No, We're Not A Couple (6:03)
Cortisol (6:00)
White Mice (8:23)
Review: Mosca offers up an impressive release on his own Not So Much imprint. It showcases his ever evolving style that goes well beyond the post UK bass style we usually associate him with. "No, We're Not A Couple" is a wonderfully experimental take on said musical style; mainly beatless affair with oddball atmospherics and razor sharp synth leads which come in intermittently. "Cortisol" is deep dark and paranoid with that catchy, subtractive synthesis melody which constantly evolves, just wonderfully. On the flip is "White Mice" which sounds like more of a mid-noughties, peak-time minimal track by someone like Audion. Its tripped out synth squeals from another planet over a syncopated analogue drum machine pattern is completely mental and begs your attention.

Brian (4:31)
Sort It (6:55)
Review: Darkside UK bass courtesy of B. Wright on Swamp 81 sister label Benton Beats. "Brian" sounds like a drum and bass 45 played on 33. Its gut wrenching sub bass ploughing away beneath a savage breakbeat and the reoccurring sample repeating "They don't want this London sound". We beg to differ! On the flip though is the sinister electro workout "Sort It" where once again the bass frequencies are the real deal and rhythmic metallic hiss faces off with a haunting futurist atmosphere. Proper street sound.

Gosh
Review: Young Turks lay down a one sided 12" marker for In Colour, the upcoming debut album from Jamie XX which promises to be one of this year's bigger events. Weirdly, there's not a steel pan in sight on "Gosh", a slightly unassuming production where all the hallmarks of a hardcore rave (horns, MC chatter, recycled breakbeats) are boiled down into five minutes that shouldn't really stick in your memory. But watch out, give it a few listens and you'll be saying "oh my gosh" absent-mindedly for the rest of the week.

Review: After six years spent teasing and titillating with a steady stream of high value singles, David Kennedy is finally ready to release his debut full-length under the now familiar Pearson Sound alias. The first artist album to appear on the Hessle Audio imprint he co-founded with Pangaea and Ben UFO, Pearson Sound is a surprisingly sparse and otherworldly affair. Intriguingly, Kennedy's usual twisted, dubbed-out analogue rhythms largely take a back seat, with moments of tough dancefloor abandon (see "Rubber Tree" and the tipsy "Headless") playing second fiddle to stripped-back synth-scapes and otherworldly ambience. It's striking on first listen, and only gets more impressive with repeat listens

(M) Modesty (2:28)
(P) Playfulness (2:51)
(L) Liberty (2:46)
(E) Earnest (2:39)
Review: His first original material since last year's Tayi Bebba album and the "Tambacounda" EP, Italian fusionist Clap! Clap! gets busy on an acrostic flex. S.I.M.P.L.E but highly effective; each cut slaps (and claps) with his now-trademark African tribal recordings and loopy tech dynamics. Cuts such as "Playfulness" flicker and shimmer with an Ame-style looseness while "Ingenuousness" looks more towards Detroit with minor key synth insistency and wriggling percussion. The most stark, memorable and ultimately explosive cut, however, is "Liberty". Pumping at full speed with full focus on dense layers of percussion and drums it suddenly drops into the sweetest house lick you'll hear all season. Another standing ovation for Black Acre's happiest clapper.

Off The Chain (5:19)
Like Thiz (5:16)
Review: Amsterdam production unit U Know The Drill first surfaced last year with some rough and ready contributions to split releases on Slapfunk and Music Is Love that evidently impressed UTTU lynchpin DJ Haus. Off The Chain finds the pair debuting on Hot Haus with a two track of rowdy, dressed to sweat house action that sits nicely alongside recent efforts on the label from Steve Murphy and Palace. The title track shamelessly embraces the art of the banger with some absolutely devilish sub bass manoeuvres, whilst "Like Thiz" initially feels a bit more restrained. Give it a minute or so and the Dutch pair unleashes a killer rave drop that ramps up the overall intensity.

Bottom Out (5:34)
Bottom Out (Kowton OTT mix) (5:30)
Total Music (2:58)
Review: Fresh from the African diversions of his 12" with Nozinja on Bleep, Tessela returns to R&S with more of that singular club-wrecking business. "Bottom Out" is a wild track that pivots round a crisp, flanging clap and a teasingly restrained groove, letting in plenty of alien sound effects without ever letting the mix get overloaded. "Total Music" by way of contrast ploughs deeper into experimental territory with its lurid synth blasts and disturbing sample sources as freaky addendum to the release. Kowton is on hand to remix "Bottom Out" with a more energised approach that keeps the beat peppy until some audacious melt down moments surge up to throw you off the scent.

