Dave Smith Prophet Rev 2 16 Voice Polyphonic Analogue Synthesizer
 In den Warenkorb
 8 in stock $2,033.50
Cat: 638832 Rel: 26 Jun 17

16-voice, 61-key analog synthesizer with dual DCOs, sub-oscillator & 2/4-pole resonant lowpass Curtis filters
Notes: A Modern Classic Reinvented:
The Prophet REV2 is Dave Smith's reimagining of his Prophet '08 poly synth - a modern classic that has appeared on countless recordings and stages since its debut in 2007. As Dave puts it, "The Prophet REV2 is the realization of our effort to enhance and improve everything we could about the original design - all at a more accessible price."

The Prophet REV2 retains all of the key features of the Prophet '08 and expands on them. It has twice the polyphony, twice the mod matrix, waveshape modulation on all waveforms, digital effects per layer in stacked or split voice mode, a polyphonic step sequencer per layer, and more. The result is a true analog powerhouse.

Best of all, you can download any of the many existing libraries of Prophet '08 sounds and they will not only sound identical, but can be enhanced with the new features.

16-Voice Polyphony:
With 16 voices to play with, you have the freedom to allocate them as you wish. Play two-fisted chords, stack two 8-voice sounds for massive, complex textures, or split the keyboard into two completely separate 8-voice instruments.

Bold Sound:
The Prophet REV2 gets its bold, punchy sound from its 2/4 pole, low-pass, resonant Curtis filters per voice. These are the same filters used not only in the Prophet '08, but in many classic instruments of the 70's and 80's. A separate Audio Mod control adds additional harmonic complexity and movement.

Waveshape Modulation:
A powerful new feature unique to the Prophet REV2 is waveshape modulation. You can now vary the "pulse width" of any of the four waveforms (sawtooth, saw+tri, triangle, square). Using the Shape Mod control, you can manually dial in a desired waveshape width or use an LFO or other mod source for continuously shifting timbre. Even single-oscillator sounds take on new depth and dimension. The tonal possibilities are vast.

Effects Per Layer:
The effects section provides reverb, delays (standard and BBD), chorus, phase shifter, ring modulation, and distortion. In stacked or split voice mode, you can apply a different effect to each layer. Effects parameters can be modulated through the Mod Matrix.

Extended Mod Matrix:
Also present from its predecessor is an easy-to-assign Mod Matrix, now twice as big, with 8 individual slots and many more sources/destinations. It's a veritable sound designer's playground.

Poly Step Sequencing:
The polyphonic step sequencer allows up to 64 steps and up to 6 notes per step. You can create a different sequence for each layer when you are working in stacked or split voice mode, making it a powerful tool for composition or performance. The sequencer also functions as a modulation source in gated mode, allowing you to create up to 4 different 16-step sequences for complex modulation. Sequences allow ties and rests, and can sync to an external MIDI clock. The arpeggiator features note repeats, re-latching, and can be synced to external MIDI clock, as well.

Per-Knob Programmability:
The knob-per-function front panel offers instant access to Prophet REV2 functions. Included are 512 permanent factory programs and 512 rewritable user programs.

Eminently Playable:
All of this polyphonic power is packed into a five-octave, premium-quality, semi-weighted keyboard with velocity and channel aftertouch. Other road-worthy features include an integrated power supply, USB support, and a crisp OLED display, making the Prophet REV2 an ideal instrument for gigging or recording, and an analog powerhouse like no other.

  1. Psychemagik - "Dreams" (Crystal Visions remix) (9:23)
  2. Red Ken - "Big Love" (Big Four Letter Word mix) (6:17)
Review: Psychemagik love Fleetwood Mac. Their love is so enduring that the dusty fingered editors/DJs/revered record collectors have gone so far as to found Fleetmac Wood, a club night dedicated to the work of Fleetwood, Nicks, McVie and the various other manifestations, where anything goes so long as it's Fleetwood Mac related. Their remix of "Dreams" has been getting playtime at the night - and by other well regarded DJs - and finally makes an appearance on this limited 12". What's immediately noticeable about the Crystal Visions Remix of "Dreams" is how much they add to the track without messing with the original's essence - it's also a lot more inventive than Psychemagik's 2009 edit of "Everywhere" which shows how far they've come in three years. Flip over for a great extension of Juno's favourite Mac moment "Big Love" from AOR Disco's Red Ken.

