All Under One Roof Raving
Review: The sampletastic new track from Jamie XX lands in a tongue-in-cheek celebration of all things UK rave orientated, with an understated groove as the backdrop to a wealth of documentary chatter, MC toasts and dancefloor testimonials. Musically, the track deals in delicate steel drum refrains and a twitchy little house beat, but this one is all about the cultural references that will ring true with anyone that grew up exposed to the UK in the mid '90s. As if the point needed hammering home, the sports brand rap at the end of the track will bring a wistful tear to the eye of any former tracksuit-sporters hitting their late twenties.

October
Macondo
Review: Hot on the heels of his turn on James Blake's label, Airhead is at it once again with the Hemlock imprint, keeping things comfortably in the same ballpark of leftfield electronic music spawned from what was once called dubstep. The A side "October" is a lively beast that features plenty of clattering percussion with a live feel, while the rest of the track feeds synth flourishes, oddball vocal snippets and a whole heap of found sounds into a head-spinning slice of originality with enough heft to rock the floor. "Macondo" burrows itself into a more twitchy, jazz inflected groove somewhere on the outside lane of house music with mournful notes and plenty of micro sampling thrown in for good measure.

Review: It makes perfect sense for the London trio of Carlo Anderson, Matthew Benyayer and Thomas Edwards to issue their debut Dark Sky album on Monkeytown as they've gradually become more and more affiliated with the network of labels overseen by Modeselektor. So how exactly does Imagin sound? It covers alot of the bases we've come to expect from both Dark Sky and Monkeytown; there's the skywards pointing melodic flex of the opening title track, a smattering of vocal numbers (such as lead single "Silent Fall"), some bass heavy floor burners ("Voyages" and the neck snapping "Odyssey" stand out) and plenty more to boot.

She Won't Let
Chicken Shop
Initial
Roots VIP
Review: Following his massive remix of Duke Dumont, Leeds-based Last Magpie continues to wear his heart on his sleeve with this beautiful four-piece that nods at so many pools of inspiration it's dizzying. The title track takes us back to the late 90s/early 2000s garage days via the Metalheadz express. Steppy, spacious and ominous, it's instant dark times! "Chicken Shop" takes us even further back to early Detroit and Chicago, all loop vocal shots and a kick that booms so hard it's almost toxic. "Initial" then soothes the blow with lush Apparat-style mournful soul. Finally we hit a serious VIP crescendo as his breakthrough murker "Roots" gets a rugged rudeboy amen polish. Heaviness, clarity, depth and a clear love for some of the best genres in the last 30 years... Last Magpie knows his stuff.

Computers Do Have Souls
Ghetto Juve
Totally Together
Grati Juve
Review:  This German producer has a brace of EPs and a debut album out on Boysnoize, but he is only in his early 20s. Despite his young age, 16 is a deeply accomplished affair. It benefits from the fact that he is free of some of the prejudices older producers might suffer from, and as "Computers Do Have Souls" so ably demonstrates, he has no problem mixing up ghetto techno grooves with floaty synth textures. There's a similarly daring cocktail of influences on "Ghetto Youth", as high-octane, stepping rhythms collide with dubbed out drums, a Resse-style bass and DBX-inspired pitched-down vocals. "Grati Juve" and the vaguely anthem-like "Totally Together" complete this flawless release.

Buck
Ichnusa
Review: Tuscan groove fusion at its finest, "Buck" begins as a dramatic timpani fire-up before dropping into rich subby drum dynamics and synths that wouldn't have sounded amiss on a Kraftwerk record. Truly unique, it resonates with Afrofunk soul and the more digital dancefloor heads. "Ichnusa", meanwhile, comes with more traditional African elements. Dreamy, trippy and far-gazing with subversive production techniques, we guarantee you won't hear another record like this. Round of applause for Clap! Clap!

Review: The third Decadubs release draws it's ammo from Hyperdub 10.2, the label's successful attempt to demonstrate their sizeable discography has helped shape and redefine the very nature of pop, hip hop and soul music. To be honest Hyperdub could have picked out any of the fourteen tracks from 10.2 for inclusion on Decadubs 3 and they'd hear no complaints here, but it's particularly nice to see both the Kode9 collaboration with Inga Copeland and Morgan Zarate's hook up with Eska & Ghostface Killah here. The former's "Lies Lies" demonstrates that Hyperdub are resolute in their efforts to keep pushing the barriers, whilst the latter's classicist take on R&B is fully owned by Eska Mtungwazi's impeccable harmonies.