Review: Pow! XL finally unleash this double grip of critical slammers from Mumdance and Novelist that have been doing the rounds for a while now on the 12" format!!! Mumdance's production dynamic is stark, minimal and drenched in all manner of unique sound design - the perfect bed for Novelist's melodic lyrical bounces as he flexes a complex yarn of money, moods and mindsets. Brooklyn Underground (4:07)
Dinner & Corsica (6:22)
Review: Mensah returns to Lobster Boy with more heavyweight jams under the New York Transit Authority name. Up top "Brooklyn Underground" veers into classic electro territory as crisp 808 programming meets metallic bass tones reminiscent of Radioactiveman at his most futuristic and alien. The superbly titled "Dinner & Corsica" heads down a much darker path as Mensah shows his skills at punchy acid house with a bassline that does all the talking and the kick/snare struts that do all the listening. Dark room, dubby and seriously dangerous stuff from Lobster Boy!

Strict Face - "Into Stone" (Widows version) (4:15)
Review: After their first few outings, which included the efforts of Mumdance and Logos, Different Circles are back with their third release, this time an EP from Rabit (Soundman Chronicles) and newcomer Strict Face; the latter has only put out a handful of tunes to date. Bass wizard Rabit dominates the A-side with "Tearz", an aptly moody experimentation into piano keys, sparse bursts of noise and percussion - perhaps the oddest tune form the man yet! Strict Face comes through with the beat-heavy, hip-hop-leaning "Into Stone", followed by a dubbier, beatless version from Widows. Enticing and fresh.

Ambience (5:33)
UFO (4:58)
Review: Quadrants boss Mele is relentless in his production output, but rarely gets to see his work committed to vinyl. Shout outs to Redlight's equally busy Lobster Boy label for granting man like Mele's Ambience single the physical treatment then. Mele's reluctance to be pigeonholed is on full display with these two club ready cuts; the title track is a carnival-esque fusion of deep tribal beats, diva vocals and absurd breakdown. Complementing this "UFOZ" heads off into quirkier territory, with Mele conjuring a helium-filled laser attack of a production.

Review: Dos McGouran also goes by the name of Detboi, an alias he uses when he's in the mood to make dark, grimey street music with a hardcore edge. His latest curveball is shaped into a four-tracker for the singular Keysound label, home to a wide selection of underground bass music including some of Beneath's first productions, and Blackdown among others. "Scatter" cuts straight to the chase with its breaks, huge bursts of mutant bass and stop-start groove; "Guve Love" is deeper and slower but nonetheless grizzly in its sonic selection; "Shots" goes for a tribal approach and successfully blends an old-school subbass with more minimal melodies; "Pin Point" ties things off with another twist of neo hardcore, brimming with breaks and charisma.

Mad Ting (feat JME) (3:47)
Review: Cameron Palmer aka Swindle has appeared on everything from Mala's Deep Medi, to the mythical Planet Mu, and even Brownswood Recordings. This time he returns to the Butterz imprint with "Global Dance", a bass-heavy stutter tune featuring the vocal talents of the one like Flowdan, and some collaborative support from Mungo's Hi-Fi in the studio. The flipside, "Mad Ting", features JME - another heavyweight in the UK grime scene - and drops his vocals over a twisted dubstep bullet with some serious levels of wobble. Heavy.

LEAN (5:00)
Review: Having previously impressed with a trio of fine EPs and a similarly well-regarded album on Hyperdub some years back, Walton makes the move to Pinch's Tectonic imprint. He kicks things off with the grizzled, post-dubstep sparseness of "Wrench", all thunderous riddims, spooky electronics and spaced-out hits. There's an almost broken beat feel about the mangled grooves, pulsating sub and twittering melodies of "Flute Riddim", while the title track sees him go deep into heavyweight bass territory via drawn-out electronic textures, ragga vocal samples and bouncing beats. He closes proceedings with "L.E.A.N", a deeper, more ghostly trip full of crystalline electronics and spaced-out, half-step beats.