Review: Yes Eglo! Alex Nut and crew turn to two elder statesmen of London beat science in Dego and Kaidi Tatham for a killer induction into the art of crafting 'broken beat bullets'. For those who don't possess the necessary knowledge, Dego is the most familiar handle of Dennis McFarlane, founding member of 4Hero and responsible for so much good music over the years, and Tatham has an equally important role in the whole Broken Beat movement, being an integral member of the Bugz In the Attic collective. The pair have worked together previously on numerous occasions and they are on top form here with lead track "Ankle Injury" demonstrating a perfect balance of melody and crafty rhythm. Imagine Theo and Floating Points collaborating and your heads in the right spot to enjoy this track and "Acting Up On That Shit Don't Count" which is the sort of music you could imagine RAMP to be making if they were on the rise today. Do check the sumptuous piano and Rhodes vibes on final cut "Carrots & Sesame"!!

  2. Golden Garden (8:51)
Review: Following an acclaimed appearance on People's Potential Unlimited, Pender Street Steppers return home to Mood Hut with two chunks of willfully loose, dusty and picturesque analogue deep house gems. "Glass City" is superb, with fluttering synthesized horns and becalmed horns gracefully stretching out over a typically sparse but jazzy rhythm and a warm-to-touch bassline. They go even deeper and slower on the flip, with "Golden Garden" delivering pitched-down beats, unfeasibly dreamy, stretched-out chords, and oodles of well-placed dub delay. It's not so much new age house, as the most blazed deep house track you'll hear all year. And, yes, it's also superb.

  2. Track 2 (6:42)
Review: The mysterious Crue returns with two body-twisting floor-burners for the peak-time hours. Thumping drums and old-skool chords are the main ingredients here, with the A-Side bringing some ruthless bass kicks into action alongside smooth but seductively off-kilter keys - not forgetting those ringing 90s vocals to wrap everything up nicely into a Head High reminiscent power bomb. Over on the flip, similarly ferocious bass drums pounce heavily against a wall of nostalgic but euphoric female vocals. All we know about these slabs of wax is that they originate from Spain and, oh, they come in lovely transparent marbled vinyl. A definite tip.

Deep House
  1. Track 1 (7:45)
  2. Track 2 (7:09)
Review: Re-editing or reworking old Sade appears to be a growing trend. In the past couple of years, we've had killer deep house revisions of the British soulstress from Vin Sol and Matrixxman, and, most recently, Adesse Versions. Here Florian Kupfer adds his name to the Sade re-edit roll of honour, delivering typically lush, sensual and steamy revisions of a couple of classics. On the A, he tackles "Couldn't Love You More", turning it into a chunky roller (by way of snappy 909 percussion hits and weighty bottom end), whilst retaining the drifting beauty of Sade's original vocal. In some ways, the more stripped back and dustier flipside rub (of a different Sade track, naturally), is even better, sounding like a fuzzy, chiming deep house take on the L.I.E.S sound. This is getting a lot of hype, so expect it to sell out swiftly.

Review: After releases on Goodgroove and Riddim Fruit, The Allergies, aka Bristol nu-funk duo DJ Moneyshot and Rackabeat, found a welcome home in Jalapeno for their debut album, As We Do Our Thing, which was released earlier this year. Vinyl fans sore at the lack of the album in their preferred format will find consolation in the fact two gleaming highlights now feature on this 45 for Jalapeno. Up top, the smart soul sampling and tight breakbeat patterns of "Love's Supposed To Be" represent all that is good about the party-starting style of The Allergies, whilst "As We Do Our Thing" is a more midtempo horn funker.

