Deep In My Heart
Rich Kids
Review: Following a slew of tear out anthems such as "Soundboy", "Brainstorm" and "Echoes", hard house turned D&B producer Hamilton brought us some excellent new tunes here on Andy C's influential Ram Records. "Deep In My Heart" was a power anthem in the making, with an empowered repeating vocal hook echoing within the tune, and accentuating the pumping drums, trance-influenced synth work and sweeping atmospherics. "Rich Kids" was an equally exciting venture with punishing subs, grueling synth sweeps and pounding drums setting the pace and tone for the piece. Scintillating stuff here from the Ram camp.

Symbol #6.1
Symbol #6.2
Review: ASC calls on the supreme talents of Bvdub for the sixth edition of the Experimental no-holds-barred Auxiliary Symbols series, with Brock van Wey electing to showcase a new project in the form of East Of Oceans. Naturally there's plenty of the emotional depth and rich textures at play on both tracks here, and "Symbol #6.1" is rightfully called a "game changer" by the label, delving deep into an expansive sound that contains several twists before the runout groove appears. It's complemented by the tough breakbeats and vast swathes of orchestral chords that permeate "Symbol #6.2" with a certain added urgency provided by the angelic but not quite decipherable vocals that swing in the sonic mist beneath.

Autumn Rides
Review: Despite releasing enough singles to fill a small set of IKEA Expedit shelves, Cambridge D&B duo Commix have been pretty slow on the uptake when it comes to albums. So far, they've only released one original full-length, Call To Mind - a pleasing set that won many plaudits on its release in 2007. Curiously, this second full-length is not a new album per se, but rather a collection of previously unreleased cuts recorded between 2003 and 2008. It is, though, a rather fine set, perfectly showcasing their brand of melodic, musically inclined drum and bass. As ever, the beats are loose, organic and snare heavy, the basslines hooky and the melodies sparkling, offering a near perfect balance of dancefloor chops and home listening nous. Fans will lap it up.

Get Ready (Serum & Northern Lights remix)
Get Ready (Sukh Knight remix)
Review: Rebel MC's posse cut "Get Ready" gets a double dose of remix treatment courtesy of the legendary Congo Natty label. Featuring the vocal talents of the always dextrously tongued General Levy alongside Daddy Freddy and Nancy Correla, the D&B skank of the original gets twisted in two pleasingly diverse directions either side of this twelve inch which should have the original nuttahs among us crying out for a rewind! First up is the Serum & Northern Lights' re-lick, which is full of thwacking drum kicks, punchy breaks, grinding synths and swaggering attitude. On the flip, East London's Sukh Knight provides a rather different perspective on proceedings with an eerie, synth-drenched dubstep soundscape which gives the track a nicely narcotic half step swagger.

It's On (feat Codebreaker)
Point Of Difference
Review: South Coast duo Ulterior Motive drop their first heat of the year, returning to Teebee's Subtitles imprint after a brief flirtation with Critical Music in late 2011. Featuring the MC talents of Codebreaker, "It's On" makes for one of Ulterior Motive's signature growling D&B exercises, deftly melding liquefied future funk with finely sculpted percussive rhythms that act as the perfect sonic backdrop to Codebreaker's snarling delivery. Complementing this, "Point Of Difference" delves further into the depths of jagged, almost schizophrenic steppah action, ramping up the tension with spacious moments before tearing into the nastiness to leave you breathless.

No Safety Zone
Review: There's something decidedly bleak, almost heartbreakingly sad, about this collaborative album from sometime D&B producers ASC (head honcho of Auxiliary) and Sam KDC. As with ASC's most recent full-length, the steadfastly ambient The Light That Burns Twice As Bright, it's a moody and atmospheric affair, dealing mostly in FX-laden drones, slow-burn melodies and near-endless chords. At times it sounds like a post-modern take on the drifting ambience of Pete Namlook, at others a weary comment on the current state of Western society. Throughout, there's an odd warmth and emotional resonance that belies its introspective approach. Closer "No Safety Zone", for example, seemingly shimmers with toasty warmth.

Cryptkeeper (Mind Vortex remix)
Anubis (Inside Info remix)
Review: Viennese "stadium bass" combo Camo & Krooked approach drum and bass with all the subtlety of a punch in the mush from Vladimir Klitschko, and their popularity is grounded in this maximal, festival friendly blurring of boundaries between D&B, dubstep and electro house. This 12" culls two of the tracks from their recent Between The Lines remix album for C & K fans who like their wax. Mind Vortex call shotgun with a reworking of "Cryptkeeper" that transforms the already rambunctious original into a slab of monolithic, grinding dancefloor pressure whilst "Anubis" is approached from an entirely different angle by Inside Info. The Londoner turns in a supremely dark and twisted remix that bleeps and gurgles in all the right places beneath the roughed up beats.

