Get Off The Floor
You Must Create
You Must Create (Faze Action mix)
You Must Create (instrumental)
Review: Horse Meat Disco member Luke Howard debuts the Miss Cheesecake nom de plume for a shiny vinyl release on the venerable London institution otherwise known as Faze Action Records. Electronic bass and piano action abounds on "Get Off The Floor" which features some delightfully lo-fi robotic vocals and a relentlessly driving groove, while "You Must Create", which features Luke's own vocals, is dripping in neon-tinged 80s dancefloor sweat. Sharing the flipside is a typically lush proto house remix of "You Must Create" from label chiefs Faze Action which really could be the theme tune to a 1983 moustache-riddled cop action flick set in San Francisco, alongside an instrumental version of the original cut.

Francis Inferno Orchestra - "Horizon Beat"
Jonno & Tommo - "Scare The Night"
Scott Featherstone & Tino - "Circles"
Ramboiage - "Pretty Baby"
Review: Brand spanking new label Sccucci Manucci launches with a 12" offering containing cuts from four different but equally pleasing sources. Those of you who hang out at the crossroads where disco meets house will no doubt already be keenly aware of the stylings of Aussie pup Francis Inferno Orchestra, and here he turns in piano-driven stomper "Horizon Beat". No less euphoric is "Scare The Night" by Jonno & Tommo - alas not a production duo from Far North Queensland but the considerably less tropical climes of London - who drop an oven warm slow-mo jam that brings to mind I:Cube's epic "Falling". Scott Featherstone & Tino TCB on the flip, with "Circles" guaranteed to raise a smile from the more discerning corners of the dancefloor. Portuguese newcomer Ramboiage rounds off the release, dropping some Cottam-esque heavy thud house on "Pretty Baby". Already in the record bags of Jacques Renault and other members of the disco cognoscenti, fans of Wolf Music and Kolour Recordings will be all over this record which comes wrapped in some seriously porno artwork.

Rayko - "Broadway"
Rayko - "All Around The Watchtower"
Em Vee - "Give Me Your Love"
Review: REPRESS ALERT: This time on transparent vinyl. Amsterdam dwelling editor par excellence Em Vee took the solo reigns on the inaugural Lumberjacks In Hell - and truly excelled with a great reimagination of "Miss You". The second release on the label sees the German share duties with Spanish edit demon Rayko, with the Rare Wiri boss hogging the A Side. First up is an expert rearrangement of Candi Staton's cover of the Bee Gee's standard "Nights On Broadway" which strips the track of its orchestral leanings to focus on the groove! Following this is a meaty take on a classic, with Barbara Keith's cover of "All Along The Watchtower" reinforced with some bottom end bump. Em Vee spreads a special disco version of Alma Lee's late 70s Philly delight "Gimme Your Love" with an extended intro that fully displays his edit talents.

Our Love Call

Voiceover 1
Review: After a successful career in Dutch risque cinema, Strom Vandenberg has decided to dedicate his future days to another passion, the art of lustful disco reworks - with Majesty's Pleasure the conduit. The inaugural release is primped especially for fans of the proto four x four thump, twisted cosmic psychedelia, basement boogie and vintage NJ Jersey sounds. Indeed the opening track "Our Love Call" seemingly swerves through various stages of dance music history before arriving at the burning crescendo that plays the track out. A spotters badge for anyone who can ID the tracks here! Look out for the slightly creepy message from Meneer Vandenberg which plays out the B Side.

Loletta Holloway - "Dreamin" (John M+M Not My Man extended mix)
Inner Life - "Make It Last Forever" (feat Jocelyn Brown - John M+M original Forever 12' mix)
Review: The second vinyl sampler to accompany BBE's hook-up with disco legend John Morales is just as delicious as the first, with essential takes on classics from Teddy Pendergrass, Candi Staton, Loletta Holloway and Inner Life all worth investigating. If this isn't enough for you, be sure to check the comprehensive 18 track double CD compilation, also out this week.