Review: Never one to rest on his laurels, Colin McBean has been as busy this year as any other, continually flying out the highest grade house and techno reductions for those who like their grooves pure and punchy. Most of that material surfaces on his Phoenix G label, but he has plenty of time (and music) for other labels too. This release on Dungeon Meat previously came out back in 2015 and has since been hailed as one of McBean's finest, so here it is in all its repressed glory. The beats are unrelenting, the feeling tripped out and alluring, just like all the best Mr G material.

Review: Short lived Italian pop outfit Plustwo recorded two EPs between 1983 and 1984 and one of them gets a re-issue on Hysteric's Mothball Records out of Melbourne, Australia which seems is devoted purely to Italo disco. "Melody" is all very cute and catchy with its pitch bend synth bass, Klavier stabs and Kate Bush like vocals. On the flip "Stop Fantasy" is more straight up disco for night people that you'd find yourself singing and clapping along to in no time. A favourite for many a seasoned record digger, now's your chance to snap up a worthwhile Italo gem.

Review: The latest Ten Thousand Yen release is a vinyl only affair from label founder Doc Daneeka that has summer on its mind and certainly sounds like it was a hoot to produce. Samples abound across the two tracks, with "Never Wanna Lose You" standing out for the manner in which Daneeka gleefully toys around with classic breakbeats and freestyle vocal hooks, squeezing in plenty of loops and filters along the way. One for the drunken, messy moments deep into a night in a basement. On the flip "Got Me" is as good a slice of disco-infused house music as you'd expect from a Soundstream record. Great fun.

Review: Derry boys Queen & Disco return for a third outing on their eponymous label, serving up two gently straightened out edits tweaked for peak-time plays. On the A-side you'll find the rising strings, rich orchestration and celebratory vocals of "Let's Go All The Way", a guitar solo-laden disco bumper tailor made for party-starting fun. Arguably even better is "Just Be Yourself", a high-octane disco thumper that's a little more loopy and house-friendly in construction. It sits somewhere between the thumping loop jams of Soundstream, the riotously camp thrust of Sylvester, and the "drum machine added" edit thrills of Boogie Cafe boss man Jimmy The Twin.

Review: This tasty, DJ-friendly 7" single boasts two extended, break-heavy reworks of obscure and in-demand soul workouts. On the A-side you'll find a tasty extension of Melvin Bliss's superb, piano-heavy 1983 cut "Synthetic Substitution". While Bliss's brilliant original - all heartfelt vocals, jaunty keys and warm bass - is largely kept in tact, the mystery re-editor naturally makes more of the opening breakbeat, which was sampled several times during hip-hop's "golden era". Flip for a similarly tasty rearrangement of Sweet Daddy Floyd's 1978 Blaxploitation style disco-funk shuffler "I Just Can't Help Myself", a cut rich in rolling breaks, densely layered percussion, punchy orchestration and "Shaft"-style guitar licks.

Review: The ACJ94 EP comes courtesy of Accidental Jnr, a new sub-label of Matthew Herbert's Accidental. Here he presents a remix of Jamie Lidell's "When I Come Back Round" from 2005's Multiply. Entitled "Live version - Matthew Herbert long Night dub" it's a much more raw and funky take on the track with tough drums and emotive elements where the source material is, like its name suggests, from an appearance on an L.A. radio station from some years ago. On the B side, we have the man himself Herbert with a new track entitled "Megaphone" a classic and proper deep house jam for the late night that's expertly crafted by the artist who has brought us such timeless classics like "See You On Monday" amongst many others.

Review: Since the dawn of the 1990s, David "Move D" Moufang has been one of house and techno's most reliable producers. It's no surprise, then, that this double-header - featuring a solo production, and a fresh collaboration with Jonah Sharp under the long-running Reagenz alias - is pretty darn hot. Moufang's "Roll Split" is a deliciously spacey, emotion-rich and enveloping affair that builds to a head-spinning conclusion via waves of undulating Motor City electronics, tactile riffs, surging bass and intergalactic chords. The Reagenz tune, "460 Melrose Place", is similarly cosmic in outlook, with the veteran duo smothering a superb drum machine groove with stretched out chords, pulsating sub bass, glistening, ambient techno style motifs, and shuffling bongo hits.

