repetitive vocal loop and which has shades of classic Relief /Derrick Carter. "Tell You No Lie" is even more impressive. It sees Hood use a gospel vocal over a stomping, funk guitar-sampling disco house workout. There is an audibly religious dimension to "Tell You No Lie," but Hood's knack for writing a great tune means that it sounds celebratory rather than self-indulgent or preachy.

Review: Number 14th comes with some serious grooves by a new project of one of the first artist of the label... Salt is a perfect combination of old school House vibes and modern grooves. "Franck White" is a timeless track with a rising melody that drives you until the end and beyond. "Sedould" goes into another path with a never ending groove infected by some killer vocals. Not content with running the Mulen and Mulen People imprints he's launched a third label Moi (get it?) which is up to its fifth release. We can't really tell why he started it and what makes it different from his other outlets but to be honest we're not complaining when his output is this good; the more the better! "Track 1" has a tough and rolling groove comparable to his recent hit "Stick Out" on Cardinal; real sleek. On flip "Track 2" gets some funky cyclic groove happening that's hypnotic as much as it is infectious. As with all of this guy's releases they're hot and limited so get in quick.

Review: Brian Not Brian's Going Good imprint has thus far proved particularly good at defying convention in favour of harder-to-pigeonhole thrills. Who better to turn to, then, that Ewan Jansen, a producer who has been delivering off-kilter house music on and off since 1997. Predictably, Lost Embers is an intriguing diverse and atmospheric set, variously touching on dreamy, Aphex Twin style ambience ("Ethernet" and "Analogue Vista"), loose-limbed techno positivity ("Weatherboard" and "Mantle Ships"), jazz-flecked downtempo brilliance (the fantastic "Tracking Olympus"), and Mood Hut/1080p style new age deep house eccentricity ("Dark Jazz Delay"). While pleasingly varied, it all feels typically warm and dusty, as you'd expect from a producer who still values analogue hardware.

Review: Having launched Black Venison with the Benz EP back in 2014, James Vorres returns to his own imprint for the first time since. He's in full-on floor-friendly mode from the off, layering up iconic diva vocals, woozy chords and bumpin' beats before unleashing weighty sub-bass on anthem-like opener "Brique". S Olbricht remixes the same track, underpinning a hardcore-era breakbeat and pitched-up vocal stabs with sustained analogue bass notes. On the flip, Vorres goes deeper and woozier on the deliciously tactile "Innerside", before completing an excellent EP with the swinging goodness of U.S garage revivalist number "Gonnaarp". An EP that's all hits, with no misses.

  3. JT Donaldson - "First Things First" (6:42)
  4. Spencer Kincy - "Wanna' Push You" (6:26)
Review: Get your hands on a proper piece of US deep house history. Legend has it that the legendary Spencer Kincy aka Gemini packed it in and moved from the Windy City to Dallas, Texas for a while to hang out with good buddy and equally revered JT Donaldson in the late nineties and some of those fantastic sessions are captured here. Kincy's contributions are "Soho", a stripped and subtle minimal house groove that is hypnotic as much as it is bumping. Speaking of bumping, his other track "Wanna Push You" on the flip has some right boompty flavour like only a Chicagoan can on this cut up disco loop killer. Donaldson's offerings include the rolling and emotive groove on "Changing Times" and the more uplifting and smooth "First Things First" with swirling Rhodes and eerie synth leads.

Review: Ahead of the release of his sophomore solo full-length on Honest Jon's, the much lauded London imprint has served up this three-track teaser 12". Predictably, Mosse is in fine form, with A-side "Chilazon 1" offering a near perfect fusion of acid house wiggle, German techno hypnotism, and trippy, late night funk. "Chilazon II" offers a wilder, weirder take on the same track, with Mosse mixing up loose, broken techno rhythms, dub techno style distortion, and razor-sharp cymbal hits. Finally, the Workshop head honcho serves of "Lanthanum", where off-kilter drum machine rhythms are joined by spaced-out percussion hits, occasional dub-flecked riffs, and copious amounts of tape delay.

There's absolutely no guesswork when it comes to this series of wicked 10" releases; they've been pretty good so far. On the A side is some smooth and jazzy groove that samples Alfonso's old digger's delight "This Is Underground" and indeed it is pretty sweet. 16. Rhythms 94-99 (White Peak rework)
Review: Following acclaimed releases by Jeremiah R and HVL, Organic Analogue is proud to present an extensive new release from a true underground hero of UK electronic music, DJ Guy. The tracks on the Structures 12" prove that the same spellbinding atmosphere, swooning melodic content and crafty arrangement flex is as present in Guy's contemporary work as it is in his earliest tape rips. Elements of Drexciyan electro and UK ambient techno can be felt throughout, but they're delivered with an equal dose of ingenuity that is all his own. As well as his plentiful techno output, Guy equally turned his hand to some crucial experimental jungle over the years. Rhythms 94/99 harks back to the era of Black Secret Technology, Plug and Depth Charge, all phased, diced up amens and dreamy pads that form a link to Guy's 4/4 work while once more demonstrating how on point his productions were at such a seminal time. The tape they have put together contains ten tracks recorded by Guy between 1994 and 1999 as well as an additional remix by White Peak that draws upon all the tracks for source material.

