Zero Value (12")
Cat: KLAKSON 026. Rel: 27 Mar 17
  1. Four Io
  2. U Can Tell
  3. NCSC
  4. Shove
Review: This 12" marks the Klakson label debut of Privacy, a Berlin-based machine freak who was previously impressed via releases on Lobster Theremin, Klasse Wrecks and Valcrond Video. Across the course of four fine tracks, the producer explores the world of electro, doffing a cap to a number of sub-genres along the way. So, while the skittish and excitable "Four Lo" sounds like a "braindance" era Rephlex throw-down, the slower, dirtier and spookier "U Can Tell" sails closer to dark electro territory. Over on the flip, "NCSC" combines punchy electro drums with the trademark arpeggio bass and spacey synthesizer melodies of Italo-disco, while the fast-paced "Shove" sounds like a long lost Dexter classic.

  6. Hightech Nomads
  7. 700 Million Lightyears From Earth
  8. Astronomical Guidepost
Review: Having previously mined Drexciya's back catalogue for four superb compilations (the Journey of the Deep Sea Dweller series), Clone has decided to reissue the Detroit electro legends' final studio album, 2002's Grava 4. It remains a superb set, moving between deep space explorations (the superbly atmospheric ambience of "Cascading Celestial Giants"), rolling, intergalactic electro ("Drexcyen Star Chamber"), intense dancefloor work outs ("Drexcyen R.E.S.T Principle"), glistening IDM ("Hightech Nomads"), and fusions of Sheffield bleep aesthetics and Cybotron style rhythms ("Gravity Waves"). In other words, you'll struggle to find a better electro album. If you don't own an original copy, you should grab this reissue sharpish.

Revision! Vol 2: Soul Crush (heavyweight yellow vinyl 12")
Cat: SUCTION 037. Rel: 27 Mar 17
  1. Soul Crush (4:15)
  2. Soul Crush (Adam X revision) (6:04)
  3. Soul Crush (Zoviet France Virtual mix) (13:13)
Review: Unlike seminal Vancouver EBM/industrialists Skinny Puppy, Digital Poodle had only a cult following in Toronto and some parts of the North American continent; a real shame considering their impressive body of work. However, tracks such as 1995's "Head Of Lenin" got some international airplay, not to mention being played at quite a few goth clubs back in the day (not that we'd know, of course!). Finally there's a a renewed enthusiasm around them among a new generation of fans and die-hard nostalgists alike. 1992's Soul Crush" gets a worthy reissue on local analogue freak Solvent's Suction imprint and gets a some pretty nifty reworks. Sonic Groove main man Adam X serves up a pounding, droning and hypnotic rendition that stands in stark contrast to the slow and steely funk groove of the original. Also worthy of mention is British legends Soviet France and their "Virtual Mix" a B side to the original release which is 13 minutes of epic ambient house bliss.

Shudder (12")
Cat: ACJ 95. Rel: 27 Mar 17
  1. Shudder (4:08)
  2. Grasp (5:25)
  3. M1 (4:44)
  4. Kyrian (5:32)
Review: Fresh from his exploits with King Kashmere, beat alchemist Bambooman crashes the party at Accidental with four more singular experiments; "Shudder" rolls on a stuttering break that's paced in such a way it's as much UKG as it is techno. Both "Grasp" and "M1" show off more of a house side to B's spectrum as the former insists with an almost Detroitian charm while "M1" scrapes strange strings to create unique texture. Finally "Kyrian" takes us on a futurist twist on broken beat with spacious kicks and a warm, fat analogue synth. Some say shudder, we say goosebumps...