Review: In recent years, original copies of Marcus Mixx's superb 1992 single "Liquid Love" - a sublime chunk of deep house for the ages - have become sought-after amongst collectors. This can partly explained by the fact that the 12" boasted a rare remix from the late, great Ron Hardy, which brilliantly peppered the original's Mr Fingers style groove with whistling synthesizer melodies, lilting chords and sweet vocal loops. Hardy's mix naturally takes pride of place on the flipside of this on-point reissue. On the A-side you'll find the rich, soulful and full vocal "New York Mix" - think vintage Nu Groove with a dash of Dream II Science, and you're close - and the "Can You Feel It" mix, which offers a loving tribute to the Chicago deep house style of Larry Heard.

Review: Owen Jay and Melchior Sultana are frequently found working in tandem on their particular brand of contemporary deep house, and this is the second time they've been snapped up by Contrast Wax following The Aftermath EP back in 2014. The mood is smooth and sultry on the title track for this new 12", with a sensual sax lead taking centre stage over the kind of gentle bump that would sit comfortably on Guidance Recordings. "Bubbles Floating In The Sky", as the title would suggest, is an equally mellow mover, while B-side lounger "Saturn" heads into even calmer waters with its hushed pad tones and technoid synth pulses.

Arguably one of his most powerful collections of sounds to date, highlights hang off every silken corner. Review: Hyped Barcelona DJ/producer and '90s U.S sitcom fan DJ Seinfeld is in the midst of a rich vein of form, with recent EPs on Lobster Fury and Endotherm only enhancing his rising reputation. This collection of analogue-rich, alien techno workouts on Natural Sciences is, predictably, also rather good. There's a pleasing looseness to the clattering drum machine hits, thrusting analogue bass, psychedelic electronics and cut-up vocal samples of "Vaping Lyf", while "Ruff Hysteria" sounds like late '80s Chicago deep house crossed with the fluttering, head-in-the-clouds innocence of early '90s ambient techno. Review: People Must Jam started 2017 in confident fashion, unveiling a brilliant loose, warm and jazzy EP from returning producer System Status. Here, they attempt to shine a light on another fast rising talent, Das Complex. The Polish producer is in predictably fine form from the word go, slapping down the hazy, bass-heavy dub disco grooves and delay-laden synths of "Under Feet". He wanders a little further towards red-eye deep house territory on the shuffling "W Podwodnym Pasniku", before ratcheting up the energy levels a notch or two on the jaunty, disco-tinged dub-house flex of "Bearded Dwarf". Arguably best of all, though, is closer "When", a bouncy and crispy cut that offers a near perfect fusion of dub-disco aesthetics and deep house bump.

Happily, this two-tracker on G.A.M.M could well be his strongest release to date. A-side "Blessing" is a brilliantly teased-out revision of a stomping disco-soul anthem, which rises, falls and rises again magnificently over 12 mesmerizing minutes. Arguably even better, though, is his Ron Hardy inspired rework of a well-known Italo-disco cover version of Led Zepellin's "Whole Lotta Love". The Chicagoan expertly works the track hard for nearly 15 minutes, alternating between sleazy vocal passages and the throbbing, sleazy instrumentation.

Starting off on the A side with the tough, rhythmic and rolling DJ tool "Let The Church" which is interspersed with the mandatory diva vocal for added hands in the air effect: this one really brings it! Next up the is the uplifting and life affirming church celebration (techno style) on "Made Up In My Mind" which utilises one woman's powerful preaching at a sermon to magnificent effect. On the flip is more typical M-Plant faire, with the hypnotic and cyclical adrenaline of "He Can Save You" which is more suited to dark and sweaty warehouse space His daughter and newly appointed DJ partner Lyric Hood's mix of "Never Grow Old" from 2013's tremendous Paradise LP is a fantastic reshape of the now classic tune.

