Digitech SDRUM Strummable Drums Pedal (drum machine/effects pedal)
Cat: 658045 Rel: 21 Aug 17

Guitar-controlled drum machine featuring BeatScratch technology - create drum patterns by strumming your strings
Notes: SDRUM is the world's first intelligent drum machine for guitarists and bassists. By simply scratching across your guitar strings, you teach the SDRUM a kick and snare pattern that forms the foundation of the beat you want to hear. Based on this pattern, the SDRUM supplies a professional sounding drum beat with different embellishments and variations to perfectly complement your beat. Gone are the days of having your creative flow disrupted by searching through lists in a frustrating attempt to find the beat you want.

The SDRUM stores up to 36 different songs. Beats are played from a choice of 5 different kits covering a wide range of genres. The pedal also supports three different parts (e.g. verse/chorus/bridge) for each song that can be switched on the fly for enhancing live performances and exploring song ideas.

SDRUM is the fastest way to go from a beat idea to a working drum track.

Novation Circuit Mono Station Paraphonic Analogue Synthesizer
 In den Warenkorb
 4 in stock $648.01
Cat: 647241 Rel: 21 Aug 17

Compact, next-generation monosynth with 32 velocity-sensitive RGB pads
Notes: Circuit Mono Station is a next-generation sequenced monosynth that originates from the Bass Station II, with three sequencer tracks that benefit from the 32 velocity-sensitive RGB pads found on Circuit.

The synth has two oscillators, three distortion modes, plus one multi-mode filter with high-pass, low-pass or band-pass. With Circuit Mono Station, the sync and tuning parameters of its two oscillators can be individually controlled. It also offers four waveshapes (sawtooth, triangle, square and sample + hold), a sub-oscillator, ring modulation and noise generation. Users can get the frequency band they want by applying high-pass, low-pass and band-pass filters with slopes of 12dB and 24dB.

In addition, Circuit Mono Station introduces a powerful overdrive. Both monophonic and paraphonic modes are available, with each oscillator individually controlled by its own sequencer. There are three sequencer tracks: two oscillator sequencers and one modulation sequencer. Users can alter Gate length, switch patterns instantly, choose sync rate and mutate patterns.

A four-by-eight modulation matrix makes it possible to route from LFO with four waveshapes, envelope, sequencer or velocity, enabling complex modulation for pitch, pulse-width, amp, filter, distortion or CV. Up to 64 patches can be loaded and saved on the device, right at the user's fingertips. Circuit Mono Station controls separate hardware via CV, Gate and modulation outputs, and has MIDI In, Out and Thru, so other MIDI gear can be connected. Via USB, Circuit Mono Station can be plugged into Mac or PC, where unlimited patches can be managed using Components.

Novation Peak Eight Voice Polyphonic Synthesizer
 In den Warenkorb
 1 in stock $1,689.69
Cat: 647812 Rel: 21 Aug 17

8-voice desktop polyphonic synthesizer module with three oscillators per voice
Notes: Peak is an eight-voice desktop polyphonic synthesiser with three New Oxford Oscillators for each voice. The oscillators sound completely analogue by being high-quality NCOs (Numerically-Controlled Oscillators), but gain the flexibility of the digital domain with 17 digital wavetables. They can also become a linear FM source using either the analogue-sounding NCOs or digital wavetables - so are able to cross-modulate in a recursive loop.

The synth has a resonant multi-mode analogue filter for each voice, and three distortion points for each voice - pre-filter, post-filter and global - in an analogue signal chain. Peak is capable of receiving polyphonic aftertouch, which puts expression right at your fingertips. Reverb, delay and chorus effects are at one's disposal, and there is also an on-board arpeggiator.

The modulation system puts a 16-slot modulation matrix and 16 direct assignments in the main controls, cleverly arranged for intuitive patch design and sound editing. There are three ADSR envelopes and two LFOs for each voice, and more elaborate movements and secondary 'via' assignments are made just a few menu button presses away. In addition, two animate buttons give live performers instant one-touch transformation of patches.

Peak connects to modular systems via a CV modulation input, and has MIDI I/O on five-pin DIN ports, so other MIDI gear can be connected. Via USB, Peak can be plugged into Mac or PC, where unlimited patches can be kept using the Components software.

Review: More tasty treats from the increasingly dependable Take Away crew as Bristol vibe chef comes through with an exceptional feast of deeply dug feels. "Legalize It" riffs on a classic standard with a little vibraphone sweetness, "Sweet Island Jam" takes us so close to the shoreline your toes get wet while "Think About What You Do" sways with instant feel good appeal where the horns and vocals play equal part in the harmonic experience. Shaking your hips so hard your grass skirt falls off, doing Admin has never been so much fun.