We Are One (Nu:Logic remix)
Timelapse
Review: The evergreen Hospital Records imprint provide a prelude to Fear Not, the soon to be released fourth studio album from label mainstay and "much-respected purveyor of the finest jungle flavoured rollers" known as Logistics with this suitably bombastic twelve inch. Having debuted on Bailey's 1Xtra show earlier this year, "We Are One" gets flipped in immense style by the talents of by Logistics himself along with older brother Nu:Tone under their Nu:Logistics guise. Their amen bashing monster of a remix that squeezes every last drop of crashing joy out of the much used drum break. Backing this up is "Timelapse" a solo endeavour from Logistics that highlights his much lauded talent for juxtaposing euphoric flourishes with relentless punchy rhythms and is an exciting insight into how Fear Not might play out.

Klute - "We R The Ones" (Ulterior Motive remix)
Nymfo - "Resolve" (Klute VIP)
Review: Amongst the many highlights that litter the back catalogue of man like Klute "We R The Ones" ranks pretty highly. Given its cult status amongst the Drum & Bass community, it would take a brave soul to try and stamp their own sound on it, but it's clear Klute's label chose wisely in commissioning Ulterior Motive to remix the track. "Bournemouth's Finest" rewires the track to a brooding, darkly futuristic mainframe with the extra snap of percussion backed into a corner by the huge waves of greedy sounding sub bass patterns. On the flip, Klute himself comes correct with a VIP WMD of his own, somehow increasing the bass weight pressure of Nymfo's "Resolve" to all new levels.

Here We Go
Soundwaves
Review: A much loved figure across the D&B spectrum, Break brings us his next utterance on none other than Critical Music, who are enjoying their time in the limelight at the moment, following Kasra's recent Fabriclive mix. Here, we see Break doing what he does best in "Here We Go" as he goes in hard and fast, with pounding bass; those unmistakable Break er, breaks; and plenty of fury in the grinding synths which pepper this spectacular release. "Soundwaves", in some ways a slightly less intense cut, pairs a muffled reggae vocal, with almost impenetrable sub bass and low-end frequencies.

You Look Better Dead (feat Rani)
Manic Minor
Review: We last saw Amit almost a year ago with the critically acclaimed 9 Times on the Commercial Suicide imprint, an album that brought together a unique blend of sounds and concepts and united them into one devilish whole. An overdue return is made possible via D Bridge's Exit Records, with You Look Better Dead, a two track 12" that proves to be equally stunning. The title track features some mournful vocals from Rani amidst a melancholic arrangement dominated by booming bass and rattling breaks. Proving his production mettle, Amit switches things up on the frenetic flip, with "Manic Minor" switching between the SFX bleeping, booming subs and barely there percussion.

Galvanise
No Rest
Review: Astrophonica boss and one half of Fracture & Neptune teams up with Berlin-based FD for a top draw release on Teebee's Subtitles imprint. Bringing together their considerable talents in the studio, it's all stripped back with deep, dark vibes in abundance. First up is "Galvanise" which is full of quirky warps, metallic chiming and hollow, clapping breaks. It's got an eerie glow to it, accentuated by spaced out SFX and ominous echoes. "No Rest" is another understated killer, building from a calm intro into a head-nodding roller, with blissed out atmospherics and undulating b-line. Essential

Review: Since launching way back in 2006, Hospital's occasional Med School imprint has provided open-minded listeners with some pleasingly revelatory excursions beyond the outer limits of bass-heavy electronica and drum and bass. This latest label comp, featuring a mix of unreleased and little-known cuts from familiar artists and newcomers, continues that trend. Amidst its "bass injections that raise the bar" you'll find the wonky sweetness of Subverse, the ethereal deepness of Blu Mar Ten, the cheery vocal goodness of Twothirds & Bad Apple, the clicky electronic curiosities of Bop and some seriously heavy D&B from Royalston. A pleasingly mixed bag, all told.

Review: Viennese "stadium bass" combo Camo & Krooked offer further proof of the continued blurring of boundaries between drum & bass, dubstep and electro-house. Between The Lines, a partner album to last year's radio-friendly debut Cross The Line, gleefully mashes these genres into a heavy, radio-friendly mixture guaranteed to get pulses racing at giant outdoor raves. There are, of course, cute touches - see the twinkling pianos on BCEE's remix of "Afterlife" - but for the most part the assorted remixes and B-sides collected here have all the subtlety of a punch in the mush from Vladimir Klitschko. It is, though, heaps of fun and doesn't take itself too seriously - something that can't be said for all dance music these days.

Review: Like many of Exit's artists, Dan Habarnam has made the journey from left-of-centre drum and bass to straight-up electronica, admittedly with a few stops to fuse IDM and jungle along the way. This debut album fits neatly into the Exit canon, offering a hazy mix of crystalline electronic melodies, fuzzy ambience, cinematic moodiness and just a whisper of dubstep-inspired bottom end. There are moments of rhythmic purity - see the shuffling, wonk-hop goes ambient vibes of "Memory" and woozy, slo-mo dub techno of "Fragments" - but these largely play second fiddle to intoxicating beatless compositions. These are uniformly excellent, with the lazy, late night lament of "Betray The Past" standing out.