Review: Fresh off that awesome Unit 2 reissue of Happy Recordings, Running Back now look to some early works of seminal NYC duo Mateo & Matos under their Alex M. alias: its namesake dedicated to Mateo's late brother. The EP was originally released in 1992 on their Final Cut sub label, which became defunct the same year after around eight releases. On the A side is the deeply sublime and evocative zeitgeist of early 90's house; Big Apple style, on "It Works" and the deeper "Without Thought (Bassline 1)" which is more reminiscent of the Windy City sound actually. On the flip, the funky and stripped back late night groove of "Lakeview Slang (First mix)" is a familiar groove with a mesmerising melody and those dusty swing fuelled rhythms beneath. A time capsule from an important time in the genre's development by house music royalty on this respectful reissue.

Review: There's a case to say that Folamour has yet to put a foot wrong in 2017. Over the year to date, he's released killer EPs on All City, Moonrise Hill Material and Roots For Bloom, as well as contributing fine tracks to a number of other 12" singles. Predictably, this outing on Church is also hotter than the sun. "Jazz Session For Future People" is a killer chunk of life-affirming jazz-house bounciness that offers a near perfect balance between rolling dancefloor funk and intricate musicality, while "Melophrenia" is a supremely smoky slab of ultra-deep wooziness. Arguably best of all, though, is the hip-hop tempo synthesizer Balearica of "Janvier In Bed", which may well be his most tactile and glassy-eyed cut to date.

Review: Following initial appearances on Bahnsteig 23, Jonny 5 returns on the Pleasure Wave label with more of that well-travelled, groovesome voodoo for all manner of sonic wayfarers. "Apocalypse" in particular is a stunning piece of tom-powered menace, but it's quickly offset by the bubbling cosmic delights of "Electronix". "Firedance" on the B-side channels some righteous 80s industrial and synth pop tropes to create it's own kind of drama, and then "Stardriver" finishes the EP off with some pulsing, noirish wave synths and gaseous atmospherics. With the styles shifting from track to track, Jonny 5 has once again done a sterling job of keeping his options open and keeping us locked expectantly into his delirious sound.

Genuine magic on 12 inches; we've been waiting for this one for a long time.

Review: Glaswegian imprint Numbers returns with one of their all time favourites in the form of Roman techno legend Lory D. Chief engineer of the 'Sound Of Rome' alongside fellow cohorts Leo Anibaldi and the inimitable Donato Dozzy: who he played a rare back to back set with at 2016's Berlin Atonal. From being the first ever guests at one of their first parties back in the day, to this release: the fifth edition in his know renowned Strange Days series of EPs. The elusive and mysterious figure (and Sounds Never Seen boss) starts off with the restrained and stripped back techno tool "Deep Acoustic" which is the kind of well executed groove that proves less is more. There's then the typical energy flash of the Italian on the mentalist groove of "Acid CLX22". On the flip, more warped and jacking techno shenanigans continue on the crazy "Mg Comp Strngd" while the deep and hypnotic cyclicality of "Suoneria" with its mesmerising and trance inducing melody proves once again that, indeed: Italians do it better.

Douglas & Lonero enjoyed a good vein of major form on Columbia for a while, including a live album Live At Charley Brown's, but this 1975-released RCA 45 has been the most collectable (with OG copies of the double-sided pressing fetching over 500 pounds sterling in the past) Fully remastered from the original tapes, this is the clearest, sharpest and sweatiest Douglas & Lonero have ever sounded.

Review: Taking brains to other dimensions for well over a decade now, Maceo returns to wax for the first time this year with two certified brain-melters: "The Tesseract" tackles the complexity of the fourth dimension with a classic rolling drum arrangement wrapped in perplexing layers of bass. "5th Dimension Groove" turns your brain inside out even more as the running groove swoops to sub-frequency levels before a stark bass roar enters the fray and turns everything on its head. Maceo has never been one-dimensional.