It contains the original songs of "The True Underground Sound Of Rome" from the rare and sought after EP released in 1991 on "Male Records" plus two unreleased tracks recorded in 1991. In Italy during early 90's after the "disco era" was time for the new born "Underground Music" movement. Male Productions represents the first italian electronic-house independent label, based in Rome and managed by Chicco Furlotti, former club-DJ and organizer of the early italian rave parties. This Album features Stefano Di Carlo and other big names from the italian electronic and house music scene like Leo Young and Mauro Tannino... We can't call this music as deep-house, ambient or techno because it's The True Undergound Sound Of Rome !

  5. Land (5:18)
Review: Rhythm Section International, helmed by "Executuve Producer" Bradley Zero, has barely put a foot wrong since launching in 2014. Here, the Peckham imprint welcomes Tom Harris AKA Hidden Spheres into the fold. He hits the mark from the off, layering up twinkling pianos, mutant synthesizer lines, bluesy vocal samples and huggable deep house grooves on "Well Well". Another deep, sun-kissed, almost horizontal house excursion can be found on the B, with the intricate and tactile "Your Effect" impressing. Elsewhere, Harris explores the dusty, downtempo side of his repertoire, with the jazzy "Land" sounding like a long lost Ninja Tune jam from the mid '90s.

Review: France's Varhat is back after some great tracks on Crocus and Aku but who can forget that killer edit of Stablo he did last year. This guy's is on a roll and one to watch, which says a lot considering the amount of talent coming of Paris at the moment. This time it's for Ukranian wunderkind Mulen's imprint and it's a as deep and as rolling as you'd expect. The whole EP is great as a whole but really shines on "Track 2 " with its pitched down acid bassline and those sweet immersive pads. "Track 3" is properly deep with its smooth bassline, tight rhythm and those swirling and hypnotic synths working a treat.

Review: Having recently contributed the delicious "Cricket Orchestra" to Smallville's impressive 10th anniversary collection, Smallville Ways, Julius Steinhoff and Just von Ahlefeld deliver their first EP for the Hamburg label in 12 months. They begin with the throbbing, low-slung bounce of "Crystal Fandango", where ghostly electronics and rubbery riffs wrap themselves around a stomping, bass-heavy groove. "Move" features similarly woozy chords and melody lines, but a more glassy-eyed, Chicago-influenced drum track, while "Fever" is percussively dense and acid influenced whilst retaining their usual hazy deep house feel. It's all impeccably produced, as usual, and each of the three tracks brings something a little different to the (turn) table.

Review: Carlo Troja aka Don Carlos was active during Italy's golden days, the years that saw the likes of Beppe Loda and the rest of the 'cosmic' crew pave the way for what was to then become house music as we know it in Europe. Although he was an influential DJ as far back as the 1970s, Troja only released his first EP in 1991, the beautiful Alone that is reissued here with the help of Groovin. The Paradise mix in any house-heads dream come true, a bass-heavy club nugget that contains just the right balance between funky and deep; the Flute house version adds in a layer of beautiful chirps for added sexiness; and the Sax Ambient mix is perhaps the best moment on here, keeping those starry synths well in the mix alongside cool piano keys. Hot and warmly recommended.

  3. Just Play The Music (4:33)
Review: Trevor Jackson tends to do things differently, so the recent announcement of nine EPs of previously unheard Playgroup material, to be released in the space of nine weeks, should have come as little surprise. Opener "Move My Body" is particularly strong, and features sampled Robert Owens vocals rising and falling over a classic, late '80s Chicago house groove. There's a similar retro-futurist feel to the more acid-flecked Ed DMX collaboration "I Want To Believe", while "Play The Music" combines similar influences with a touch of NYC proto-house.

  2. Cry Me A River (6:19)
Review: Hot on the heels of the boastfully-titled full-length The Best comes Desert Eagle, Alex Omar Smith's first 12" of 2016. The title track is as bold and brassy as you'd expect from the Detroit producer, with swirling, minor key melodies and woozy chords complimenting swinging machine drums and a deliciously bouncy, suitably tactile synth-bass line. Arguably better is "Cry Me A River", where soulful vocal samples and wonderfully positive melody lines are expertly combined with bumpin', distorted deep house drums. Throw in some sustained note strings and a bustling bassline, and you have another guaranteed floor-filler from the FXHE boss.

Review: After previous travels through space in the minimal constellation on records for Binh's Time Passages and Vera and Alexandra's Melliflow label, Berlin-dwelling Italian producer lands himself an impressive debut on the mighty Perlon. Fresh off a new Fumiya Tanaka LP and that superb Margaret Dygas 12", Perlon are operating on all cylinders at the moment and this debut Spacetravel LP is a fine addition to the label canon. Some eight tracks deep, the cannily-titled Dancing Therapy already sounds like a future Perlon classic, breezing from hypnotic reduced house ("Kill Divas") to haywire techno deviations via stripped down minimal DJ tools. Dancing therapy indeed!
