Review: Given his prolific nature, it's perhaps surprising to find that 5 is actually Medhi Djebali's debut album. The title was apparently chosen as both a nod to the fifth anniversary of his self-titled label, and as a reflection of the number of months it took the Parisian to record it. As you might expect, it's an enjoyable collection of largely club-friendly cuts, with Djebali offering nods towards Robsoul style tech-house ("Nineties Playground", "Mister Bastard"), spacey ambience ("Heartgroover", "The Other Night"), acid (the funk-fuelled "D.B Cooper", "God's Dreams"), and warm, early morning deep house ("Seven Blessings", "Ideal Dawn"). To round things off, he also includes a head-nodding chunk of dreamy instrumental hip-hop (John Dimas collaboration "Suzaku").

  2. Urban Posture (John Dimas Whateverest mix) (6:22)
Review: France's Djebali returns with the third instalment of its remix series and as per usual, the cuts are given a good seeing to by some of the more gifted players in the tech-deep-house stratosphere. First up, Italy's Livio & Roby rework "Only Time Will Tell" and it's a straight-up hybrid which incorporates elements of minimal techno together with luscious, loungey deep house. On the flip, John Dimas turns in his "Whateverest" mix and it's a swinging bit of house hypnoticism (yes, we've made that word up because it just fits so well!) for the dancefloor, an outsider DJ tool if you like...

Review: Mehdi Djebali's back everyone: look out! Always bringing the goods on his eponymous vinyl only imprint, number 10 for the label sees the Frenchman throw down some more rolling, downright funky and undeniably sensual grooves to make discerning dancefloors sweat. Starting out with the smooth liquid groove of "The Nine Stars" which you could imagine warming up a heaving dancefloor just after midnight at Concrete. On the flip there's the ultra deep and super sexy "A Juiced Lie" that calls to mind the classic Parisan deep house sound of the early noughties by local heroes Jerome Pacman or D'julz.

  4. Politics Of Dancing - "One & Only" (7:14)
Review: Amongst the hustle and bustle of the Parisian house music scene Politics Of Dancing have been doing great things for the past three years. Now S.M.A.L.L and Paco are celebrating what they have achieved so far with a 12" that welcomes some highly respected characters to the label alongside familiar favourites. Janeret is on killer form with "First Light", using shimmering dub chords to course their way through a rock solid house beat in a simple but utterly effective style, before D'julz demonstrates his instinct for a killer hook with the organ-led fun and games of "Organic". Djebali keeps things tight and funky on "Aliahs", before the label bosses themselves round the record off with the irrepressible pump of "One & Only".

  1. The Red Circle (7:20)
  2. Tropic Duo (7:22)
Review: Spain's Giuseppe Tuccillo has been on the scene for 20 years, releasing on a who's who of labels that we don't have enough space to mention but let's just namedrop legends like Nite Grooves and King Street through to 20:20 Vision and 8 bit to name just a few. He now teams up with Frenchman Djebali on his eponymous imprint for the Red Tropic EP. On the A side "The Red Circle" is the kind of slinky and clean cut minimal tech house that calls to mind the sound of Dan Ghenacia's Freak N' Chic imprint, said to have been an influence on Djebali in the early noughties: this one's pretty funky. On the B side "Tropic Duo" is a more soulful Detroit inspired number reminiscent of Aril Brikha's finest work with those lush and entrancing Ensoniq EMS style stabs doing the business.