  4. Alex Zuiev - "Afro Magic" (6:31)
Review: There's no complex concept behind the latest four-track EP from the reliable Whiskey Disco camp, just a quartet of killer re-edits crying out for peak-time plays. Highlights wise, we're particularly enjoying the hard-spun Afro-disco grooves and well-placed dub delays of Alex Zuiev's "Afro Magic", though Alkalino's quirky opener - a thrillingly dubbed-out take on a tongue-in-cheek, left-of-centre disco treat - is also superb. Elsewhere, Love Drop sticks heavy new house beats underneath a stone cold classic (listen to the clips and you'll be able to identify the source material in seconds), while Terrence Pearce crafts a space-disco epic out of undulating Afro-disco grooves, bleeping synth melodies and some seriously cosmic effects.

  1. Eduction (8:49)
  2. Eduction (Hironori Takahashi remix) (6:54)
Review: This is the sixth vinyl release from the Kin-Ben LABEL, based in Niihama City, Japan. Releasing since 2012, the label was founded by Akinori Ishii aka The Human & Assets. When it comes to hypnotic techno, the Japanese really know a thing or two and this release follows in the tradition of such masters of the art as Iori, Wata Igarashi or the legendary Takaaki Itoh. On the A side is the slow burning alien groove of "Eduction" which drones and slithers away nefariously in odd synthesis and creepy sound design. This one will will appeal to fans of Mike Parker or Rrose. On the flip, Tokyo techno stalwart Hironori Takahashi (Gynoid/Arts) is back. His rework of the track is more straight ahead and certainly in your face! This industrial strength epic is full of harsh metallic strikes and ultra hypnotic loops, supported by a relentless warehouse style stomp.

Review: It's a good time to be an Artificial Intelligence fan. Hot on the heels of their "Reprisal" EP on Headz they return to their Integral mothership for four more understated slices of golden drum & bass. "Ask Yourself" teases with shades of cut up vocal soul over a heavily textured groove and loose percussive elements while "True Colours" goes all-out dreamy with a string hook and vocal to die for. Deeper into the EP we chow for the barbed banquet of futurist soul that is "Waiting For" followed by the soothing stepper palette of "Holding Out". Truth.

Review: The legendary Phil Asher (yes, he of Restless Soul fame) is a DJ, producer and an integral figure in London's dance music community over the last 20 years. He returns for the first time since 2015's Time & Space EP on Rekids, with a bit of help from buddy Dwala for UK based moreaboutmusic: who've released some fine grooves of late by the likes of Mike Dunn and Deep Space Orchestra. A side cut "Sparkle" (AJ's Dance) is a glorious serving of Detroit style hi-tech soul, reminiscent of "Jupiter Jazz" era Underground Resistance with its emotive and euphoric spaciness. On the flip is "Today's Tomorrow" which really brings the funk on this deep joint that's straight off of the mothership. Check it out!

Review: Absolute technoid grit from Sam and Danny as they soundtrack a hairy weekend of studio experimentation in Munich. Curveballs to the bitter distorted end, there's a fluidity and not-sit-still-ability running throughout the two as the pair defenestrate convention and get hands on. The delightfully titled "Frolic In Brine" is a swampy piece of tribal acid-tinged rollage with a toxic bassline emerging midway while "Further Peaks" is a drone procession that refuses to quit as it doubles and folds in on itself with decaying, mesmerising effect. Not what you'd expect from either party, which makes it all the more exciting. Pass the brine.

Four cuts in all, each one driving with a deep tracky nature but the perfect balance of leftfield approach; the dusty foggy keys on "100,00", the swung percussion and otherworldly textures on "Miles", the jazzy dynamics and Detroitian insistency of "Bongo" and the stuttering technoid lunar excursion "Cue Ball" all maintain Money Sex's reputation for experimentation that still kicks ass on the floor.

  2. Deep In (Len Faki Deepspace mix) (6:16)
Review: Stephen Brown's "Deep In" first surfaced last summer, delivering a breezy dancefloor punch to the guts full of bouncy techno drums, analogue synth-bass and fluttering vocal samples. A year on it returns, this time reworked by long serving Berlin producer Len Faki. On the A-style you'll find the "Hardspace Mix", in which Faki puts a rocket under the Edinborough producer's original. While it remains bouncy and the female vocal samples take pride of place, the percussion is tougher and closer in feel to classic Motor City rhythms. Turn to side B and you'll find the "Deepsace Mix", a thrillingly hypnotic interpretation seemingly tailor made to cause commotion in German clubs at 7am. Deep, driving and percussive, it's a real Teutonic treat.

Review: Edinburgh's Stephen Brown has always (and still is) waving the techno flag way up high for the Scottish nation. The man has been on it since the mid 90s, and it's safe to se late him as a veritable veteran by now. This new EP for the excellent Echocord feels like a natural turn of events, especially given how magnificently dubby "Sandtext" feels like. "Wet" tries to offer a bumpier sort of ride thanks to sliding chords and huge slabs of bass, while "Backstroke" goes in with that classic, Sun-kissed dub techno flex which Brown, among others, helped to solidify.

