Sleeping Rough
Surgical Changes
Verbal Abuse
Review: The Nothing Special maintain their intermittent attitude to release schedules with the third 12" in as many years, though Sleeping Rough is made that bit extra special (no pun intended) as it's the first time label boss Craig Richards has helmed a plate! The title track's been a much requested production since the revered Fabric resident included it on his Boiler Room set earlier this year; that "drippy drippy" vocal hook which rides the deep, abstract house groove will lodge itself comfortably in your cerebral cortex as soon as you hear it. Alongside it, both "Surgical Changes" and "Verbal Abuse" showcase Richards' production range, adopting a slanted 160bpm pace whilst the stripped down programming ensures there's plenty of space for him to experiment with sound and texture.

Voltage (original)
Voltage (Volkan Constant mix)
Voltage (Villalobos AC/DC remix)
Review: Formerly working under the V For Volkan moniker, German producer Volkan Akin makes great strides with this first release under his given name for the resurgent Ultrastretch. Founded in 2011 by Berlin fixture Sammy Dee, Ultrastretch came correct with it's first three releases from Seuil, Al Schwartz and Matthew Burton before an extended break which ends with this 12". Lead track "Voltage" sees Akin dive gleefully into abstract minimalist territory, with an irregular beat pattern haunted by lost remnants of ghostly machine funk, something which is toned down considerably on the producer's subsequent "Constant Remix" with hypnotics results. Given the left of centre nature of the source, Ricky Villalobos is perfectly placed to further tease out some textural and rhythmic kinks on a suitably expansive "AC/DC Remix".

Half Out
Chapel
Review: Fast making in-roads into the murky twilight house world inhabited by Joy O, Boddika et al, Paleman steps up with the second release for School in a monochromatic hue, choosing to home in on rhythmic dexterity to provide the meat in his tracks. "Half Out" is a smoothly paced house groover that calls upon the days of minimal to provide atmospheric sample use amongst the crisp, steadfast drums. "Chapel" is where things gets spicier with a fearsome use of reverb to define the space the track sits in, while the beat gets sharp and snappy in its arrangement. It's the intricacy of the drum programming that shines through on Paleman's latest effort, slotting perfectly into that moody kind of 4/4 that is smashing dancefloors to bits at present.

Salute For The Unicorns
Review: Celebrating his label's 20th release, Coldfish dreams up his debut album. He personally describes it as "a raw brotherhood of naive imaginations and experiments around the idea of techno" and he's not wrong: super deep and explorative, he subverts all preconceived perceptions of the genre and reconstitutes them at his own will. "Apollonia" and "Aino Lane", for example, come with a bitter aftertaste of Icicle style mechanical dubstep while the wonky, dubbed out shuffle of "The Ambassador" sounds like Tyrant on a moody day and the offbeat chants and obtuse timbre or "Noatak" aren't dissimilar to Villalobos circa "Fizheurer Zieheuer". Whether you use it as a collection of stand-alone tracks or indulge in it as a solid piece of work, this is an accomplished debut.

Moan & Groan
Tonight In Tokyo (Breach remix)
Tonight In Tokyo (Cassius remix)
Review: Hot Creations boss man Jamie Jones resurfaces on the Crosstown Rebels label with his first 12" transmission of the year, the rather fruitily titled Moan & Groan. Filled to bursting point with all the typical Jammy Jones production points - think bouncy groove, irresistible drops and hushed deviant vocals - "Moan & Groan" arrives just in time for the summer slog on the Croatian coastline. It's complemented by two remixes of "Tonight In Tokyo" - one of the secret weapons Jones included on last year's Crosstown Rebels album of sorts Tracks From The Crypt - from Breach and Cassius. Ben Westbeech's darker alias teases out some deep basslines for his rework whilst veteran French duo Cassius are on altogether more epic form.

