Hardcore Members
Midnight
Review: Dub Police have a handy knack at churning out massive dubstep tunes. Their 36th release, "Hardcore Members" comes from the one and only Subscape and looks to be in keeping with the illustrious history of the label.

His third release on the imprint, Subscape delivers two upfront bangers in the form of "Hardcore Members" and "Midnight". The title track is a noisy assault on the senses with a dark and twisted attitude. Stomping drums pound their way along as piercing snyth lines jut and stab through the layers of jolting sound. Its squelchy sound gives the track a true rave sentiment. Perfectly suited to Dub Police, this could take the roof off any dance that dares to unleash it.

The stand out track though, is "Midnight" on the flip. It is a more chilled out and euphoric brother to the A side, taking on a classic anthem kind of style. It hints at liquid D&B but keeps all the trimmings that go with a Subscape production. Use of dubwise horns, uplifting leads, rolling beats and a thumping bass shows a degree of talent when it comes to musical arrangement. Sending shivers down your spine, this sounds great whether in your car, at the end of a rave or just inside your own house. Dub Police smash it once more with this two tracker from Subscape. Immense dubstep delivered with power and precision, this looks as though it's going to be big!

Woo-Boost (original)
Woo-Boost (Subskrpt edit)
Woo-Boost (Douster remix)
Woo-Boost (Boregore remix)
Review: After steadily gaining momentum in the underground, Rusko's "Woo Boost" is finally getting a full release. Snapped up by Diplo's Mad Decent imprint, this single looks to set to be a big one. Support has already come in from across the board with big name DJs smashing the track live week in, week out.

Chris Mercer, as he was born, grew up in Leeds where he was introduced to the world of dubstep. After moving to London to further his musical career he was collaborating with artists such as new boss Diplo, Santigold and Hot Chip and then went on to produce one of dubstep's biggest tunes, "Cockney Thug." He is now one of the most high profile dubstep artists around. In high demand for live dates around the world and always a sought after remixer, Rusko's profile continues to grow. Now, ahead of his debut on Mad Decent, he drops "Woo Boost" and its accompanying four remixes.

Its heavy bass is as unrelenting as it is unsettling. His trademark synth stabs are there too alongside playful beats and the happy-go-lucky "Woo" vocal. The talented producer keeps up his unique sound going here, he has forged a space entirely for himself now.

Subskrpt begins the remix treatments with his 4/4 fuelled energetic dancefloor touch. Boregore injects some filthiness with nasty basslines and warbling sub-sonic sounds. Douster completes chips in with a rhythmic, tribal re-interpretation of Rusko's original before the Toadally Krossed Out remix finishes things off in raw and untamed fashion. The perfect ending for a release which will undoubtedly take Rusko onto the next level.

We Speak To Those
Hi Res
Review: German maverick Kassem Mosse - a purveyor of the deep, ambient side of techno and house by trade - is certainly an interesting character. His sound is dipped in a distinctly European aesthetic, and here he goes in on a deep, experimental tip for a release on increasingly eclectic Instra:mental owned label, Non Plus. "We Speak To Those" begins with the thumping pound of marching drum beats, like hob nail boots trudging down a tarmac path. An organic flow of sound is sustained masterfully, with a hint of Autechre in there, and a pervasive sense of drift as sounds entwine themselves around the steady paced tempo, coming in and out of focus like wind down a tunnel. "Hi Res", up next, completes the package, with a tripping, tribal pattering intro, with a warm, evocative background hinted at behind the hyperactive kinetics of this immense soundscape.

Review: Torsten Profrock’s T++ project has continually spread its wings since conception in 2005. Championed by fans of techno, dubstep, experimental and drum & bass alike, his latest EP for Honest Jons (and rumoured to be his last under this monkier) showcases the amalgamation of styles and sounds that has earnt the German such a far reaching fanbase.

If it does prove to be the final T++ release ever, then the alias will have left us with the most expressive and energetic of his works. Adding a real sense of personality, Profrock unearthed a handful of samples of the singer and ndingidi player Ssekinomu, recorded in East Africa in the 1930s and 40s in the label’s vaults for this release. Skilfully, the producer works these snippets into the complex rhythm structures, giving his music a human touch that has never been seen before. Profrock looks to the radical fringe of UK garage for the snapping 2 step vibe in these rhythms that remain central to all four tracks on the EP. This results in a clutch of tracks that take on an immensely tribal and subconsciously innate feel. They morph new structures from the forms of 2 step, techno and drum & bass around which Profrock wraps twisted FX and weighty sub bass to create one whole, throbbing organism.
So with quite possibly his final release, T++ leaves us, rather fittingly, with a record that sounds at once both ancient and modern. It has a totally unique tone, like a form of tribal language that can only speak to and be understood by today’s culture through these sub-heavy, atmospheric sounds.

Untitled (Shortcut)
Review: Fans of Dave Huismans might know him better by his 2562 alias, but this project is another thing altogether. An opportunity to pursue his interest in all things dubstep, he's previously released albums of songs all composed within one evening. This EP comes more fully formed though, and is right on the money. The infectious shuffle of title tune "Sun Touch" is as fresh as anything out there at the moment. Fans of Joy Orbison, Martyn and Kode 9 should take note.