Review: Since going solo last year, former Onra collaborator Byron Blaylock has yet to put a foot wrong. Each successive 12" has brought with it a swathe of killer new jams straddling the blurred lines between soul, jazz, hip-hop, deep house and jazz-funk. There's more of the same on Leaving This Planet, the Alabama-raised producer's first EP for the mighty Eglo. So while opener "Song for a Friend" is a superior, jazz-flecked deep house bumper smothered in killer electric piano solos, the track that follows, "Mind, Body & Soul" is a squelchy tech-jazz masterpiece. It's the same story on the flip, as floor-friendly jazz-breaks ("Blow Your Mind") make way for a heady trip into intergalactic jazz-funk territory ("SSDP"). As the worn-out old saying goes, this is "all killer, no filler".

Review: David Carretta, the pride of Marseille, is back on our charts through the GND imprint and it's clear that the French tech producer is up for it and down with the vibe. "Machines Invasion" is a relentless techno bruiser that carries mounds of bass and atmospherics to end up with a heavy, box to box bullet intended purely for dance floor destruction. The Turbo Turbo remix takes a sinister spin on the original, and comes through with a dark, ominous techno wormhole that reminds us of Blawan's early material. Bombs!

Review: As you can imagine, the For Club label's modus operandi is to get people onto their feet and nodding those heads. The core of it is that simple - and so it should be! They kick off with this collaborative opener, with Alan Castro's bleeping house experiment to open the festivities, followed rather smartly by Neik and the supremely glitchy "Hippie Futurista". On the flip, Yanee's "Morph" is an itchy groove filled with all sorts of percussive flair, whereas "North Market At 3 AM" sees Pedro D'Alessandro and Maxi Fried construct a beautifully funky little house number with an elegant swing.

"Deixa o Morro Cantar" features on Claudia's very first 7", released in 1965 by RGE Brazil. Her version of "Mas Que Nada" is said to be more of a jazzy/folk-funk take on the Ben classic. A relatively recent discovery made during the label's last trip to Brazil, Maria das Gracas Rallo was born in 1946 in Rio de Janeiro. She has become the most awarded singer outside of her home country and was most popular internationally in 1982 with the song "Don't Cry for Me Argentina" from the musical Evita. Moreover, she has recorded over twenty albums and has amassed huge record sales throughout her successful career.

Building on his impressive two-year discography once again, he returns to Loxy's Cylon with two more heavy pressure deep steppers. "Artifact" is all about the percussive hook that weaves in and out of the cavernous atmospherics, "Sightings" harbours even more space as the beats strip back to shimmering elements allowing the suspense and pure density of the textures to seep through. Review: Burnski's and Jon Woodall's Constant Sound sublabel Constant Black continues its march into the underbelly of heads down club tracks with this installment from the hitherto unfamiliar Constant. Whether it's Burnski under a different guise remains to be seen, but the quality of the tracks is the prime concern here. The A1 track is the perfect blend of tech house, with a hooky rhythm section and all manner of shimmering sonic delights spread out on top. The A2 taps a more reduced house vein, keeping the beats slender and the melodic elements subtle and dubby. The B side cut seems to merge the two to create a bubbling slice of swinging funk for the subliminal generation.

Review: Reissue anthem alert!! Another Day drop DJ Bone's early material from Metroplex back onto vinyl with this tasty reincarnation of the 1999 juggernaut. When this badboy first came out, no one was doing percussion the same way as Bone, with tunes like "Shut The Lites Off" capable of destroying any dance floor with its sublime balance of harmonies and hard beats. "The Funk" offered new and curious shades of electro madness to the scene - a cocktail which still sounds fresh now - and "The Haunting" smashes out the funky techno for warehouse use.

Review: This man's output is anything but boring this year. Previously spotted on E-Beamz and Shall Not Fade he now joins the party at Shall Not Fade sister label Lost Palms. Once again it's straight to the floor jacking business with no care for unnecessary polish. "Different Dates" is pounding and acidic, "Lonely Valentine" chugs with a dreamier, swooning feel while "I Know You Want To" flexes some superb vocal sample artistry. Remix-wise Baltra adds a little acid silkier synths to the mix with sexy results. Say yeah.

  2. Dead Sunday
  3. Achromatic
Review: The latest Crimes Of The Future comes from Dimitri Distant and LVRIN, two emergent artists with a penchant for pitch black grooves steeped in the kind of acidic, wavey styles that COTF are consistently striking gold with. "Blasphemy" is a powerful slice of reductionist acid that uses a bare minimum of elements to create a sinister atmosphere to strike fear into the hearts of unwitting dancers. "Dead Sunday" is no slouch in the creepy department either, its clattering beats and bubbly acid line straining against a tape-stretched backdrop of synthesizer malaise. "Achromatic" switches stance to slow, undead electro soaked in embalming fluid and filtered through a B-movie veil for maximum guttural impact.

Minimal/Tech House
  1. Space Cadet (8:49)
  2. Halfjack (8:16)
Review: Aside from a few, sporadic appearances here and there, East End Dubz has pretty much been loyal to his own imprint, through which he has solidified a house sound of his own. Number 16 in the series offers a predictably classy affair in the form of 2 club trax that are bound to sync with pretty much anything you throw at them. "Space Cadet" is a direct, no bullshit house missile made for keeping the moods and tempos at a steady pace, while "Halfjack" is more on the playful side, shooting out tidy little melodic twists amid its rawer and more off-kilter percussion.