Do You Want The Real Thing (Richard Sen & Cazbee edit)
Dancing With Strangers (Social Disco Club edit)
I Don't Want To Lose You (Jacques Renault edit)
Review: The third round of DC La Rue reworks arrives courtesy of the South London branch of the iconic 70s disco producer's fan club - with perhaps the strongest line-up of editors yet. Mixed Blood Cuts duo Richard Sen and Cazbee hog the A-Side with an extended treatment of "Do You Want The Real Thing" which remains true to the growing orchestral crescendo of the original but lays down nicely embellished percussive touches. On the flip, Social Disco Club adds some Portuguese shimmer to the uptempo strut of "Dancing With Strangers" whilst Runaway's Jacques Renault steals the show with the most imaginative edit - twisting "I Don't Want To Lose You" into the kind of freestyle leaning proto house basement jam he seems to excel at. It's worth investigating for the massive bliss-inducing drop into La Rue's original midway through!

Ragysh (8:51)
Snooze 4 Love (8:06)
Bonysh (5:10)
Review: ** Running Back Repress for the Terje Fans **Terje Olsen doesn't release many records, but when he does they tend to be pretty special. This surprise EP for Running Back is his only his fifth original single in seven years, but it's arguably his best yet. "Ragysh" is devilishly simple, a naggingly hypnotic house/ electronic disco head-nodder that builds to a gasping climax of chic, intergalactic melodies. It's partnered by "Bonysh", a dubwise beats track that ekes maximum thrills from little more than ever-changing percussion. B-side "Snooze For Love" - available in dancefloor and downtempo versions - continues the stargazing theme, offering up an uber-Balearic mix of bleep melodies, dozy chords and sleepwalking percussion.

Sunrise Sunset
Sunrise Sunset (Deep Space Orchestra remix)
Sunrise Sunset (Hunee remix)
Review: After a superlative entrance into the record label market courtesy of Deep Space Orchestra's Trust Skynet EP, Use Of Weapons maintains the high standards of quality with some muggy, chuggy, druggy beatdown courtesy of man like Cottam. "Sunrise Sunset" slowly unfurls into a mammoth concoction of bouncing acid, deep orchestral flourishes and rich sonic textures over a steadily intoxicating industrial beat - this along with the new Terje is making us pine for the summer festivals! In addition there are remixes from Deep Space Orchestra and the vastly underappreciated Hunee with the former upping the tempo and focusing on expanding the acidic potential and the latter really impressing with a total reimagination that sits somewhere between Berlin and Detroit. Some massive organ and bassline vibes on this remix. A highly recommended twelve inch!

Solar Flares Burn For You

Invisble College

Beachy Head
Review: The album format suits some artists more than others. On this evidence, it's a snug fit for producer Ben Williams' Gatto Fritto project. Like his previous exemplary 12" singles for Dissident, Electric Minds and International Feel, this self-titled debut album quietly tiptoes between claustrophobic paranoia and dream-like bliss - on some occasions even within the same track (the calming and uneasy "Solar Flares Burn You"). These central themes underpin a beautiful and occasionally unsettling mix of tracks that draws on everything from Radiophgonic Workshop synth-experimentation, classic Balearica and evocative ambience to smacked-out pop (see "The Curse" and "Lucifer Morning Star"), evocative ambience and groggy new wave disco.

I Love New York
Downtown
I Need A Reason (feat Fred Ventura - full length dubstrumental)
I Need A Reason (feat Fred Ventura - main vocal mix)
Review: Iconic French producer Dimitri From Paris takes a break from his international globe trotting endeavours for Hand Of God to introduce Erodiscoteque - a new endeavour with DJ Rocca which marks Dimitri's first excursion for Gomma! "I Love New York" is naturally the duo's paean to everyone's favourite city, specifically the late 80's, early 90s era of freestyle and raw house. The title track is undeniably of this era, with a heavy midtempo MPC beat augmented by plenty of horn vibes and late nite piano stabs - watch out for that breakdown! "Beatdown" brings the electro boogie heat, all squelchy bass, post disco key squiggles and choppy beats. The real gem is reserved for the B Side with Italo disco deity Fred Ventura enlisted to add some vintage vocals to the electro synth odyssey that is "I Need A Reason" which is dipped in an authentic 80s quality that few these days can match.