Falling Angel (12" version)
Falling Angel (Matthew Styles remix)
Falling Angel (Pepe Bradock Detournement Au Phlogiston)
Review: Last seen on Ostgut Ton back in 2011, the wonderfully monikered Dinky resurfaces on Visionquest with the Fallen Angel 12" which precedes next month's release of Dimension D, her fifth studio album which has been mixed and co-produced by Matthew Styles. Visionquest press notes claim the forthcoming long player sees the Chilean DJ, producer and vocalist evolve into a fully fledged singer-songwriter and performer, which makes Dimension D a perfect fit for the label. As a taste of what's to come, "Fallen Angel" excels, with Iglesias's ethereal vocal the perfect foil for the dark, rippling techy groove. Kudos to Visionquest for the remixes too, with the aforementioned Styles further finessing the original's darker intricacies whilst Pepe Bradock completely rewires proceedings in his own inimitable style.

Enzo Siragusa & Sebzito - "Sweet"
Rich NxT - "Spell"
Dan Lively - "Regardless"
Ittetsu - "The Anchor"
Review: The latest offering from London's Fuse crew sees the regular contributors of the label's inner circle once more reaching into their coffers for a selection of stripped, tracky tech house jams built with a long stint in the club in mind. Siragusa and Sebzito's "Sweet" revolves around a thick, warm pad that runs through the gaps between the crisp house beat, and Rich NX T uses artfully placed vocal samples to provide the hook in his own jam. Dan Lively has a subtle dose of dub about the central pulsing hook in his own "Regardless", and Ittetsu goes straight for the kill with a dry drum workout.

Let's Feed The Wolf
Far From Grace
Let's Feed The Wolf (Petre Inspirescu remix)
Review: Easy Changes' minimally minded Nervmusic imprint takes its time with releasing music, and with good reason when the results are as captivating as on Hungarian Laurine Frost's latest effort. Fuelled by a plethora of field recordings and found sounds, Frost, crafts tricky grooves and haunting atmospheres in the classic minimal techno tradition, placing rhythmic intrigue above overt emotion and familiar tropes. "Let's Feed The Wolf" swings and lurches as a distended tuba of sorts groans intermittently, while "Far From Grace" throttles forwards against a tide of UFO pulses, driven by an impulsive array of drum hits from around the house. Given the surroundings, Petre Inspirescu makes for a wise choice in remixer, and the Romanian champ adds a more insistent, protracted groove to "Let's Feed The Wolf".

Good Times (Agoria Sunlune mix)
Baumhaus (Robag Paavo & Veita rehand)
Mantasy (Will Saul & October mix)
Review: Drawing on his recent Mantasy album for a second round of remixes, Michael Mayer gets the revisionist treatment from an eclectic spread of artists. Agoria gets positively effervescent on "Good Times", floating on trippy, sun kissed washes of melody while heavily processing the vocal into a celebration of extreme pitching. Robag Paavo and Velta get far deeper on their version of "Baumhaus", working around a minimal rhythmic construction made up of intricate percussion that gently feeds emotive keys and strings into the mix. Will Saul and October are in an equally slow-burning mood as they let "Mantasy" simmer under a mesmerising combination of searching melody and analogue drum rumble.

Carisma - "Muerte Instrumental"
Gladkazuka - "El Untitled"
Lechuga Zafiro - "Sapo De Manga"
Matias Aguayo - "El Transatlantico"
Alejandro Paz - "El House"
Christian S - "Die Durch Die Nase Lachen"
Review: The Comeme juggernaut gathers pace with the label's fourth release of the year, veering off from the impressive full artists release schedule set by Barnt, Ana Helder and Phil Gorbachev for one of their trademark split releases. Featuring no less than six tracks, El Untitled offers an equal share of artists resident to the Comeme cause and newcomers. Buenos Aires DJ and production duo Carisma (Carolina Stegmayer and Ismael Pinkler) fall into the latter category but feel perfectly at home on Comeme on the basis of opening track "Muerte Instrumental" which pairs chunky almost stadium rock drums with wavering sinewave stabs and skittering radio interference - if Mr Oizo was born in South America he might make music like this. Columbian Gladkazuka debuts proper a remix on the label's recent compilation with the detuned and dusty twilight sojourn through Medellin that is the title track, whilst Lechuga Zafiro offers some Uruguayan flavour to the Comeme cause for the first time with the chirping Candombe rhythmic of "Sapo The Manga". The flip pairs together new cuts from Aguayo, Paz and Christian S which in no way overshadow whats come before.
