  1. Irrational Excess
  2. Disorderly Orchard
  3. Lost In A Blue Night
  4. South Side Will Rise (TLR edit)
Review: Danny Wolfers returns to his brilliant Chicago Shags alias - this time gracing the excellent Creme JAK series with some sublime analogue manoeuvres. "Irrational Excess" commences proceedings in ridiculous form, with Wolfers using all his machine funk expertise to throw down wave after wave of cascading analogue showers over unforgiving 808 rhythms. Wipe yourself down from that sweat filled joy for the more delicately melodic "Disorderly Orchard", with the rough acid and percussive edges offset by the intricate synth work. Traverse to the B Side where breathless vocal edits and gut hugging analogue basslines run through "Lost In A Blue Night" though it's the big waves of Chicago emotion that grab you. Finally the TLR Edit of "Southside Will Rise" could be the soundtrack to Snake Plisken's Escape From Chicago.

  4. Los Alamos Motel
Review: If you've ever got a few hours to spare, check out Legowelt's discography - the Dutch analogue fetishist is astonishingly productive (and, of course Legowelt is simply one of Danny Wolfers' many pseudonyms). Here, he adds another label to the growing list with a surprise appearance on Andrew Morgan's Washington D.C-based Peoples Potential Unlimited imprint. Unsurprisingly, Wolfers explores many of his favourite themes on Puzzles in Life, merrily skipping between melodic, bubbling deep house (the excellent title track), slo-mo Detroit futurism ("Video Phone To Space"), super-slo stargazing boogie (the superb "Cruise Till The Sun Shines") and woozy, intergalactic ambience ("Los Alamos Motel"). In many ways, this is an unusual turn from PPU, but it's a calculated gamble that's more than paid off.

Crystal Cult 2080 Album Sampler

  1. Crystal Code 2080 (extended 12" dub)
  2. Majestic Alchemy
  3. Mistral VHS
  4. Do What U Gotta Do
Review: The Hague-based Creme Organization label steered by DJ TLR has a long running working relationship with Danny Wolfers, with all manner of material from the alias happy Dutchman appearing on Creme Organisation over the past decade. The Crystal Cult 2080 Album sampler heralds, surprisingly enough, a new album from the producer next year under his famed Legowelt moniker. On the basis of these tracks it should be as strong a set as we've come to expect from Wolfers; the extended 12" dub of title track glistens and squelches in equal measure, while "Majestic Alchemy" and "Mistral VHS" pulsate with a stately sense of purpose. "Do What You Gotta Do" meanwhile, is a full-bodied belter with the kind of crushingly clean kicks and shimmering analogue chords only Wolfers can create.

  4. Phase5 (5:37)
Review: 50 releases in under four years is no mean feat, so a round of applause to Unknown to the Unknown who surpass the landmark with a new record from Legowelt. The superbly named Immensity Of Cosmic Space arrives hot on the heels of Legowelt's fine Vaporware Tracks record for Creme and sees the Dutchman exploring the realm of rave era breakbeat techno. Of course what makes Danny Wolfers work as Legowelt so distinctive his mastery of star gazing melodies and hearing them fused with recycled drum breaks on the title track and the Amen filled "Lumeria2" is a real delight.

  1. Stargazing
  2. Visions In My Mind
  3. Wayfaring Stranger
Review: Danny Wolfers is stuck in a groove right now, a hugely prolific production groove which has him tossing out new material on a seemingly weekly basis for all manner of labels. Hot on the heels of that Nacho Patrol 12" for Simonetti and a under the cover album for Blue Moon Safari comes this this three track debut for the equally relentless Unknown To The Unknown label. The Star Gazing EP makes for a wondrous display of Legowelt's talent for implementing those trademark melodies within various rhythmic frameworks; in the case of stand out track "Visions In My Mind", it's a hypnotic disco jacker lent no small degree of melancholy by the titular vocal.

Deep House
  1. Sampling Winter (5:48)
  2. Beach Oceano (5:47)
Review: Legowelt returns to Unknown To The Unknown for another bunch of wonderful excursions through obsolete musical technology under the banner Sampling Winter. Leading with the title track, this finds Danny Wolfers on a soulful and deep house vibe with a wandering and mesmerising melody, warm pads and super shuffling garage style rhythm. On the flip is "Beach Oceano" which is equally rich in soulfulness but more on the deeper techno vibe, with its sharp and hypnotising arpeggio backed by galactic melodies and glistening pads. All accentuated by analogue tape hiss in the background. This is raw!

Review: Those familiar with the Strange Life label operated by Danny Wolfers will know it's rife with CDr material worthy of the vinyl format. Whilst our personal favourite (the bizarre Portopia by Wolfers alias Satomi Taniyama) remains looked over by labels, Berceuse Heroique were responsible for a quite sumptuous double LP edition of Smackos album The Age Of Candy Candy earlier this year. Now local Den Haag crew BAKK have got their hands on 2004 Strange Life album Dark Days for an equally classy triple LP edition. Wolfers fans not familiar with this album will immediately fall in love with Dark Days, thanks to the signature blend of goofy track titles ("Lego Resistance", "An Obnoxious Affair On Tape") and music that veers from soaring, synth vistas to grotty techno via cold, primitive electronics and more.

  1. Legowelt - "Alien Abduction" (5:53)
  2. Dos Attack - "Flue" (5:27)
Review: Madrid's Riverette have been naughty since their debut back in 2014, their consistently high levels of house quality have impressed us...and Holland's maestro Legowelt, apparently! This is the Lowlands legend's third appearance on the label, and he's joined by DOS Attack for this one; the master lays down a truly 'classic' sort of Legowelt tune on the A-side, plenty of mystique and synth harmony going off left, right and centre, while DOS Attack's "Flue" is slower, spacier, and chugs along to a mid-tempo pace with the help of some powerful low-tones, and a great percussion flex. Yes, go on.
