Review: Despite being at it for well over two decades, Ed 'DMX Krew' Upton shows no signs of slowing down. Even more impressively, his EPs remain as essential now as he did in the mid '90s. There's naturally much to admire on this deep, woozy and spacey electro EP for Dutch titans Shipwrec. Amongst the highlights, you'll find the deep boogie/sunny electro hybrid "Cordial", the high-octane bleep and braindance rhythms of "Ping Me Back", the dark Italo throb of "Mini-Owner", and the bubbly, Detroit-goes-to-Romford-via-Chicago quirkiness of closer "Thinking Using Another's Brain". As usual, Upton barely puts a foot wrong, with even the EP's lesser moments being head and shoulders above those produced by most of his rivals.

  2. DJ Python - "Amazonia" (6:22)
  3. Gunnar Haslam - "Vector No Campo" (7:02)
  4. Sleeper Cell - "V" (4:43)
Review: Ital's Lovers Rock label makes its first appearance of 2016, in the process offering up a quartet of fresh new cuts. It's arguably nowhere near as bleak and foreboding as you'd expect, with DJ Python's yearning IDM cut "Amazonia", in particular, delivering little less than melodic melancholia. Ital, too, is in a relatively positive mood (see the fluttering new age synths and druggy, bottom end throb of "Vacation"), though Gunnar Haslam flips the script completely on his titanium-clad, clandestine electro smasher "Vector No Campo". Sleeper Cell's ultra-deep, trippy ambient cut, "V", completes a fine package.

  2. Bogdan Drazic - "Lokis" (7:26)
  3. Daniel Kyo - "Blood Running" (6:59)
  4. Daniel Kyo - "For Those Who Know" (5:54)
Review: Giallo Disco take us back to where it all began: "Black Gloves". 16 releases, four years and countless innovative synth-magicians since the label's launch release, Bogdan and Daniel are given the honour of the second volume... And they don't let the side down. Bogdan takes the lead with two stark, churchy compositions: "Cyk I" is what you'd get if you rigged up a 50k system, an 808 and a MPC in a cathedral while "Lokis" is straight out of Black Strobe's worst nightmares. Kyo takes care of the B with the poppier charms of "Blood Running" and the deep, dense acidic comosis of "For Those Who Know". Knock out material.

  5. Bis Zum Nachsten Tag (Phase Fatale remix) (6:08)
Review: Sid, Eddy, Nyx and Hal together make up the notorious Schwefelgelb act, a brash, noisy but ultimately fell-good electro-techno band with a gritty, below-the-radar kinda feel. For example, "Bis Zum Nachsten Tag" is a banger with a dicing bassline that can easily be enjoyed by any sort of dance DJ, and the same goes for "Balancier Dich" - a hell of a techno slicer. "Da Konnte" diversifies into a deep, more tribalistic sort of percussion that'll appeal to heads, but the pick of the lot is most definitely "So Heisser Es Wird", a heavy-loaded techno stomper with a sweltering bass-bang for the big room. TIP!!!