Do 4 Me (4:24)
Blue Suede (4:41)
Review: M&P continue to deliver sterling bass dynamite - both on their own label Materials and Redlight's Lobster Boy imprint. This is no exception; with sinewy beats and soulful vocals, it comes on strong like a Deetron cut while its bulbous, ominous subs give it a late '90s Layo & Bushwacka veneer. "Blue Suede" is more tech-minded in its make-up thanks to rolling hi-hats, snares and clipped vocal shots. One for the hands up crew, one for the heads down crew - M&P have delivered something for every occasion right here.

Are You Losing My Hearing? (5:19)
Moneychangers (6:59)
Review: Tom 'Dam Mantle' Marshallsay and Rich McMaster from Golden Teacher were first granted an outlet as General Ludd through Eamon Harkin and Justin Carter's Mister Saturday Night last year with the breathless pair of house burners that made up the Woo Ha 12". Since then the General has brought the Luddite house sound to Clan Destine, 10 Thousand Yen and Autonomous Africa among others and now lands back on the Mister for the keenly anticipated Are You Losing My Hearing? Another two-track exercise in 12" dynamism, the title cut finds GL in sprightly house mood with a rubbery feel not too dissimilar to Gerd's Geeeman output. Flip it over and "Moneychangers" veers off into more dystopian, heads down territory with some killer modular squiggles throughout.

Lucid Dreaming (5:13)
Review: Following on from their statement b2b mix CD, Pinch and Mumdance have been back in the studio together to cook up this rough and ready single for the formers Tectonic imprint. Riko Dan brings a savage Jamaican swagger to the title track with his fired-up MC turn, while the beat keeps the pressure high from start to finish. "Lucid Dreaming" provides the moody alternative to that party-starting manifesto with some of that Pinch-esque iciness, a deadly restrained menace lingering over the track without ever needing to resort to big drops or crescendos.

Review: If last year's Mabel EP testified Lil Silva's inner soulman, this Drumatic 12" unleashes his inner badman. "Drumatic" is everything the title suggests and more as a sweaty chubster b-line warbles and swathes into a demented amen rhythm. "New Squeeze" is a cool breezy breakbeat roller that will tickle the fancy of any Keith Tenniswood fan in a 10 mile radius while "606" strips down to reveal a ripped footwork six-pack. Flexing around a small collection of well exercised sounds, it's Silva at his most crystalline and futuristic. Golden.

Review: As promised, Hessle Audio issue the second and final 12" accompaniment to Pearson Sound's slow burning debut album which grips two more cuts extended out for optimum dancefloor deployment. It's the two toughest moments from the album too! "Headless" really highlights David Kennedy's mastery of mutant productions - the sparse drum programming and drunken alien tones that get twisted into strange new shapes sound all the more potent here cut at 45rpm. On the flip is an extended take on "Rubber Tree", the track from the LP that has got the most repeat plays in the Juno office - superb stuff!

Review: There can be few curves in artistic development between albums as the one Jam City has undertaken here with Dream A Garden. His 2012 debut album Classical Curves has had a seismic influence on the structure of much UK club music since then, but instead of further developing and finessing those sonic ideas Jack Latham has gone a whole other route into fully fledged song writing. Or perhaps not, Night Slugs suggest the nine track album is not a total break from the hyper-realised world Latham explored on Classical Curves, it should be seen as an inversion, asking "what becomes of the people struggling to live and love beneath the chrome-plated, vacuous and superficial machinery that we must fight to see beyond?" A bold move by artist and label that demands further investigation!

Featuring the distinct talents of jungle stalwarts Ragga Twins, this four track EP picks up on the numerical series that first announced LHF to the world back in 2011. The Ragga Twins vocals were not newly recorded however, instead unearthed "from an unlikely source dating back many years" with the Hackney jungle pioneers later granting LHF permission to use them. The resultant four tracks on From The Edge are as dark and rolling as they come with final cut "Street Wise" a standout.

Where Was I? (4:48)

Who Loves You? (4:12)
Review: Woah.... Dego's 2000 Black pull out a most unexpected treat with some productions from the studio of Dominic 'Domu' Stanton!!!! The music world was a lesser place when Domu decided to retire from production duties citing creative burnout back in 2009, but he's evidently found new inspiration in his sound which has resulted in these killer Sonar's Ghost cuts! Opening track "Where Was I?" is most appropriately titled, rolling out on a bed of chopped up breakbeats and swerving synth lines that sound like vintage Domu. However, the marauding bassline that comes in midway offers a sense of freshness. "Cennes" sees Stanton toy around with drums at a blistering footwork tempo, the ferociousness offset by some delicious harmonies underneath, whilst "Who Loves You?" expertly chops up a vocal sample over some frenetic drum programming.