Review: New York City's Francis Harris and Parisian Anthony Collins return as Frank & Tony with the Odes EP. This will be the final collaboration on their esteemed Scissor & Thread imprint. Kicking off proceedings with the classic, Windy City deep house sound of "Procession" which will hypnotise you in evocative style. The title track up next is truly bittersweet and melancholic; taking its cues once again from Chicago legends like Larry Heard or DaRand Land. Speaking of which, the latter is up next for a collaboration with the pair on B side offering "This Time" where the Deep4life alumnus injects some truly breathtaking and seductive deepness into the track which compliments their dusty rhythms and smoky synth textures. Finally, "Surface Prelude" is the EP's most optimistic moment; this uplifting jam is perfect to play as the last track, right as the sunlight creeps in through the blinds up at that Bushwick loft party on Sunday morning.

Review: Berlin's Nick Beringer (Rubisco/Wax Classic/Kase Kool) is back on on Greek DJ Stassy's Taverna Tracks with another banging EP! It dishes out four trippy, dreamy jams with a classic house attitude. Starting off on the A side with the rolling/late night deep house of "Area 22" with its subtle acid flourishes. It's then on to the title track, which rounds off the A side in style on this sexy, swing fuelled minimal house jam. On the flip, jazzy/hip hop inspired broken beat house is the order of the day, on the quite Money $ex indebted "Slack Joint" while "Airdrop" is the EPs finest moment: this hypnotic and sunny tech house journey really ticks all the boxes. The Foundation is set!

  4. Andromeda (feat Zanias) (8:09)
Review: Not to get all hyped-out, but it appears that Candela Rising is quietly racing up quite a stellar catalogue. Just to name drop a few peeps, they've put out an impressive run of techno bullets from the likes of Lakker, Eomac, Manni Dee, and now the mighty Ancient Methods, among others. Sometimes you just gotta tip your hat off! Michael Wollenhaupt is now manning the iconic techno project on his own, but if this new EP is anything to go by then it sounds like he's got it under control. From "Swallow The Screw" all the way to "Andromeda", which features the fledgling Zanias, this is high-tech rave gear with a noticeable industrial edge. In fact, the 4/4 elements almost go unnoticed amid the ocean of distortions and screeching power electronics. Of course, you'd still wanna bang this out at 4am on a dancefloor, but it's the sort of techno that the noise heads will find undoubtedly rewarding.

Review: Next up on Aus Music is the welcome return of a label regular: Marquis Hawkes. Having released four EPs on Will Saul's label thus far, he makes his return in the form of these blazing, floor-focused two tracks which sit neatly with previous outings on the label. "The Basement Is Burning" takes its name from the time of an electrical fire in the artist's home, which resulted in him and his family being evacuated from a fifth floor balcony. This soulful and life affirming classic house jam is geared for some sure hands in the air moment, with its addictive church organ melody, tough rhythm patterns and evocative strings all doing the business proper over its glorious nine minute duration. On the flip "Tower Block Boogie" is a tough and funky hard house jam, fuelled by dusty/overdriven drums and hypnotic disco loops that are filtered to perfection.

Two sides shrouded with his signature eastern haze, "Ominous Shanti" sees the horns gradually melting in the heat while the intricately laced percussion holds the groove together. "Black Enchantment" lollops with more of a new soul step as lilting horns rise over a bubblesome strolling bassline before switching into a deliciously cosmic finale. Grab it while it's hot.

  3. The Munaana Of Mugwisa (Ishmael controls)
Review: On The Corner's latest inspired curiosity is an electronic/acoustic fusion treat. The project features electronic musicians Santuri, Soundthread and OtC re-modelling acoustic recordings of Uganda's Mugwisa International Xylophone group. These tracks will see the light of day later this year; first, a trio of tracks gets given the remix treatment. First, Sam Jones delivers an undulating, Afrobeat-influenced interpretation of "Jinja Pearls", before Alejandro Mosso laces sweet, evocative, Ugandan instrumentation over rolling electronic house beats on his version of "Mazongoto Woods". Finally, Bristol-based producer Ishmael steals the show with a wobbly, skewed, off-kilter house revision of "The Munana Of Mugwisa", where fluid xylophones rub shoulders with pulsating synth bass and glassy-eyed electronic stabs.