Bigs
Song Says
Review: A welcome return for TBD on their own TBD Sounds imprint - finally committing to wax two of the productions Justin and Lee debuted on their Beats In Space show way back in the midst of last year! "Bigs" is aptly titled, crafting a veritable epic flex primed for those much discussed secret East London warehouse locations - with layers of organic melody and cascading rhythmic textures combining atop the rumbling bass. The sudden burst into a huge release of melancholic energy precedes a sonic mutation into a spinal groove that rides the track out. The rattling cowbell that permeates these last few moments must sound especially lethal on a massive soundsystem. "Song Says" offers a straighter take on the house sound, but is no less effective. Indeed the array of outer galactic synths and classic Chicago textures that cloak the always pleasing snap of repetitive snare hits prove to be quite intoxicating.

Starlight (remix feat Noodlema)
Love Journey
Review: Endless Flight presents the final opportunity to indulge in a vinyl offering of tracks from Eddie C's fine debut album for the Japanese label with the lead track "I'm Sorry" a fine example of how to produce contemporary disco sounds. A devilish electronic organ rhythm wrapped around intricate house tempo beats drives the track as woozy orchestral flourishes rise from the ether. This is complemented by the grubby analogue chug of "Your Love" which features the heavily messed around with vocal talents of the Banff resident himself - definite Arthur Russel vibes on this one! The flipside brings the Noodleman embellished rework of "Starlight" which builds craftily into a full on vocal discoid delight! "Love Journey" brings The C man's talent for sumptuous multi textured beatdown to the fore with all tracks here a fine representation of what to expect on his album.

Worse For Wear
Prelude To Chaos
Peculiar Protagonist
Latter-Day Methods
Review: Ahead of their second album proper, transatlantic risque disco purveyors In Flagranti offer up the first of two Worse For Wear samplers for those who prefer the taste of vinyl. Those avid collectors of the Codek maxi singles daubed in vintage porno paraphernalia will be somewhat disappointed at the plain black disco bags but the music is resolutely In Flagranti! The title track sets the tone with an arid house bump thrusting at the heavily dubbed electro keys and intermittent spazzed out synths, all against the backdrop of unforgettably druggy vocals. "Peculiar Protagonist" is perhaps the closest In Flagranti have come to straight up disco outside of the Sounds Superb series, though it's still characterised by the distinct little percussive and vocal touches. The disjointed neon rhythms of "Latter Day Methods" which closes this sampler proves to be the real highlight of a more restrained sound for the duo.

Review: The second of two album samplers from In Flagranti, offering up a further quartet of the set's ten tracks for vinyl consumption. Listening to the almost gentle pace of "Anglo-Saxon Pragmatism" brings to mind the duo's great contribution to the Eskimo Balearic Beats compilation from a few years ago. Whilst the crazed disco funk "Hollow Discourse" shows they are still more than adept at their trademark demented, Viagra fuelled take on danceteria, "The End Of The Road" demonstrates them willing to try out new ideas.

General Arrives
Sleigh Ride/Blizzard (Andrew Weatherall remix)
General Arrives (ZNTN remix)
Review: French imprint Astro Lab has remained an under appreciated gem of a label despite releases from Hardway Bros and Mr Shake Shakir in recent times. Their latest reason for you to pay more attention comes via the musical mind of Timothy J Fairplay - who you may know as part of the excellent band Battant or via his solo excursions on the Wevver's curated Boardroom comp from a while back. Newly inducted into the Astro Lab familia, Fairplay drops three cuts that pay homage to the OST icon John Carpenter. Whilst Carpenter is a much credited source of inspiration, Fairplay embellishes his productions with enough low slung personality to place them far beyond mere pastiches; the final simmering tension of "General Arrives" is particularly impressive. Echoing previous releases on the label, Astro Lab match the original material with some fine remixes as Sir Weatherall opens the B Side with a typically unique treatment of "Sleigh Ride/Blizzard" which is cloaked in a muggy, druggy languid techno vibe. Complementing this, Astro Lab's London dwelling Portuguese correspondent ZNTN switches up the sounds of "General Arrives" - embellishing the rhythm with an ever changing percussive direction that will delight the more esoteric ears out there!