Review: Last seen lining the Freestyle antics of Morgan Geist's latest project The Galleria on the excellent Calling Card 12" on Environ, Jessy Lanza returns to Hyperdub for a record that pairs her up with the Teklife crew. A superb vocalist, Lanza excels when matched with the rolling snares, crisp kicks and thick bass provided by DJ Spinn and Taso resulting in "You Never Show Your Love" sounding every bit like a modern R&B classic. It's accompanied by a Teklife remix which retains the mood whilst adding some Footwork flex into the mixer (the late DJ Rashad was involved in the production of this too). To close out the record, Hyperdub have slipped in Bambounou's excellent drum heavy remix of Lanza's "F*ck Diamond" which originally featured on one of the label's anniversary compilations last year.

Review: Bok Bok is back in action on his own label with this sprightly two-tracker featuring fresh-faced collaborator Sweyn Jupiter who is making a debut appearance on this record. The "Club Mix" of "Papaya Lipgloss" is a plush affair that revels in the sweetest chimes of melody that linger in mid-air surrounded by a pleasantly sleek rhythm section. It's a joyous affair that keeps an upbeat mood without reaching over into banality, instead letting subtle but impressive flairs of production shine through in the simple surroundings. The "Sour Mix" doesn't actually loose any of that sweetness, but rather deploys it in a more staggered, playful mix that revels in more broken drum patterns and dramatic pauses.

Call Me, Let's Do Lunch (5:41)
Review: First spotted online and in the boxes of some very lucky selectors last summer, then released digitally at the start of the year, Chunky's "Oun C" finally gets the vinyl justice it deserves. Rolling with deep space dynamics, there's a classic electro feel to the drums and a weirded out Crosstown flavour to the bubbling, mildly acidic bass. The result of this fusion is a foggy trap that allures the listeners and holds them captive in their own imagination. Flip for "Call Me, Let's Do Lunch". Here the beats are straight-up 4/4 and the nagging, heavily processed hook scream techno. Imagine a Drumcode release being played at -10 and you're on the right track. We're unsure what lunch Chunky has in mind; his name suggests an all-you-can-eat buffet but the sounds suggest something much leaner and chewy.

Responsible for one of favourite Hotline releases, Lurka has previously been spotted lending some subby heft to the likes of Box Clever and Black Box but seems to have struck a real partnership with Black Acre. Leading with "Partials", Lurka's production intricacies are on full display here with twisting, snake-like melodies and crunched up and broken metallic rhythms deployed with extra time delay that is likely to confuse the dance nicely. Complementing this, "Mach" comes off as a more rugged number, though the awkward drums are still very much a prominent element.

On the A side "Wigu Hill" trips over itself with grace in this nice jittery, bass heavy roller, augmenting the killer woodblock and delayed melodies deployed on disco-flecked house cut "Molycorps Mountain Pass". Overseen by both Visionist and PAN founder Bill Kouligas, the first Codes release brings together two artists who have previously excelled on Lost Codes in Acre and Filter Dread. Working together for the first time, the six track Interference suggests this is a deadly partnership that should be given the platform to express itself further. Degraded 8bit sounds permeate opener "Drumz34" which comes across like early Actress played at the wrong speed, whilst sickeningly good sub bass is deployed on "Flash Speed" and "Trashed" is a superb exercise in slack jawed drum programming. Some cavernous bass kicks on this one. "Life" is wonderfully slippery in full flow, whilst "Unknown" is up there with Gramrcy's "Ruffian" in the heavyweight contenders of the year stakes.

Review: US vocalist Kelela was announced to the world with the 2013 mixtape Cut 4 Me, issued digitally through Fade2Mind and featuring a whole host of killer cuts produced by artists closely associated with the label and it's UK affiliate Night Slugs. With a new Kelela album in the offing, Fade2Mind have decided to grant Cut 4 Me a deluxe physical edition with all the tracks from the mixtape present on this triple vinyl set along with a bunch of club ready remixes!! Jam City, MikeQ, Rizzla, NguzuNguzu, Girl Unit and Kingdom all feature among these reworks and it's really interesting to see the different ways in which Kelela's voice is implemented!