Hold Still (Cloaka remix)
All She Gets
All She Gets (Decka Sound remix)
Review: MDNGHT Records is the new label from Leeds pair Jacob Harrison and Joe Sagar, or Jay Cub and Don Found to use their respective selector names. Bound by a joint love and appreciation for the work of Loefah, Mala, Burial, Boddika, Dettmann and Blawan, the pair have drawn on the success of a podcast series and launched MDNGHT Records with a dedicated focus on some rising UK Bass and techno talent. Their debut offering introduces Mancunian Kalli whose productions on Hold Still will undoubtedly fill the marauding techno hole in the hearts of Blawan fans everywhere, in particular lead track "Hold Still". Kalli's other original cut "All She Gets" has a nice alien production quality too, whilst both tracks are given the dust down by remixes from Cloaka and Decka Sound respectively.

Wakeup Sequence
Review: On her latest release for Hyperdub, Sara Abdel-Hamid is in as eclectic and confrontational a mood as ever, delivering razor sharp modernist beat constructions and mind-bending synth work to get the dance well and truly hyped. From the cavernous drum throwdown of "Position" to the melancholic, melodic reflection of "Praxis", the Ikonika style is ever broadening and ever unpredictable. There's also snappy electro stylings to be enjoyed on "Strawberry Underlay" making Position a perfect snapshot of Ikonika's confident production range right now.

Montpelier
Kobra
Upsetter
Review: Originally released in October 2013, Facta's powerful "Montpelier" EP enjoys a much-needed repress on 180g. Truly unique, it still sounds like it was cooked up tomorrow: the title track is a chugging 4/4 hurter that takes the house formula, chews it up and spits it back with venomous mischief, "Kobra" is a steppy jam where beats fly upside your head sharply and eastern instrumentation soften the blow. Finally "Upsetter" leaves us sedated in an authentic dub coma while strategic breakbeats wisp and waft just out of reach. Badimup are killing it. And that's a Facta.

Review: It's still early days for Inkke but this release for Local Action should find the emergent grime-influenced producer reaching a wider audience with his distinctive synth rich take on bass music. With six originals to choose from, this EP is a perfect primer for those wanting to get a feel for the artist, ranging from the uptempo thrust of "Thinkk Star (Club Mix)" with its 4/4 stylings through to the exotic slow-motion funk of "Paradise" featuring the soulful croon of Julia Jaban. There is diversity at every turn that points to a multitude of fates awaiting Inkke as his star rises in the multifaceted work of electronic music.

Worry Heart
Review: Future R&B from the planet Vancouver, after a selection of under-radar releases on King Deluxe and UNO, Evy Jane make their EP debut on Ninja Tune. Deep, dreamy and daring, each of these four tracks will instantly sooth and stimulate. From the light dubby flutters and Balearic references of "Worry Heart" to the slow motion, synth-submersion heartache of "Closer", the partnership of Evelyn Mason and Jeremiah Klein shows great promise and leaves you wanting more. Fans of anyone from WEEKND to Goldfrapp to The Knife to Kwamie Liv should pay serious attention.

SNB
Super Vega
Review: There's a great sense of mechanical scruffiness to Drumtalk's work. Like he's shoved a load of machines together that shouldn't really be talking to each other, but they do... And they do so with a loose, latent sense of funk and analogue soul. "SNB" is the lighter, hookier of the pair with its insistent uplift in the riff and big waves of synth washes. "Super Vega", meanwhile, plays the consummate badboy; nuances of UKG headbut classic Unique 3 style refrains with a bitter tech tongue. Or, to put it another way: two really flipping cool pieces of UK bass music.

Dead Channel/Pattern Break/City Scanners/Glitch In The Lexicon/Like An Amplified Heart
Review: The Bristol-based No Corner label has been responsible for some of the most interesting releases to be committed to cassette in recent years, and three of their best were recently committed to vinyl as part of From Them Reels, perhaps the finest looking collection issued in 2014. Those eager to pick up the Filter Dread, El Kid or Lily releases individually on vinyl have been well served by No Corner now, with Lily's Modern Malaise particularly worthy of this format. Last spotted on the Trumpets At Dawn 12? for Idle Hands with two floor-focused pieces of swirling machine funk, the producer also has some housier credits on Don't Be Afraid's Spargel Trax sublabel. Modern Malaise sees the producer take a distinctly more knackered approach than previous productions across two 18 minute suites of blended productions. Modern Malaise seems to be a place where sluggish percussion combines with deeper synth textures and spoken word passages in various languages to create something between the realm of club music and something more experimental. Highly recommended!

Antwerp
Lincolnshire Shuffle
Review: The freshly minted Shadowtrak label launches in style with some heavyweight 130BPM vibes from the exciting UK Bass pair up of Uprise Audio's Wayfarer and rising Londoner Kanjira. Lead track "Antwerp" is a deep-seated sub heavy roller that takes its cue from vintage jungle and the neck snapping riddims of West London's Broken Beat scene - proper early Seiji vibes on those drums. On the flip, "Lincolnshire Shuffle" takes a slinky breakbeat arrangement and gives it a rusty tribal edge that's complemented by delay laden bass lines that echo out mournfully with ominous presence.
